Yea the color options are nice. I watched some gameplay on youtube and I'm happy to see that there's camo pattern options, something that I feel is often bizarrely absent in the various Gundam shows.

Not surprised it takes a long time to build up a parts selection. There's something like 150 MS units available. That's a fuckton of bits to collect. At least they brought Wing/Endless Waltz in though.

The routes of FA happened in a combined fashion. Strayed fought on WGs side, then joined ORCA. He was about to take the last Arteria, where he was betrayed by Otzdarva/Thermidor and driven off, yet escaped with his life. He then takes up Oldking on his offer and destroys Cradle 03, resulting in him fighting at Carpals and committing Genocide, destroying all Arteria facilities, clearing the Assault Cells, and then killing himself after sending a message to Fiona Jarnefeldt and the remnants of Line Ark that all major LYNX have met their demise. Not entirely sure what your problem is here. There's a few maps where a ton of sand is flying around I guess, but you can generally see most stuff pretty decent. Then again my TV is pretty large. I'd suggest upping brightness. I also don't see your problem with the HUD. It's just a circle. If you dislike it you can turn it off in options. Or do you mean scan mode? In that case I also don't see your problem. The only convoluted thing is the stats that show up when you scan a thing, and those aren't that important for story mostly. Just look at defense values. In general you can easily tell what kind of defenses an AC has after a while based purely on looks anyway.

Aside from Turn A because it's just so overpowered, NEXTs are larger and faster than every Gundam (not including mobile weapons). This is also taking into account that the scale changed between 4 and FA, so NEXTs in FA are huge compared to those in 4. I support that last claim with how large they seem when standing on top of Cradles, aerial cities that hold billions of people each.

Most mobile suits have like 1 G of acceleration max and can be destroyed by a few beam rifle shots. The average NEXT, on the other hand, is capable of accelerating at rates that should be physically impossible and can tabk quite a few plasma rifle shots, and that's ignoring PA.

PA is probably one of the OPest thing mecha have ever seen withouth falling in "game breaker" territory. I a force field that manage to reduce the damage of basically everthing and contaminate the battlefield strong enough that if you or your mecha/vehicle arent equipped to resist the contamination you will probably end dying anyways if you survive a fight against a NEXT.

I don't think it's directly stated often, mostly just implied. It's why AC4 has missions where you're not allowed to use PA, since the contamination would be lethal to whatever you're trying to protect/capture.

I think the Amazigh mission briefing also mentions something about how he prefers to fight solo so he doesn't risk contaminating his allies.

None of this really gets brought up in ACFA though since at that point nobody cares about Kojima contamination due to the elite living in the cradles. DEEPEST LORE

Essential VD info:

When you're not shooting at something, always go into scan mode. You use less energy while in scan mode and also recover it faster, so you can maximize your energy output by constantly switching back and forth as needed.

Also, scan mode is just generally helpful. Throw down recon units constantly (you'll literally never run out of them, the game lets you carry way too many) and stay aware of enemy positions. Also scan bosses, ACs, and any other enemy you're having trouble with so you know what weapons to use against them.

Try to carry at least two damage types for your general story mode AC builds. When you run into something that's resistant to your main weapon, you can just switch out to your backup and take it down easily with a secondary damage type.

Rifles and Battle Rifles are my go to weapons most of the time, I'd recommend trying them out. They're pretty straightforward and work for just about every situation. Shields are okay but are better for special builds instead of general use. Shotguns are alright but they're not so good for a primary weapon, I'd suggest getting a more general purpose weapon like the rifles to use with it.

Thanks mate. I've got a pulse machinegun on the shoulder pod, which is actually more effective than the shotgun. I've only just started playing so the choice of weapons is pretty small.

Ace pilot detected. It's proven fact that an AC with a good emblem and a good paint job will always beat an AC with stock emblems and shitty paint.

Speaking of paint, I discovered a neat trick. If you want an extremely bright AC, make a decal that's just a single big square of your color of choice. Then apply that decal on top of each AC part entirely. Basically, the game has a limited brightness on the base AC paint colors, but that limit doesn't come into play on emblems and decals. So once you manually apply this extra layer of paint via decals, you can get ridiculously bright ACs.

That might be common knowledge though, idk. Anyone else got cool customization tips while we're on the subject?

You should really join the /acg/ team, we need more warm bodies.

Some more things you may not know:

Defense s work in terms of Thesholds in ACVD. If your defense is higher than the damage of the weapon you're getting shot at with, even by one point, you will resist the damage and take a lot less. This means that for an online sortie AC, there's usually specific weapons you want to cover, such as the three-shot Battle Rifle (2036CE), All Rifles (1823KE), or all HEAT machine guns (1111CE). On a lightweight AC you will have to live with only getting around 1000 max and will have to compensate with speed and not being locked on to. This is way easier against actual players rather than an AI since those track you perfectly.
Every leg type has a specific defense it excels in, and in general you'll want to use the rest of the parts to cover your ass from the other two types.
KE defense: Lightweight and Medium Biped, Lightweight Revjoint
CE defense: Quad, Heavy Revjoint
TE defense: Heavy Biped, Tank
It's perfectly fine to stack defenses for missions if you know your weakness won't really come up in the mission, and if you really want to, you can always cover that weakness with shields. This is why Quads often carry TE shields in their hanger.

