You spawn in with a staff and parryhand, they have no way of knowing what weapon you'll use.
Hidden body obscures it enough that you get a surprise attack off since they are probably expecting MGS or something.
With hidden body it's much harder to tell if someone is running at you, or using charge, plus you have to dodge the soulmass which opens you up for a counter-hit with the leo ring.
It's really fun if you get the whole thing right.

Why does DaS3 lore and dialogue leave gaping plot holes when it's the last game in the series? Without /dsg/ and reddit trying furiously to fill the gaps there would be very little to go on. I mean the story's weirder and darker which is subjectively cool (I personally hate it) but it would take a whole new game to explain most of it.
