Empire on legendary requires that you get lucky, there's little skill involved.

You have to hope that your constant bribing of everyone around you to avoid war doesn't drain your economy to the extent that you can't build up your economy and get better units by turn 60 when chaos sends its 8 stacks.

Legendary is ultimately a waste of time because the morale bonuses the AI gets makes it so you will almost always have better results by simply autoresolving. I got 50 something turns into an Empire legendary campaign, had to savescum a ton but I owned all of Brettonia. Then chaos invasion began and with rank 20 Karl Franz and an army of silver/gold crossbow men and swordsmen was getting decisive victories on every battle I autoresolved.

I ended up quitting that campaign because it was clear legendary difficulty is more akin to Grand strategy than total war.

Bravado aside though how do I deal with Chaos as dwarves? Longbeards, quarrelers, and grudge throwers were what I threw against Orcs over and over and with good success. Calard of Garamont only exists within his own series and a small token mention in the End Times.

He would be better fit in a smaller DLC pack that added heroes from the Black Library like Gotrek & Felix.

Bretonnia doesn't really have any other named heroes. Mallobaude would never lead the Bretonnian army and would sooner see Bretonnia burned to the ground.

The Green Knight can be used in the TT and has been shown in the canon to lead the armies of Bretonnia when times are dire.

I think his inclusion is more plausible than you may think.

Its a mod that adds armored version of state troops, they have slightly better stats still not good enough to go toe to toe with late game chaos units but I like the way they look. Unit sizes are custom.

Regeneration doesn't revive new skellies, it simply adds a tiny tick of health to the current ones, it is only really helpful on large monsters.

Also, throwing Kemmler into melee is a pain because for all the benefits it gives him, the guy can get killed so damn easily. I love Kemmler in the lore, but he is not the Lichemaster he was meant to be in-game. He is simply a Necromancer Lord with a unique character model.

That's really the only effective way to play VC at the moment.

No shooting. Magic is mediocre, you want to rely more on buffs and -leadership spells on their units that are getting shaken. No artillery either.

All you can do is mob them with trash units and slam them with your decent cavalry. Your monster units are support units.

The leadership tree contains army upgrades, the ones for the vampires are pretty meh while the ones for greenskins are all pretty good such as the one that give ALL their units 15% weapon damage in close combat.

Combat depends, mages are generally bad in combat (the exception being vampires) so it's wasted on them but on captains and generals it's great.

How about some sort of heavy halberd unit? Give it armor comparable to the great sword, higher melee defence, but low attack. Should have the anti large bonus that would be expected from halberds.

One of my gripes with the balance of infantry is that at a certain point there seems to be no reason to take any units other than great swords as they are able to outperform any other empire infantry at attack and defence. I'd like to see this changed by making a better defensive option for late game infantry

So ends my second empire campaign with 15 stack marienburg army just running throu my land with karl after him, burning all my shit and collapsing my economy. The game seems to massively underestimate my chances of winning as Vampire Counts constantly. This battle was about 5-10% yellow on the autoresolve bar, but my units are objectively better than theirs, even if you don't account for really simple strategies like sticking the bats and wolves on the archers, or sending a single squad of zombies to chase the 2 pistoliers across the map while they fire between the spread out meatshields like fucking mongs, which is what happened. Is it literally just a glitch or is the game using some weird fucking method of working out these odds?

My first playthrough was with vamps and I could move like an entire screen as long as I was on roads, chase down smaller armies no problem, move deep into enemy territory and conquer their settlement in the same turn. This certainly takes getting used to.

Yeah, my dudes have been dying a bit too much when I've autoresolved, so I haven't really done it much. I'm still pretty early on in this campaign, so hopefully later on I don't have to manually fight every single battle. As Empire in the late game, that would have been a fucking nightmare.

I just tried 1v1 ing the Hellcannon vs the Dwarf Cannons 4 times and the latter actually took out the Hellcannon (itself, not the unit) in 2-4 salvos which is quite good but not always dependable, like the Felbats, because it means you're restricted to having your cannons placed directly behind your line infantry so as not to be outranged.

Oh the game most certainly has issues, from balancing to very small rosters and no unique minor nations like Kislev or Tilea or Estalia. I perfectly accept this right now since they've promised to feature every major faction, so there is plenty of time for them to add it.

My biggest gripe is that they're not going to release any model converting tool these first months, problably to make sure they can cram out as much DLC and unit packs before modders make them useless. It was noticable in XCOM2 when the first DLC arrived. People were pretty disappointed because there were plenty of mdos that added better quality stuff and for free.

