I've got the shape and texturing roughed out for the latest stage for my game. The lower untextured portion will be a bridge, the upper will be a waterfall.

What would be the best way to handle the water fall and water edges? Figure the majority of the water fall could be a scrolling texture and use particles for where it hits the water below.

Make prototype, that's the easiest way. Maybe you'll discover a bug that actually makes it fun, maybe it will be fun with some simple number tweaks, maybe you'll think of something while devving it. If the prototype would take more than 2 weeks to finish the game is too big to begin with.

Reposting updated version of my Unity class
http://pastebin.com/aNSppNa9

It allows you to new up a fake Transform without using a GameObject in the real world and manipulate it using Transform's methods (for things like forward, RotateAround, etc)

It doesn't deal with hierarchy structure like Transforms do, but I didn't need it to for my use cases.
>yeah, it's like 40-45% comments, most of the class is overloaded methods

cool blog update
>>
>>135683840
That's way too fucking dynamic for you to even begin getting a playable state in the next 10 years.
Especially considering your work habit.
Even scoping it down to a pre-made track for a level is going to be an immense amount of work.

Not to mention:
Pitch
cutoff
decay
attack
panning
EQ leveling mechanics
Hz
Resonance
Figuring out how to balance dissonance.
And many more variables.

Find a new game please.
>>

>>
>>135684440
That's not something you can do, atleast right now.
A game like that takes a musician with years of composing experience.

I honestly don't know why I'm trying to help you, you never listen when we tell you the dumb shit you're doing.
>>
>>135680272
i feel like there are plenty of books and courses you can start with

if you are going to a prestigious college it might help you more than a good portfolio, but i feel like the resrouces for self learning out there are far greater than what teachers at school can offer
also mind you that a teacher rolls out everything at a slow pace, while with videos or books you can basically skip to whatever material you are looking for
>>
>>135682867
I actually think I found the issue, I'm just not sure how to resolve it. I don't even know how to properly explain it.
I'm initializing a sprite object, which itself only points to an existing texture like this:
vector.back().sprite.setTexture(vector.back().texture)

However, since std::vector::back() itself returns a reference, I think the issue is that the sprite will point at something different once there's a new element inserted at the end of the vector.

Or something like that, I really don't know anymore.

>>
i don't know what to work on
>>
>>135684675
It won't be your game though considering he'll be doing most of the work.
Oh well.

>>
>>135684430
The basic example is "You want to store the information that a Transform stores, and you want access to Transform's methods, but you don't want to have a real world GameObject because of complexity/performance concerns"

My example is that I'm trying to lerp between 2 "Transform"s position and rotation with a Camera object, but I don't actually have real world Transforms and can't afford to have them. The only Transform I have to work with is the Camera's. That would have been fine, except that I want to manipulate the 'target' transform that I'm lerping to WHILE I'm lerping to it. That would require me to manually calculate how I'd manipulate my target Quaternion and Vector3 because I wouldn't be able to use the Transform object. Creating this allows me to new up a fake Transform and manipulate it, then I can apply it when I need to as well as manipulate the fake Transform during flight.

The problem could be solved with a real world Transform object, but that's what I'm trying to avoid having. Especially since I'm building a large series of components for manipulating Cameras.

People confuse "easier" with "more efficient"

Just because something is faster, doesn't make it 'easier'. C# doesn't waste your time with reinventing wheels so you can focus on actually producing new content rather than focusing on reinventing all 4 wheels for your car.
>>
>>135686958
precisely, so saying that C# is easier to not write shitty code in is also a moot point because it comes down to the programmer not the language.

Yeah, that's a pretty odd bug. My guess is that's also why the chess board in your image also looks wrong. I can fix that pretty quickly I think.

ProfessionalNodev got stuck on mine for ~15 minutes. It was painful to see the one tiny "mistake" that was keeping them from progressing, but also a good sign if they were determined enough to keep trying to 15 mins. Its so crucial to see people play your thing to know where you need to be more accommodating.

What about...

A Diabo-styled RTS. Gameplay revolves around micro strategy instead of macro. You have to fight your way through randomly generated levels with a group of ~20 troops, who will pick up randomly generated loot to buff themselves. Different troops classes have abilities, such as clerics being able to heal or archers being able to shoot elemental arrows that can disable enemies

My debugger is totally fucked. In debug mode, a bunch of things update when they shouldn't, certain enemies have hitboxes that take up practically the entire game world, and the actual bug that I'm trying to fix doesn't occur.

It is but Sourceposter gets flamed because their 'game' is just a HL2 custom map. The days of mods spinning off into popular standalone games are mostly behind us, though. Unity has pretty much cornered the casual development market.

let me explain this.
you CAN make games with source, but the engine itself is so bad for straightforward game development so most of the people who use it usually comes from the modding community.

now you could argue that source modding communities are somewhat dead at this point, but you can still make games from so called "mods", but its unlikely.
the shitpile that is garry's mod is a full game and you can purchase it on steam
