I mentioned this here before but Maitetsu is the worst of both worlds when it comes to trains. It's too dry and infodumpy to be an engaging narrative while at the same time there's too much attention given to lolis and boring people (the only interesting thing about them is their accent) for it to be a good way to learn about trains. If you want to learn about trains, read some books or articles on them. If you want lolis, then read maitetsu but be prepared to either skip the trainshit or just be bored all the time.

Vocabulary. Moege have both a lower vocabulary level and density than even science fiction nukige. Outside of sex that is (and there is a significant amount of non-sex text in sci fi nukige). For someone who's read nothing but SOL games, reading a sci-fi porn novel will be legitimately challenging. The reason I said "sci fi nukige" and not "normal sci fi" is because normal sci fi tends to take either a really light approach ("normal life but with sci fi concepts!) or it is like Bradyon Veda and are on a whole nother level. Sci-fi nukige strike a balance of actually having significant sci-fi elements without soaring in difficulty. Sci-fi is pretty uncommon in (modern) VNs by the way.