This same principle applies to enemies, which is why it's important to use scan mode. Ineffective damage isn't the end of the world, but if you go and attack that 3500+ TE def tank with a pulse gun in close combat or waste one of your precious 4 KARASAWA shots on it, you should reevaluate your life choices.

Tanks can use ready-position weapons freely (I.e. dual wield them) and their kick will reliably one shot most other ACs if you can hit it.

Seriously, thanks for the tips mate. I don't have xbox live at the moment because I live in the Australian countryside, so online multiplayer is kind of out of the question. Looking to move to Sydney by the end of the year though, so if you're still playing then I'd definitely be down for some multi.

On the subject of scanning, I need to get a better understanding of how the graphs in the game work, because I just get bombarded with info while the game is still going and can't really take the time to see what the stats of the target being scanned are.

Also I'm loving how fucking fast you can go in this. Much quicker than the other ACs I've played.

The only thing you need to pay attention to are the enemy's defense values. Don't worry about all the charts and stuff that pop up with it. Just go into a mission and scan an immobile enemy that's out of range and study the readout, then learn where the important info is. You can ignore 90% of the stuff once you know what's actually relevant.

Really the graphs to the right aren't that important. They show whether your weapons are effective against the enemies defense. All you need to pay attention to are the defense values. Go into test mode and study the readout on the tank or the sniper mechs on layout 2. The other thing that can be helpful are the numbers to the left and below the thing you're scanning, they show the damage type and attack power of the unit's weaponry. But really this is largely unimportant for anything but multiplayer, and even there you can see the weapons people are bringing in the intro cutscene.

And yeah, sorry, but we're all on PS3. I just kinda assumed that's where you were too. Maybe you can get one for cheap? If I had the money I'd buy you one myself but I'm a piss poor uni student who has no idea how to pay next months rent.

And some more infodump because I'm on my way to class and bored:
The three weapon types have different damage falloff. KE (Kinetic) weapons fall off linearly, which is pretty self-explanatory. It's a bullet, it does damage by going fast, air and gravity makes it go slower over time.
CE (Chemical) weapons do damage by exploding. This means that they do not have any damage falloff, as the payload of the projectile is always the same. That doesn't mean they have infinite range, and Battle Rifles have a way slower muzzle velocity than regular rifles due to the projectile being heavier, but if somebody manages to snipe you with a BR across the map, it will hurt just as hard as getting shot point blank.
Finally, there's TE (Thermal) weaponry. They do damage by being concentrated balls or beams of hotness, probably a superheated plasma or gaseous substance. They have barely any falloff as long as you're in their effective range, but as soon as you exit that range, the energy dissipates and the projectile vanishes. You may have noticed that your PMG projectiles explode into blue fireworks at a certain range. That's what happens with laser rifles too, except way further out.
Oh, and Laser Rifles are chargeable and will constantly drain EN while you hold the shot.

So much for that. Now some movement stuff.
If you hold the Quick Boost button for a second before fully pressing it in, you'll do a second stage Boost, which goes further. Hold it too long and you'll just kick.
If you have forward momentum while skidding along the ground and turn off your boosters, you can drift turn. This is a quick way to turn around and an integral part of getting out of a flanking situation. Tanks cannot drift turn, but they get a turning speed boost while stationary. Ranks also cannot walljump, but they can jump while above water, which everyone else can't do.

I'd also suggest changing the control setup, default one is pretty bad.

So, control setup. The default one sucks. Do what you're comfortable with, but you need to be able to hit all movement and weapon inputs without moving your hands away from the sticks. here's what I use (PS3 button names):

L1: left weapon
R1: right weapon
L2: jump/boost drive
R2: quick boost/boost charge

X: Booster on/off
O: Recon Unit
Square: Weapon Switch
Triangle: Glide Boost

R3: Scan Mode
L3: Shoulder Weapon

You could put Glide Boost on L3, but then using missiles becomes a huge pain.

Every leg type has a different falling speed while boosters are engaged. Here's them sorted by falling speed, starting with fastest:
Tanks
Heavy Bipeds
Heavy Revjoints
Medium Bipeds
Light Bipeds
Light Revjoints
Tetrapods

Quads are the slowest on descent by far.This means that while a Reverse Joint can easily gain altitude just by using it's super-high jump, a Quad can jump off a building and float ouward, staying above the enemy team for days. This, combined with their high defense when not built for mobility, makes them popular as "flying fortresses". This is one of the most boring meta builds there are though.
