This is true. I think her breaking point was when she considered suicide in the gladiator pit. Then she was more or less resigned and utterly depressed till Joanna Selborn accidentally gave her powers to escape. Staying in a safe location and talking with Vysogota helped her deal with her traumas in some way a trained psychiatrist would help. Yet I think living in constant fear of being caught and escaping from place to place would make her seem more cynical and bitter than she is in the games.

Why do you think they're hiding some big surprise? They've been pretty open about what they're up to, including a new game format this year and the ongoing development of two AAA RPGs that aren't the witcher. The GOTY edition will take some work as well, they might add in some final tweaks with it.

The only good moment in the game is when Yennefer hugs Ciri at Kaer Morhen and she puts down her tough mask and shows how warm and loving she can be as a mother. The embrace though seems a bit one side and something does not seem right here. Apart from that hug Ciri never shows her the respect or love she deserves later on in the game. There is never a proper mother-daughter moment. Instead Ciri spends most of her time with Geralt and the character that replaced Yennefer’s mother figure in the game - who believe it or not - Avallac’h. Ciri looks up to Avallac’h and trusts him of all people (whereas in the books he was shown as being a very untrustworthy character). Instead Ciri seems to show distrust towards Yennefer, even suggesting she has ulterior motives for her! We are talking about the woman who sacrificed everything to save you and stopped at nothing even if it meant whole communities hating her. But Avallac’h is now Ciri’s ‘mother’. In fact when Geralt saves Ciri on the Isle of Mists the first person she asks about is not Yennefer but Avallac’h. This feeling of indifference and distrust towards Yennefer from Ciri is enforced in the game when we get a cut scene on a ship with Yennefer (left out of the family circle once more) smiling with a mixture of love and sadness while looking at Ciri playing and joking with Geralt. Once you finish the game and get the final cut scenes, no matter what ending Ciri gets, you never see Yennefer in the picture. On the contrary in one of them you get Ciri telling Geralt she does not want Yennefer messing around in her life. Very disappointing and even sad at this stage. I guess CD Projekt were not happy with just trying to replace Yennefer as Geralt’s one true love with Triss but they also wanted to replace her as a mother.
