A couple IWantISK (gambling) guys got kicked out from SMA for alleged thievery and got assets stolen in return on the way out (in the tune of 100bil). The CEO of IwantISK got involved and tried to secure the return of the assets using close relationships with some SMA directorate members and the fact that he has a shitton of money as leverage. Due to extremely poor diplomatic handling, that fell apart, and he got outright insulted.
His move was then to freeze around 800b in ISK that a SMA directorate member held in shares with IWantISK.
What exactly happened afterwards varies depending on who's recounting events, with SMA spinning a tale of infiltrating IWantISK, syphoning off billions and uncovering a RMT scheme that goes all the way to the top, while IWISK says that a SMA member that helped set up their server gave himself unauthorized access to syphon away funds but the vulnerabilities were found and taken care of, and that there's no RMT (and the member that got hit by a ban wave appear to have turned out to just been caught in one large unrelated RMTer using IWantISK to try and launder, at no fault of their own).
Whatever the case, the fact is that the CEO of IWantISK has trillions and he hired a mercenary broker to see that SMA would be harassed. Permanently.
As it turns out, the mercenary harassment proved successful, and the Imperium's failed bid to take over lowsec was already drawing in a lot of attention by people who could smell blood in the water. Eventually, every single force with a beef against the Imperium started banding together and making their moves. And so now we have The Imperium vs whatever the loose coalition of misfits chooses to call itself at any given point in time.
tl;dr goons became BoB 2.0, and in their hubris overextended themselves and crossed the wrong people, whose rallying cry brought the entirety of nullsec bearing down on them. And now they're dealing with barbarians at the gates.

the point is they are cheap as fuck simple as that, you can undock and lose 50 T1 frigates and you won even go past the cost of a regular T2 svipul.
That is huge, what would be the point of anything else if you buff T1 frigates for no reason or allow them to roam freely without any counter or ship designed to make them stop dead in their tracks.
We already have a problem with cruisers doing that to bigger ships.

Here's the deal with multibox mining:
roughly speaking and all else being equal, you will take the same amount of time spent mining to plex one mining account or thirty mining accounts.
Ballpartk figures on how long that period is: the last time minerbro was posting in eog, i ran some numbers based on what he was doing - i think it was like seven accounts, two of which were in t2 barges, his own boosts and a pos to compress ore - it took him about a week of mining a few hours a day to plex.
The point of using thirty characters instead of just one is that after you've plexed them all (in a week, for minerbro), you will make 30x more profit.
To sum up, getting more characters DOES NOT make it faster to plex by mining (the one exception is if one of them is an orca/rorqual links pilot). Getting more characters DOES make you more money after you've plexed.

So, I played Eve from 2004-2008 and 2011-2012. Toying with the idea of resubbing for a bit. Is small gang 0.0 pvp dead? One of the reasons I quit back in '08 was what I perceived to be a paradigm shift away from groups of 8-10 skilled pilots wiping the floor with larger groups and more towards these gargantuan fleet battles where logistics and numbers were far more important than tactics or any sort of player skill.
Then I came back in 11-12 and found that I would be unable to compete unless I got another account and dual-boxed a Loki/Tengu/etc.
So, has this changed at all? Is my choice to either join a big alliance so I can press F1 and watch a slide-show or triple box in low sec?
