My point is that Sonic x Amy is the most canon romantic ship in the Sonic series, so it simply cannot be overrated.
Amy was specifically created to be Sonic crush and has been following him through all those games, and Sonic even hinted back in some of them. It won't definitely happen however because sappy romance doesn't fit well in the adventure series, as you said, but it is the 'most canon' romantic ship.
