I know it kinda gave the player clues about when the war was about to start, but now you need to either read the news or deal with it as it pops up. The Civil War even is still a major event so you will know.

I did the same, Italy had actually made it all the way into Paris, then Spain joined the Allies and pushed us back out. This one Is mexico no Texas but it works the same. I want to ship Tank divisions along the Purple line (across the sea) to reinforce the landing in Eastern Mexico but the Tank divisions default to moving across land which would end up with them attacking the American Front line. Italy is a tutorial nation so I think its pretty easy but for some reason people like to shy away from major powers. I like Spain because it gives you a nice early conflict and you can chose what you want to do, join Axis or Comintern.

For most of the war I had horrible manpower problems so I kept a small but efficient army (made france capitulate, naval invasion of UK Japan, Mexico, Brazil, creating huge russian encirclements, etc) while forcing my allies (italy for most the game) to plug the front line so I can do special ops
Also the brits intercepted my convoys as I was invading the UK so I lost 50% of my arrmy and never bothered to rebuild it
I instead focused on Air which is OP

I know, I was planning to send my Marines to do the same once I'd stabilized the front and stopped a whole bunch of dudes from getting cut off in northern Manchuria but almost as soon as I'd tabbed back in the entire Italian army showed up

Fighting in Africa is easy mode. Any idiot who goes in the low infra provinces with a division that is heavier than Italies 2x3s gets fucking raped by attrition and supply shortage. Easy win. Africa is literally one of the few times where you can meme arrow without even bothering to look at it.
