is there any way to get fan translations with external .wav audio like the Ys IV fan dub and the Xak III fan dub to work in mednafen-pce in Retroarch?

I used to be able to get them to work on my old pc by mounting the .cue and playing them in magic engine, but I heard daemontools has malware now so I'd rather find a way to play them in retroarch
>>
>>127726750
Modern mednafen no longer supports reading CDs from a disk drive, libretro or not.
>>
>>127726957
is there any way to do it then? like do I have to recreate the iso image to make the external audio internal or something?

I remember a long time ago someone here said they were able to get Ys IV working in RA, but I don't remember how they did it
>>
>>127727301

>like do I have to recreate the iso image to make the external audio internal or something?

That would probably work
>>
>>127727505
I do that, and it crashes.

Normal PCE-CD games without external audio work just fine, it's just these two fandub translations that I can't get to run

I don't even particularly like the fandubs, it's just there's no subtitles during the cutscenes in these games so that makes them necessary
>>
>>127727541
how do I do that though
>>
>>127727848
Mount it with something (WinCDemu for example) and then use a disc ripper

>>127749515
VU cycle stealing and EE cyclerate are pretend fullspeed, they affect internal FPS a lot while increasing the VFPS, technically with EE cyclerate yoiu're emulating a console that has an underclocked EE and with VU cycle stealing it's about the same thing except this time the power you're not using to emulate a fullspeed EE goes to the VU emulation.

EE cyclerate now has overclcking though using that slider and then you're obviously negating part of the internal slowdown if you turn it on, some game do break pretty spectacularly when you do that though. some also become insanely resource intensive (Warship gunner goes from 80-100 to 30 in intensive battles)

Nigga nothing is balanced, AGS and energy weapons being the worst example of that, or even smaller examples like HE VLS vs cruise missiles.

A supercarrier with a full complement of duck planes might actually not totally suck shit if you invest in a couple laser pointer to make them attack things you want them to attack.

Meanwhile you can just make a huge battleship that wreck absolutely everything

My complain is mostly on how instead of having a maximum of 20 planes on the air at the same time that score fucktons of damage if their bombs/missiles hit there are hundreds on planes in the air at the same time that give pitiful amount of damage. That makes the game perform like shit, with the addition of making carries completely unviable unless
1. you're playing a fresh new game on very easy mode, but even then you'll have a hard time
or
2. as you said you unlocked the duckplanes, in that case why even bother with carriers?

>AGS and energy weapons being the worst example of that, or even smaller examples like HE VLS vs cruise missiles.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but by the time you have access to those the enemies you'll face will have absurd amount of resistance to the energy weapons' damage (unless you grinded a fuckton of "training" missions), to the point that you're better off with sticking to traditional guns and torpedoes (which are always OP as shit in WS2's case anyway), since that saves space and mass that is better invested in thick armor in addition to the gravity/em shield.
>>
>>127756263
AGS are literally absurd, a 3 barrel one is vastly more powerful than a 406mm rotating cannon that takes 4 times the weight and way more space aka there's literally no reason to no just stick 3 times the AGS.

Energy weapons are never useful, too big, too heavy, and almost everything has EM shield by the time you unlock them, you also can't fire them in tandem which also makes railguns almost useless.

HE VLS (cruise missiles are too big and heavy to be worth it) are literally the only thing you need on most missions except when you face battleship that can take more than 3, and don't get me started on the fucking travesty that is the drill missile (it sounds awesome right? it fucking ain't)
>>
>>127756887
Are you talking about WS2 or WS1? Because in WS2 the Gatling cannons aren't nearly as deadly as they were in WS1. On the other hand the 80cm long barreled gun with all of the accuracy and ROF upgrades makes short work of everything that isn't a speedboat or a small destroyer.

Also what modules do you use with the AGS, if you use any at all?

>Energy weapons are never useful, too big, too heavy, and almost everything has EM shield by the time you unlock them, you also can't fire them in tandem which also makes railguns almost useless.
That's what I said. At least the cat laser looks comfy.
Also why is the point defense AA laser so fucking bad? Even the low calibre machineguns are better than it.

I stick with cluser VLS, and that's only if I need to destroy buildings, if not I usually swap them for more SAM VLSes.

>Are you talking about WS2 or WS1?
WS2, 1 has that other problem where the twin 88 rapes the shit out of everything and the bigger ones are a downgrade most of the time.

>Also what modules do you use with the AGS, if you use any at all?
The autoloader, the accuracy one has no effect as the shells home in on target (badly but still the firing delay system doesn't change that), I gotta admit that I don't know what most modules are supposed to do unless it's incredibly obvious.

>I stick with cluser VLS
You're missing out, on top of that HE VLS are way better at dealing with building too (and then you put the AEGIS on and everything is fire), napalm missiles might actually be very good too but I haven't unlocked the research yet.

