i mean, shit's easy to parry because they throw themselves at you, but who the fuck gave the idea? oroboro? ENB? iron pineapple?
a bit salty, but i think im right.
dark souls 1 felt like a fair game. when you fight a boss for the first few times they rail your ass, but once you have it, YOU GOT IT and you WIN.
dark souls 3 however, they ramped up the Boss attack speed and fucked with the parry timing so that you essentially have to parry their thought of attacking, before they even swing (for some bosses). And if you ever get hit, unless you have a memory leak or dumb fuck AI for being a lucky cunt, you can pretty much delete your estus since they will never give you a chance to heal (its so slow). And since bosses have 10,000 Follow up attacks that they can chaintogether and spin around the boss room with, youre fucked for some bosses. You will heal, then get hit before the game lets you roll again, spend the next minute rolling around waiting for a rest, then heal and hit before you can roll again, Repeat over and over til you have no more estus. just calm these bosses the fuck down. give them a god damn stamina bar so they arent spamming attacking Constantly. its bad enough on xbox that the frame rate is shit, so when they go nut the frame rate go nuts and button inputs get ignored. So yay again for getting fucked by bad boss design.
it simply doesnt feel fair. Each time i go into NG+ its like playing a new game, since each time the bosses pulls out a new bag of tricks and spam from their ass. the longer the fight takes the more i can expect to get fucked by RNG or some technical issue that i cant control. like with Dancer, if i cant bleed her ass to death before she pulls out her second sword, i have to play Guess the hit boxes in slow motion. and wait around for a minute for my stamina bar to start filling up.
often no time to react, just spam roll and spam R1 til the boss is stunned and bleeds. but it doesnt feel tactical, my actions dont feel meaningful, it feels like im waiting for the AI to stop being a cunt so i have a chance to attack without being wombo comboed

I've always played long as fuck weapons (spears, halberds, etc) so I've never had problems with this sort of shit. I mean sellswords are hilariously short range, similar to the drang hammers just much faster with their attack animation.

I'm playing through DS1 for the first time, and just defeated Ornstein and Smough. I'm mostly using the Zweihander currently, using a pure STR build. I'm thinking of getting the Greatsword and buffing one of them to +15, and making the other a +5 Lightning for the cases where you would want an elemental buff.

I remember a big fan wank theory before Dark Souls 3 came out was that the Abyss and Chaos continued to grow indefinitely. In his starting/regular sword form get in hits between combos. Same for the pyromancy/spin2win form but you can punish him while he's casting spells as well.
In his spear and miracles form he's a fucking pain. I honestly just found it easier to avoid him entirely, only punishing him when he went to cast spells or after his really long charge attack.
His sorcery form is when you can really punish him. Run right up close to him and then circle right. Just walking right will stop almost all his spells from hitting you. His only melee attack in this form is flash sword/soul sword/whatever the fuck that spell is called so be ready to roll through that. If he ever casts soul stream stand behind him and beat the shit out of him.
In Gwyn mode, distance is pretty key. Stay far, far away from him and roll through any lightning attacks he throws at you. Keep enough distance so that when he does a big slash that results in a fire wave it won't hit. Eventually you'll bait out a jumping attack, and after dodging that you can hit him pretty hard.
Buy some human resin from Patches. It's not a massive damage increase but I found it to be the best buff for getting in a little extra.

Any of the meta weapons that rely entirely on passive/reactive play will rarely see use outside of tryhard duelists circlejerking twitch channels and private pontiff fightclubs. Simply put, the average poayer wants an easy win, and doesn't have the patience for execution more advanced than "go in swinging and body them with your stronger buttons" or "tap a button repeatedly and trigger an instantkill if they're stupid"
In other words, they're too lazy or uninvolved to bother following the meta beyond scraping off the easiest things to abuse for straightsword, quick wins. Red-hilted halberd is a meta weapon because moderate speed thrusting weapon + perseverance hardcounters half of the weapons in the game, but using it properly basically just involves hovering passively and waiting for people to attack you so you can abuse perseverance and punish them. It's far too drawn-out of a playing style for people that gravitate towards instantkill gimmicks and R1-mashing monsters.
It's probably important to distinguish meta weapons in the sense that every little shitter uses them because it's strong and easy and maybe overpowered (eg. dark sword, estoc, carthus sword, etc.) and weapons that are top-tier in the artificial "competitive" no-healing duel meta, because they're the most overall effective pvp weapons in the right hands and under those limited conditions. The vast majority have no interest in the latter, and for good reason.

I never got the impression that Ludleth actually lived in an Age of Dark. The way he talks makes it sound as if he worked to prevent one, not that he actually lived through one. Plus, how could he have linked the fire if it had gone out entirely? Untended Graves is probably close to an Age of Dark rather than actually one, or it could just be a weird, isolated scrap of the past, the surroundings of which aren't recreated/accessible through whatever weird means you get there by. Even if it was an actual Age of Dark, all the stuff left over from the first game means it can't have been a very long one.
I'm talking an actual, very long, actually pretty disastrous Age of Dark. If the Firekeeper is right and Fire eventually returns, what would hopefully happen is a new era similar to the Age of Fire in its peak, pre-DaS1, and hopefully the people of the future won't repeat past mistakes.

so can a lot of other weapons when you're using that set up. the normal r1's are fast and use the least amount of stamina for any greatsword move set. Hollowslayer GS is a great all around weapon, fast, good range, and thrust attacks for punishing. Since the normal r1s are so fast though I imagine it's tricky for people to know when the hyper armor is, there's also the lag time for the two guard animations after the first and third r1, though the third r1 comes out very fast after the second.

I interpreted what Ludleth was saying as the eyes are literally magical and show a world barren of fire. It's not just that Ludleth's firekeeper lived in the Age of Dark and didn't like it, her magic eyes gave her a vision of the Age of Dark (maybe due to Firekepers having tampered with/fully dark souls?) that was so awful Ludleth linked the fire in order to prevent her terrible vision from coming about, and Firekeepers from that point onwards probably weren't allowed eyes anymore.

Crystal chime is much better at casting miracles than sorceries. The only sorceries you want to use with it are those that aren't extremely dependent on damage, since they're substantially weaker than Court Sorcerer's catalyst.
