Depends on how he's written; he's got a lot of potential. This being Sonic, of course, things get fucked up at almost every turn.
He can be an edgy anti-hero, a "tragic" (insofar as a cartoon hedgehog can be "tragic") hero, a grouch with a hidden heart of gold (or at least bronze), a comically serious thug, a manipulative sorta-kinda villain, you name it. But since nobody can agree on what he's supposed to be, he ends up being all of these or none of them.
Thus, the (stereo)typical way to write him is to throw all of those character traits into a blender set to "liquefy", mix in a measure of alien blood and tears, bake the mix in a casserole dish at a million degrees for a week, freeze it for fifty years, then serve it with a side of steamed bat and deviled Eggman when the fans are hungry for edge.
The trouble is that it isn't just fanfic writers that do this; it's how he's been portrayed in canon since the beginning. So until everyone can make up their damn minds on how to write him, he isn't worth using.

The storybook games are not that good gameplay wise, but great in pretty much every other area, especially story oddly enough. I'd go as far to say that Secret Rings and Black Knight have the strongest stories of any of the games. Oh, and the music is fucking great as always, but especially in Black Knight, with one of the most underrated final boss themes in the franchise

Thinking about this a bit more I just realized that there'd be no Good Hank equivalent in Sonic. I think Ian at the very least implied that roboticized body parts work just like their organic versions when asked how Bunnie had kids in MXYL. Sonic getting a younger sibling that started out partially roboticized and being a constant reminder to their parents of Jules' failure during the great war due to said roboticized parts could have been an interesting dynamic if it was done well.
Although it'd probably be greatly held down by the fact it's in a series about a cartoon hedgehog whom's main ability is traversing at an exceptionally high speed while having a somewhat unruly disposition.

Not obscure, but Elise. I would not be surprised if she showed up at some point. Other than that, maybe a couple of the remaining characters from SaTAM that aren't present and possibly 1 or 2 more AoSTH characters, but I doubt that'll happen. I can't think of any game characters that are usable that haven't been used yet.

Are you sure you didn't get her confused with Fiona? Rouge is pretty responsible, and arguably the most mature member of Team Dark. Plus she could probably pull a few strings and get GUN to help pay for raising the kid, if her paycheck won't already.

Okay, if Mighty and Ray were to be reinvented for the games like the Chaotix, what would be good premises for them?
I see Mighty as a sort of Indiana Jones-type character that, like Sonic, is a roving nomad, but slow and steady as opposed to quick, so he has time to absorb all the details of his surroundings. Therefore he's intimately aware of the lore behind many of the ancient civilizations scattered around Sonic's world.
I can't really see Ray apart from Mighty, but I'm also having trouble seeing a good role for him. I think it's be interesting to have a hero / sidekick relation where the sidekick is young, brash and impatient (basically the reversal of Sonic and Tails), but it's hard to do that without him being annoying or too much like Charmy or Silver. And what special ability would he have? The obvious answer is piloting aircraft, but that would overlap too much with Tails's character.

So um...am I reading the same book as everyone else? What exactly do they think is going to be a big change after this? Why are they acting like having Unleashed as an excuse to world hop is somehow PREVENTING other stories from happening? Last I checked, the Unleashed wasn't about underwater cities, ruin nerds on Angel Island, deer sisters in a bad place, fake heroes in Shamar, walrus dad drama, old men who can't get over their dead daughters, Shadow fighting Black Arms spinoffs, Bunnie being badass, Silver hanging out with an absentminded professor, Blaze and Amy fighting a pirate Metal Sonic, Omega picking on a small gizoid, Breezie running a casino, the Chaotix going to Pumpkin Hill, Tikal doing ANYTHING....

That's not hard to believe, considering the Roboticizer's original application was that of a medical device.
It was designed to heal the sick and allow the elderly to live longer, so it would make sense that roboticized organs retain the same basic functionality of the original...reproduction included.
Though, I doubt Chuck's endgame would've called for complete roboticization of every specimen, unless of course they were terminally ill, on the verge of death. Eggman was just loony.
