Knife fighting in an arena of fallout is the funnest way to wave 1, and leaves enough ammo that you may as well keep it for wave 2.

Now that rounds are 9 dosh, though, buying any ammo to keep it going wave 3+ is way less appealing, though.

Well, it has only slightly more damage than the 9mm (which is only really useful when bodyshotting instead of aiming properly, or against Bloats) and in return it has some large downsides compared to the 9mm:

I mean since GS gets a damage bonus with the 9mm as well it's not a downright BAD weapon since it's usable, and you can always use the 9mm if you prefer it, but at best it's an extra ammo pool that isn't very satisfying to use, at worst it's just a downgrade from a weapon every perk has.

Better in only damage. Inefficient damage, at a cost.

9mm/medsmg are interesting for having especially low base damage, 15, too little to decap trash without benefits.
AR15/Medpistol/RegularShotguns/SA80 are interesting for their 20/25 base damage per projectile, optimal to decap trash, without overkill. With benefits, 1shot crawlers without overkill.
AK12 is interesting at 35 base damage, you can get perk benefits letting it 2shot clots/cysts/slashers extremely efficiently, making trash body shots in general satisfying.
SCAR/1911's 50 base damage 2shots clots/cysts/slashers with flawless efficiency without benefits, and with benefits, they'll 1shot bloat heads and 3shot husk/siren heads very efficiently. In the upcoming commando rework, SCAR with benefits will 1shot stalkers, too.

But 1858s are at 30 base damage. The other attributes of the gun had to be compromised in order to deliver this extra damage beyond the 18 it takes to make a projectile 1shot trash heads. The compromising of those other attributes, making them an average bore, made 1858s unsatisfying for trash heads. AR15 leaves 1858s in the dust at shooting trash heads and crawlers, 1shotting with way better capacity and reloads.
And yet this extra damage was not enough to make the 1858s satisfying for generally shooting trash bodies. A cyst without headshots takes half a gun's load!

This is just my opinion, but I think the 1858s are at least better than the AR-15 because the iron sights on the AR-15 are just that fucking garbage.

AR15 is better on this account, for me.
Misses are less costly with the ar15 due to mag capacity and ammo costs.
But misses actually do have some value.
Tracers.
Watch that bullet fly, and be reminded of where the exact center of the screen is. Adjust for future shots. They call this "walking" your fire.

The 1858s inspire no confidence in me, any misses against sprinting enemies feel like a problem, a problem that will probably escalate into a bad reload or getting hit. So I panic, so it does escalate, so I'm distracted, and I forget the reminder of where the center of the screen is.
The AR15, on the other hand, puts me at ease with a forgiving future; it'll either still be loaded with this big mag even after a few more mistakes, or I can slap another in pretty quick.
So if I miss, no biggie, I walk it in without worry, and I'm usually back in the groove before there's any problem.

Because TWs thought process is backwards
A good method I think would be is you get them like every 4 days, but how good you do determines the chance of a nice little drop. Makes you want to earn that chance through your skills than relying on buying a key.
Think of it like this:
>practically carry the team and get more than 2 places on the scoreboard tier: decent chance but not guaranteed you can get a mint skin or a pretty valuable cosmetc like motorcycle helmet, can still get something worthwhile
>do well but gain a second or third status: still get a worthwhile prize, something like eyepatches, field tested toys, etc.
>just sort of there: low tier battle scarred, basic headbands like we have now, cheap stuff
>last place: fuck you, you get a usb/crate now go buy to benefit from your 'reward'
Of course it could use tweaking and other factors are applied like playing solo, if you're medic and only top in healing, firebugs likely to get the goods, etc. but I think it'd just actually reward you better for how well you contributed to the squad and shit.

Black Forest's openness really helps with escape routes. I'm not familiar with any routes and I relied mostly on "Okay enemies aren't coming from that way, FUCKING GO." I got corner fucked by fleshpounders twice and I thought it was over.

I was a level 24 gunslinger. It's the only class I've been playing since I started since all my friends play all the other ones.

Gunslinger is really fun to solo HoE with Rack'em Up. Bad spawn can fuck you up fast but still pretty easy when played safe.

If you want easy baby mode, go medic or zerker. But gunslinger is still easy (just not baby) mode. Black Forest is bad for Gunslinger because of all the elevation (I hope I used a right word), you want to have a flat floor for easy headshots, if you want open space Farm will be better than Black Forest.

Pretty standard advice will be to try to keep the horde behind you, avoid death spots (places when you can get easily blocked and fucked), look where you're running 80% of time, turn around to take out annoying zeds and have target priority, kill sirens and husks as soon as you can.

You can heal yourself for 50hp, it's easier to solo HoE than to do it with shitty team.

If you honestly think we missed out on the original Zerk, you're crazy.
Zerk is in a good spot right now and changing him won't fix the AI targeting problem for zerkwalls.
Demo and Support are the only perks that really NEED re-works just because of how lame and one-sided their skills are that they're basically mandatory and should be passives.
Yet TWI are doing Demo, Commando, and Berserker.
Not that I don't like change but they're re-working them like they've never played above Hard.

Honestly, if it had released after Early Access it wouldn't have been half of the scandal it was. Releasing during EA was a mistake. Releasing during EA right in the middle of the Payday scandal was also a mistake.

They could have been so much smarter about it, but no, that was too hard. That required too much thinking. Now KF2 is just "That early access game with MTs LOL".
