I only played first 7th Dragon and it had nice party building combinations, with smell of EO to be honest (Knight dedicated to protect, Medic with powerful single and party heals and staff attack skills, buffer and supporter with HP/MP regen buffs Princess, before EO III came out and such).
Only hunting all the Dragons could be boring at some point, but until then, it was fun.

7th Dragon has the Bloom and high encounter rate which is annoying, although there's a "USA patch" that changes that to be more bearable. Haven't played much of it, the game was too laggy for me on an emulator.
2020 is easy in difficulty; Besides the first boss and one or two bosses afterwards, I never found myself getting into trouble. Although I liked the post game for being hard.