>if not I usually swap them for more SAM VLSes.
Just put 10 RAM on your thing and watch the planes drop like flies (and your framerate with them), more place for vs land/sea weaponry too since they take the same space as CIWS.

My sub is pretty rough, although I never had any trouble clearing anything with it, the loop 1 design was pretty similar minus the ASROC/HE/AGS and smaller torpedos and of course no plating because it's useless when you're a sub most of the time.

No AA since none of the missions where you're forced into a sub has any real Air opposition and even if they did you just stay underwater and shit all over airfields and carriers.

Hmm not sure about those changes, there's too much machineguns yes but that's mostly my old habit of showing some everywhere I can once I got my main equipment in, AGS are that exact number because It's the critical mass that let me handle battleships easily and fast at close range while leaving me enough ammo to deal with long missions with no ammo crate (no AA means no crate farming), missile rotation doesn't really do anything they fire 360 anyways. and since they're cruise missiles I don't really care about them taking a bit longer to turn around if I fire them backwards.

Although with some of those I can get even more missiles on my sub.

Oh ok, I never actually do that because I don't feel the need to especially with sub

>Also the AGS should work as AA too.
Nope, does wreck aerial super weapon very easily though but you have to aim manually for that.

>What should I do?
If I got it right armor just reduce the damage of the caliber it's supposed to protect you again by 75%, nothing in the game actually uses anything bigger than 36cm in large quantity so you can get away with just that and loop 2 is full of energy weapon so EM shields trump any kind of armor.

Might just be me but I put all the engine and structures in the back while I put my main weapons in the front, there's too much CIWS (more than 20 is useless most of the time it just burns your ammo faster without any real benefits, might want to cut back on RAM a bit too they're heavy and 10 is enough to fuck any air force in the game (and any more than that is diminishing returns since 10 can get jets before they get to you most of the time) and with 4 ammo depots you have enough ammo to withstand most air forces in the game without relying on crate that much or at all

Always think your BB designs to fit 8-10 of your most powerful reactor (powerful|=efficient, go wtih slightly less powerful but more efficient models only if you're cutting it close weight wise).

If you're not treasure hunting the heliport isn't that useful, rescue ones get killed too fast, anti sub ones are heavier and worse in every way to ASROC and even antisub missiles are still a better choice, attack ones are a bad joke.

You need more main cannons, with that ship even the laser platform will wreck your shit by lack of ammo and DPS.

Use the droplist from there http://www.kurogane.biz/wsg2/ if you're looking for something in particular for your research purposes..

Wait, energy weapons ignore armor and they apply their damage straight to your hull integrity, and the only way to mitigate that is the EM shield?

Also, I usually go with efficient engines since the weight from the more powerful but inefficient ones offsets the gains by a wide margin, usually giving me only something like an additional knot. I thing it's better to be next to the weight limit with as much armor and weapons as possible as I'm always playing on hard.

I guess you're right, I'll cut down on the RAM/CIWS and replace some of them with something else.

And I do know about that site, in fact I use that as a source of info for treasure hunting over gamefags, as I found that to be a tad inaccurate for some.

By the way, I beat the mission that was giving me trouble with doing just a modification - changing the flag to the R&R one, it's a fucking godsend.

Read their descriptions. R&R one speeds up repair times and IIRC also mitigates damage you receive when repairing. Championship pennant cuts in half the silver swan grind bullshit. Aegis one lets you lock one or two more targets. Fishing talisman gives you 120% of the dosh you gain during missions, IIRC including crates.

Nah, I just used the search function to make my own.

It's not that hard once you figure it tracks the number of kills inside a single mission then adds to your total kill number and it uses a 2bit value to do so.

Here's the table if you really want, it's messy as fuck and uses address and not script/pointer (I'm too stupid to figure that shit out) but it should work with emulation (addresses don't seem to change at all when I restart PCSX2), I don't remember which address does what though.

Use OpenGL as renderer.
Don't use speedhacks unless you're below 100% speed. If you're under that speed, use only mVU and Wait Loop detection for speedhacks.

The way it usually goes for emulators:

Software - Most accurate but slowest because it's all done on the CPU. No advanced graphics settings
OpenGL - Second most accurate, heaps faster because now some shit is done on the GPU
Direct X - Not accurate at all, super fast, Windows only.

Just look at the laughable spacebar and ctrl/alt put in between the sticks for some reason. What a clusterfuck.

Just buy a smartphone and a controller to go with it, it'll be more useful and probably better built.

As it turns out, if you use per-core config files and then change a directory setting, you have to change that setting for each individual core config file.
>>
>>127799012
That's why you use per-game or per-core overrides instead of that per-core config option.

