pic related is what I use.
a little description of everything, from top to bottom:

- additional trainset, kinda endgame, is better than maglevs
- additional trainset, mostly for early games (late 19th up to mid 20th century)
- additional trains for the same trainset
- additional houses and roads, changes to more modern stuff as time goes on
- additional bridges
- self explanatory, good for early games
- additional stations, very basic and simple looking
- enlarges the toolbars if you play on high resoution (fullHD and above)
- additional monorail and maglev trains
- self explanatory, adds a modern looking waypoint
- adds trams and tramtracks
- massive addition of stations and station tiles, very versatile, good if you like to customize your station or you are simply bored by the stock ones. most of the stuff is animated.
- additional road vehicles, specialized in heavy stuff and cargo handling
- additional ships
- massive road vehicle pack, goes from horse carriages to modern stuff, has both passenger and cargo truck/trams
- additional houses for early gmes
- same as Industrial Stations Renewal, but with less stuff
- same as above
- changes how rails, fences and electricity poles look
- self explanatory, changes the stock dock
- additional stations, good for passengers
- additional planes
- Massive industry pack. Adds a lot of new industries and cargo types, changes how the industry production works. This is a must have
- additional train tracks for some added difficulty, starts with small speed limited tracks and unlocks better tracks as time goes on.

also, I'm using a patchpack, which is a new .exe file of the game that someone recompiled to add some mods that can't simply be downloaded as the rest.
there is a lot of stuff in there, so here is the list
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=66892#p1085300
it's mainly a difficulty mod, which means most of the stuff is there to make things harder, but there are a bunch of very good utilities too.

you only really need to use two signals: the regular ones and the path ones, the rest is optional and only barely useful for very complex shit.

It all becomes very easy if you just focus on those two signals and try to understand their basics

in CS is there a way to figure out how much electricity your city currently needs and uses?
I recall in SC4 that it would tell you how much funding something needed and you could adjust the power output of say a coal plant to over or under how much you actually need.

All I see in CS is the budget panel which I can put up or down and have no way of seeing if everyone is getting enough electricity.

now to reply the fellow anon:
> how should I lay out train tracks
I was actually thinking of having the rail underground going up on main street (will also reach further for the more distant villages)

I dislike the separation between surface train and subway, so I'll have them undergrain and build sub-train stations instead...

I'm looking to have the main bus terminal near the university as well, so it should go by there, but for the central station (one connecting to outside), will probably go in the south edge.

The terrain is very slopey, another reason to go underground too, for the other side of the river, its good plan really, but sad I can't merge both the passenger a cargo tracks.

It's comfy as shit, it takes a little bit to understand everything, but that's nothing that a quick run on the stock game can't solve
>>
>>128793054

I always play for a while until my train network gets to the point where I really need 4-wide mainlines and complex junctions then I spend 2 hours trying to design an optimally balanced mainline 4 track 8 way interchange and get too stressed and give up.
>>
>>128794224
Play bigger maps, spread things around, use FIRS so you can build a shitload of different networks before needing to go all 4lane with one, Learn to play with cargodist.

There are a lot of other challenges if you don't like going crazy with junctions and mainlines

Would you recommend watching a tutorial on youtube or something or just diving right into the game?
>>
>>128800973
just dive it man, if not read documentation like any true open-saucer does!
>>
>>128800973
there is an ingame tutorial.
you have to download it from the "check online content" button (which opens the ingame mod downloader) and then typing "tutorial" in the search box.
there is a scenario, a script and an AI to download, all to make a single tutorial scenario that will teach you the basics.

anyway, youtube has plenty of tutorials and the stock game is easy enough for you to play without that many problems if you have a basic understanding of what's happening on screen.

What's that? A roundabout where only the inner lane can join the roundabout?
>>
>>128829261
It a main national road interchange with smaller roads.
The main highway (left to right) goes right through, but has a turning and merging lanes on both sides.
There is a smaller circle in middle that allows one coming from anywhere to make a left or U turn.
This looks pretty good for rural interchanges, but will never happen with such sharp curves...

Just bought CS yesterday and while putzing around I saw some two residential zoned square houses, so now I'm making a cute town of tiny houses and shops.

Anyone know what the smallest footprint industrial zoned buildings will still pop up? And if I ever wanted to build autism efficient are there any reasons to want to build small houses?

That feeling when you start to care to much about your game intersections that you actually read up real road engineering manuals...
>>
>>128830396
I'm actually starting to do this now, reason is I have the realistic population mod (in vanilla game there is too few pop in big buildings)
In practice the big houses have the same capacity as small ones, so building 2x2 squares at time might give better picture of a suburban area...

Just build factory bigs, they can be build smaller, but models are ugly...

Yeah, I was just about to start taking down data and doing some maths just to see about population per square. But first I want to find the smallest footprints which looks to be two squares for regular residential and industrial (which does look silly), and 2x2 for commercial. If this town makes it to high density I'll also check those out.

>>128831383
Thanks! I'll definitely add this to my mods list, which I figure I'll mess with in about a week, I want to play vanilla for now though.

I use windows 10, but i'm sick of it. I'm planing to reinstall windows 7. What do you guys think? what is a good a OS for gaming? I mainly play dota but for some reason i only have about 30 fps, with win7 i had 120 fps. These are my specs pic related

general OS thread i think

how do i get my little dipshits to start using highways? they're all just driving on the congested 2 lane city streets meanwhile a 10 lane highway goes completely unused.

i've got lots of on/off ramps spread out too

I'm sorry to say but windows 7 is a pain to install (as is any windows)
but why don't you try some linux distro? dota and CS both work well here...
maybe try dual boot with steam OS?

