Thing is, it wasn't quite playing the game to get better, it was just the rath species.
No one ever wanted to do barroth, gogul, gigginox, uragaan.
Speaking of grinding rathalos for eternity, all I ever got to show from that was about 6 plates, as a GS tailcut guy.
And there were weapons that required like 5 goddamn plates, some that required 3 of each kind of rath plate.
The newer games feel so much more lenient with drop rates.

I farmed around 130 B.Blos and 140 Diablos and never got ONE hard horn.

Why even use hammer? I imagine it's completely useless in this game since there is no way you can hit their heads, they move too fast, have a too large pool of RNG attacks they can choose from, and of course two monsters in one area.
Even in main MH hammer is trash today because sniping heads became impossible, especially online in multiplayer unless you play like a literal god.

Flat areas, no ledges, make the backgrounds more beautiful and organic if you want atmospheric locations but the fighting ground should be functional, nothing else.
No random shit objects in the area like trees that block YOU but not the monster or their projectiles.
More balancing (weapon classes, weapons in general, content, monsters, reason to fight all monsters).
Better roster. MH4U doesn't have one leviathan and it makes no sense. Lance and hammer need better match-ups, add Lagiacrus, Ivory Lagiacrus, Agnaktor and the four X flagship monsters. Definitely add Nargacuga and Barioth. What were they thinking getting rid of both? Did they believe Tigrex is a replacement? Do they know nothing about their own game? Get rid of some first gen shit monsters like those crabs.
Nerf and buff some weapons, obviously, give hammer's superpound its KO values back or nerf the hell out of CB at least, buff lance, nerf GS etc. Give LS MHX moves.
Finally get rid of some shitty glitches like bad hit detection (if the monster hits you when the attack animation barely even started, it should not cause as much damage as when it hits you while it's already running at full speed, maybe it shouldn't even hit you at all, some monsters can hit you with their legs even though they literally stand still already, see Teostra). Get rid of pinning glitch, either get rid of objects in areas completely or make them at least block proctiles and lasers. No more invisible walls that block you, wider and bigger areas.
Better online mode again, keyboard support, chat support, let us give rooms names again, comfy lobby like in Tri.
There, perfect MH. Doesn't take much at all. For some reason, though, Japanese developers always have to add more, and more, and MORE new shit and gimmicks instead of actually polishing and perfecting what is already there which would help a lot more.

No. Mainline went crazy first with tri. At the release of tri frontier only had normal monsters.
Yesterday there was someone saying Teostra is the only 140 monster he would use hammer for.
Now I try to get good at Teostra all day and so far it looks like it's the last monster I would use hammer for, completely retarded.
He can charge/sprint immediately after almost every single attack. He basically has no safe openings for it's face, it's a gamble.

Daimyo can be literally stun-locked and Arzuros is a push-over, the only difficulty that comes from it's quests are when Savage Jho starts appearing

Give yourself incremental time goals.
First thing I would suggest is looking at the table and finding an empty spot for a weapon/monster matchup that you like, and compete against yourself.
Most G-rank times in 4U are sub-5 or sub-10, and for some elder dragons, double or triple hunts sub-15.
Don't worry too much about spawn location, plenty of the best times in the world were done without perfect spawns, even though they do help.
Set yourself an initial goal of sub-15 or sub-20, then work on trimming your time down in increments of 1min, then 30sec, then 15sec, 10sec etc until you feel you can't consistently do any better.
Having to start by competing with an already great time is bound to be frustrating because you'll probably start off being multiple minutes away from beating them. Go at a pace you are comfortable with.
Finally, if a particular TA is frustrating you, simply take a break and try a different monster for a while for a change of pace. Most monsters have 1 or 2 attacks which do nothing but waste time and getting poor runs where they spam these attacks will wear you down mentally. When this happens just come back to it another time.
Sometimes setting a record will take a few hours, sometimes it'll take a few days, or even upwards of a week, but there's really no rush.
The TA sheet was originally half-intended to serve as a general hunting benchmark for players anyway, so I personally would like to see more of the table filled in rather than having the GS, CB and IG columns filled out and everything else completely empty.
Can confirm, Apex Seregios was disappointingly easy. I only used the "secret weapon" once. There is a strange disparity between caravan and gathering hall quests.

You'll branch out more as you go and find different niches you want to fill with different weapons. My first weapon was hammer and I stuck to it like glue for like 200 hunts, then I started trying other stuff. Now I use mainly lance while taking forays into HH and SA.

Speaking of, Toukiden Kiwami is actually probably the best MH clone for Vita. It's not really a clone, it's like a much faster, much more streamlined hunting game. Usually glass cannon but other builds are more viable. I cannot really remember what's really new in Delta but say some spells can only get buffs when you're a holyfag or a neutralfag for example. Well in conclusion there are a whole lot of builds you can do so the depth is quite up there.

I'm fighting Rajang and circling him clockwise to avoid his fucking prancing charge. He ends up in position with wall against his left shoulder. I have go counter-clockwise and that fucker instantly decides to do a prance.
That's the first example that comes to mind, but a)Ledge and wall are the same for rolling purposes, I guess. b) I can circle in one direction simply from habit, c)Sometimes you're a bit off to one side of the monster and you have to dodge away in that direction, not the other one, but a wall is blocking your way.
Does Brachydios use any elements in his attack? I know he uses blast. Does he use fire? Will going in with the mixed Gore set (-43 fire res) fuck me up?

What are some things from MHX that you'd love to stay within the mainline series?
For me, aside from the little menu accessibility features (like pressing a single button to unequip all decorations from all your slots in the item box), it definitely has to be Blunt Weapon.
Even though Blunt Weapon clearly is still outclassed by pure white sharpness weapons in MHX, it still allows for good weapon diversity by end-game MHX.
