The 3x3 puts more emphasis on zoning and strategic placements, if you get rid of different sides you need to account needing to attack enemies from 4 directions.

Can't really emulate it accurately unless you emulate the underlying hardware it ran on.
On every frame my CHIP-8 emulator runs 1760000/60 cycles (this is too fast i believe) then I trigger a vblank (video flip) and sleep for 16ms. Make sure you keep the timers (dt, st) updated too (decrement them by one every 60 cycles until they reach zero). I poll input on every cycle.

Ignore the last statement. I poll on every cycle. The hardware on which CHIP-8 ran didn't have any "poll", the input was always available (IIRC). So I thought polling all the time was the best way to implement it.

I actually did consider this at some point, but considering there are no graphical tricks for CHIP-8, there will be very noticeable flicker during flips where something that should be drawn there isn't yet drawn there or vice versa, (that is, a flip between CLS and a DRW for example). And you can't just say, draw only when CLS happens, or draw only when DRW happens, because you may not get the desired effect, when you can do neat tricks through XORing the screen.

Modelling is pretty simple really, the hardest bit is learning proper topography for shit like lifelike faces and you probably don't need to know that atm. Texturing is much harder and good rigging is fucking voodoo.

You can learn better coding practices elsewhere, but it's easy to work with. It's what I started with, and I still use it since I work quickly with it, but if you learn other languages (e.g.: I know basic C++ (made breakout + level editor in SDL), web dev (for uni purposes), Haskell (you'll never be the same)) you'll come back to it and absolutely blitz issues you would have ran into otherwise.

Any LÖVE devs here? I want to understand how blend modes work in LÖVE, I'm trying to create an "unmoving plaid" (gif related) kind of style, but am failing miserably.

Anyone has any idea how to do this? Even if you don't know shit about LÖVE, any potential ideas are welcome.

I started on GM about 10 years ago, and I would tell my younger self to start on C and Haskell. If you can master individual paradigms, you can make games easier by not abusing OOP (through C practices) and making your games scalable through design patterns (typically implemented through functional programming, though function pointers are mostly what you need)

You play as one of those guardians. The last pilgrimage failed, so there are creatures throughout the world, and fractured morale and optimism from the people of the planet.

Functional programming is a tool, the same way object-oriented programming is, and the same way procedural programming is. They aren't inherently opposed to one another, they can all work together.