How do I justify having a 4x4 tile villa next to a 1x1 shack with the residential zoning

I've never seen such discrepancies in the suburbs, and it's really bugging me. Either I just leave that zone empty, or I have completely everything completely grid so all the zone tiles are always aligned.

Having your industry and commercial/residential sharing a single highway junction is going to give you massive problems in really short order. Consider buying the land tile north of your city and segregating traffic.

Segregate zones, eliminate traffic

The slow way to do it is to zone 1x1 residential in a pattern along the road leaving alternate 1x1 blocks unzoned.

Then you wait for your 1x1 zones to build their 1x1 shacks. Finally, you zone the blank blocks et voila - a full row of 1x1 shacks.

> Segregate zones, eliminate traffic
that's not really how it works no....
as is reality you rather have commerce right next to where your people live, they will have to travel that distance to work and shop for stuff...

Industrial too but you rather have them away from residences due to pollution/noise, every one will have to go to work and go back home, but lots of cargo come and go from industrial, so you rather have them nearby your highways, but small good trucks also go from industrial to your commerce, so its better to have your commerce near your city avenues as well, midway between industry and residence...
>>
>>128881609
by the way zoning 1x1 block is really bad idea, I think they have only level 1 buildings... pretty ugly too...
the way I'm doing now is buildin 2 blocks as front and extend the yard as far as it goes 2x2-3-4
>>
>>128881927
My picture is simplified. I usually mix commercial and residential zones so that there's always a commercial zone at least 1 city block near residential. Industry should be kept away from Comm/Resi traffic flows
>>
>>128882134
though I'm thinking of having closer industry, when level/tech get up enough
I think some policies help with this too, lower noise/pollution

It's... installing the OS.... That's what it's doing... There isn't anything else it can be doing...
Hours? What the fuck are you talking about? If you're talking about raw installation time, then that depends on your PC, not the OS you're trying to install unless the OS is really fucked up.
Have you thought that maybe you're just bad at this? It's the drivers and the availability of programs that makes the difference between the 2 OS's, not the fucking installation process.
>>
>>128897196
Windows 10 will install in under 30 minutes with full updates and all your drivers.
If you have already signed in to a windows 10 computer and use a microsoft account as a login, it also syncs all your contacts, universal applications, settings, backgrounds, themes, etc
If you can't figure out UEFI booting with windows, you're a fucking idiot
Steam OS is an OpenGL client with filters and predesigned settings for popular OpenGL games. It still suffers all the driver performance issues that all other linux distributions have.
You're an idiot.

installing linux (ubuntu or similar) is straight forward:
>check, keyboard, mouse, internet, partition, username, install
I got a recent all-in-one pc for my farther, it came with win8, if you followed the OEM setup windows it self took 2h to start (thats a pre-installed setup...)

then I went I tried windows 7, because, that’s what he liked... couldn't get efi booting to work, simply because almost none of the installation media come with it... got it to boot, mouse and keyboard wouldn't work... because the f*ing usb drivers weren't working.... and thats not 3.0 usb ports no fucken usb driver for fucks sake...

then after the failure with win7 we decided to settle on win10, the fucking update process took 3 hours at least.... as it also did on my gf new laptop... so don't fucking say it is a breeze...
Windows may have some positive points, but its installation process is definitely not one of them...

Did they change the name of the industries on FIRS2?
Because I am still playing on the second to last version of the patchpack which is only compatible with FIRS1 and they are called fishing grounds and harbours and you connect those two to make a profitable fishing route.

>>128900980
One tip: don't go crazy with trainsets, most of them are not really made to work with each other and you get crazy price fluctuations between trains from different sets.

I suppose you are playing with the newer FIRS, which has different names apparently, anyway I have this for fishing.

On fishing grounds you have to actually click a specific tile (the highest one on the north corner) when setting orders, even if the actual "industry" is spread across multiple tiles.
so try clicking around if you can't set orders.

A screenshot might help, if the problem persists

>how do you got a bigger UI, mine was tiny...
there is a mod to get from the ingame downloader called "BigUI"

>does exchange between transport ( A->B->C ) happens automatically, why is there a exchange option?
Can you show me what you are talking about? It might be a feature I never use so you might have to refresh my memory with a screenshot

>what the timetable, got nothing from that...
the timetable is supposed to make your life easier if you want to have scheduled departures/arrivals at stations or to have your vehicles spaced equally on their route, useful for passenger services.
basically, it measures the time it takes for a vehicle to reach its destinations and the time it spends at a station to make some sort of travel plan for all the vehicles with the same orders to follow.
have a read at this, it's kinda complicated to explain here

>exchange between transport ( A->B->C )
I meant like for, passanger wants to get to C, he takes a transport to B then another to C,
I think there is a option of this for cargo, unload button
>>
>>128934538
I think you are looking for the "transfer" order.
with a transfer order any passenger or cargo is unloaded at the station and it stays in that station until something else picks it up, even if there is an accepting industry in range of the station.

anyway, if you play with cargodist enabled for passengers (settings>environment>cargo distribution>distribution mode for passengers. Manual means cargodist is disabled, symmetric/asymmetric is enabled) you might not need the transfer order as every passenger already has a destination set and they won't leave any station until they reach it, so you can get away with unload orders too in this case.

so your typical order list could be:

Vechicle 1
station A: normal order or full load order
station B: transfer order

Vehicle 2
station B: normal order or full load order
station C: unload order

It has the downside of making all your screenshots orange-ish if you forget to turn it off