Overrides only contain what you want different from the base config.
>>
>>127793096
Why do people bother with GB accuracy tests when gambatte is accurate enough and there are peripherals still to be emulated like the IR port, camera, TAMA5 mapper, and the mobile adapter? I feel like those features are the real final boss of emulation, even byuu never bothered with SNES ones. For all that talk about preservation devs sure are selective. Oh wait, I get it, most end users aren't even aware of existence of these devices so as long as their lord and savior pretends they don't exist and claim the emulator is 100% cycle accurate they can suck him off because they don't know it's actually incomplete.

You know what the emulation scene is to me? Or at least the 4chan emulation scene?

It's Kyle's Cousin Kyle from South Park.

Turns up outta nowhere, at first we figure sure, okay, it's another place to discuss emulation related things, won't be that big of an inconvenience. Then the complaints start. "Oh we don't emulate on modern sysssstems because they don't output at 240p. Pack them away, we need Wii consoles." "Oh we can't use regular screens because there's input lehhhhhg. Can you hook up some heavy CRTs for us?" "Oh that developer is a Jew, so we just shitpost about him and everything he does. Why don't we talk about Squarepusher and RetroArch?" "Oh we can't eat anything with beef in it, it gives us bag gehhhhs. Do you mind if we have fish?" All these little niggling things that compound into major headaches, and it gets to the point where you can't help but feel resentment for it, and you'd rather not see it come back. Then comes the guilt trip. "Oh why do they hate us? They never gave us a chance, they're all a bunch of fucking bigots."

I was using a rust library on top of OpenGL called "glium" which is much nicer to use than raw GL calls.

This library kept an internal cache of the OpenGL state and made the (reasonable) assumption that it had complete control over the context.

Now with libretro the GL context is shared with the frontend so you have to make sure to play nice and not shoot at each-other's feet so I needed tighter, lower level control over the GL state.

At first I considered forking glium to add what I needed but it's pretty huge and I only used a tiny subset of it so I just rewrote what I needed from scratch instead.

It's tedious but at least I can try to micro-optimize for my use case.
>>
Apparently beetle (Mednafen libretro) wants to find a BIOS in the same directory as the game. That would have been nice to tell me, rather than aborting with no info.

>>

what how? does it work on 2ds?
>>
>>127866949

A new downgrader was just released for all 3ds up to the latest 10.3 firmware that lets you downgrade your 3ds to 9.2. 9.2 allows you to have kernal access, which then allows you to install CFW and pirated games.

In-depth guides describing how to do it is in the OP of homebrew general, >>127855750
Just a little warning though, make sure you have a few hours to set aside before attempting it (it tooks me over 5 hours to finish everything.)

Also I would recommend attempting this before the weekend is over because Nintendo will probably release 10.4 on Mon or Tues. If you get a softbrick during your downgrade attempt you have to go into the 3ds recovery mode where you're forced to update to the latest firmware. If you're forced to update when 10.4 is released you will lose your only chance to downgrade because the exploit will be patched!

Do it before the weekend is over so you can softbrick as much as you want worry free.

Not really, they are packed with things like kkrunchy or BEP, since they are tuned for compression ratio (which is why they are made coincidently for demos, but abused by malware devs. Which is why I got caught in the crossfire since I used BEP to compress some of my 64kb intros).

From now on my stuff will be packed with my own packer, which I have given the depacking algorithm to some AV devs, so depacking it won't be a problem.

Well, it's stuff like Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania.

I found games like PTO II and Aerobiz way too easy, I guess the only SNES game I really enjoyed playing so far is UN Squadron.

Ninja Gaiden is hard as balls, I find Castlevania fine though (once you get used to the control scheme at least).

What about Zelda, Metroid or Mario? And all their SNES sequels. Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger are some of my favourite games of all time. I think they still hold up well to this day.

Start playing Donkey Kong Country so you too can become a real man

I'm impressed someone could be crazy enough about boats and naval military history to even want to play a game like that in the first place

I don't think it's THAT rare of an occurrence, really. I mostly play WS2 for shit and giggles, for serious naval shit there's modded Silent Hunter 3 and even that can get silly sometimes.

Can't we just vouch for mudlord for google? We know he isn't a bad guy.

It's the only game that I can't run 100% yet it's the one game I want to play most

I don't think I ever played Zelda and Metroid.

Have any of you guys ever gotten Vib Ribbon working with custom CD images on epsxe? I've followed a couple of tutorials instructing you to use poweriso to make BIN/CUE image out of mp3s, then switch it out from the file menu while in the game's menu, but it always just says "insert own CD" again. I've tried using both Japanese and PAL versions of the game and also tried mounting the CD and choosing CD ROM from the file menu (as opposed to choosing the BIN file; the cue file crashes the emulator for some reason), nothing works.