Depends on the units you're losing. If they're zombies and skeletons then yeah, you're suppose to lose them. They're disposable cannon fodder. One strategy is to just send waves of zombies against an enemy town and then conquer it so you can use raise dead to get high tier units far before you're suppose to.

Pretty much. Try loading up an army or two with only zombies/skellys and have them get slaughtered and then raise only high tier units in your good armies.

Takes some smart campaign maneuvering but I did this against late game dwarves and it worked. Multiple vargheists, terrorgheist, lines of grave guards and magic made it fun.

It's based on the number of corpses available after a battle. So, the more dead after a battle, the more units you can raise. It's seems a bit finicky in open battles, so I recommend using it in towns.

The odds might be right on this one, I have absolutely nothing to deal with all the archers except for these two Gorebeasts.

Best I can recommend against chaos is to double team them. Still have some cheap infantry to hold a line temporarily but try to 2 v 1 them both 20 stack.

Multiple heavy flying units helped me out a ton as well as crypt horrors.

In a way you should be thankful. Trudging through entire provinces filled with corruption is a pain in the ass. I played as orcs and after a tremendous bloody fight the with dorfs I cross into Wissenland and saw only chaos, vampires and what was left of the empire.

Yeah, the VC in my Empire campaign actually just ended up being my allies because I was too busy fighting off constant waaaghs and Norse assholes. Eventually Bretonnia actually came through and sent like 3 stacks up north to fight them, so I just backstabbed the VC and blitzkrieged all their shit in a few turns, which won me the game. I didn't stick around to clean the mess up.

The only possible explanation I could think of is that the hellcannons are demolishing your infantry. Since you have a lot of flying units, I'd recommend having them as flankers, fly ahead of the infantry line, and hit the enemy artillery from behind, then immediately fly back out. Your lords should have a healing spell or two for the terrorgheists so they stay in the fight. This is just personal preference, but I'd use hexwraiths instead of black knights because they last longer in a straight up fight. For the grave guard, you should use two-handers instead of shields, the artillery is going to hit them hard either way, so might as well just maximize damage. You really only need one black coach, or two if you want to buff your infantry and cavalry separately. Also, VC have very strong heroes, so I'd incorporate a wight king or vampire in there to bolster you units and tank.

They can't recruit diplomats, heavy units like ushabti and bone giants can't board ships, none of their upgrade buildings for weapons or armor actually do anything, and as far as I can tell you are allowed to recruit one Tomb Guard unit from each of your cities every eight turns because they all start able to recruit them but no building mentions them in its description.

Also, you don't get War-Sphinxes.

Empire I always felt had a pretty good idea and concept, but it seemed implemented pretty terribly.

But that might be because despite it having such a huge world, since entire regions are represented by a single city, it feels really small.

Although the naval battles looked cool as fuck. I never did play it much though. I had issues with it having like 5 minute turn cycles for a while, for some reason.

I'm planning on playing Kislev. I got the short campaign victory for Empire, so I got to watch a playback of everything that happened on the map. Basically, Chaos appears turn 50, but Kislev didn't start losing territory until the 60s. So since you have all of Kislev at the beginning, my strategy would be the following

I think the a decent solution is to just make lords and to a lesser degree heroes more resistant to single target spells. Possibly coupled with making repeat castings on the same unit less effective. Proper scaling with unit size is most important though.

Fight against the weak ones, corrupt the strong ones. Seriously, once you get your agent/building strength up, you can win entire regions without having to fight. Just have your agents squat on enemy land. Try not to damage relations any further, but don't be afraid to occasionally sabotage anything that stops corruption. In my latest VC game, I managed to conquer half the Empire without fighting them, and since I attack all their enemies (primarily Chaos and Norsca), they love me for it.

Man I remember when Chaos Dwarfs were discontinued by GW. I had been saving up my money to go to the store and buy a starting army, but I had to go on a trip because there was a death in the family. When I got back I grabbed my money and went to the store only for the employee there to tell me that I couldn't buy Chaos Dwarfs anymore.

Is Dwarfs literally the worst campaign in the game in high difficulties?

>Your army is boring as fuck, literally just hold the line and shoot.
>If you're unlucky and the orcs beat the other surrounding dwarves you are fucked beyond infinity.

My VH Dorf campaign was ridiculously easy
>AI dorfs all BTFO the greenskins

when i try and use it to reinforce holds I'm defending my little stacks get caught by their big stack every fucking time, but when Azhag uses it to keep raiding my settlements my big stack that's been chasing him for 3 turns doesn't catch him every fucking time.

I been doing something similar in my orc campaign where goblin lords don't have any orcs in thier army. I still have other orc only armies however.
