Honestly, I'm not convinced SA3 is a good way to go, and given that the Adventure games aren't all that well received today I don't know if they'd want to touch them.
Having said that, a Sonic Adventure game with Unleashed-like production values would be... interesting to see (though I'd prefer something else).
Just in case any faggot on here thinks that the "leak" is real I want to clarify something that all employees of game development companies have to sign off on when we sign the employment contract and that is we cannot leak and/or give insight upon a game in development until (at the very least) a launch date is stated.
The guy is lying his ass off. A gaming company like SEGA would enforce this contract until the bitter end and would more likely than not pursue legal action.

If he quit then SEGA has records of when he quit and also what builds he's played/tested. He even specified which build he was playing which would basically be suicide if this was a real leak because all management would need to do is line the dates up and they have their leaker.

I liked Chronicles.Except for the gameplay gimmicks. And the music. And the crappy cliffhanger ending. But seriously, I thought the plot was interesting; Nocturnus were interesting and filled a few holes in the established game canon. The runners leaks were funnier because people got the hopes up for an unleashed game on mobile and then went into a semi damage control mode after it was revealed to be shit.

If they're a gamer or you otherwise think they can tolerate older games, start with the classics. If they want a rounded experience they should then play the Adventure era, though I'd say they could skip Shadow if they don't want to invest a lot of time, as well as 06 unless they like messing with broken games. I'd say play all the main games from Unleashed to Lost World, and if you want to just get someone to where the games are now then skip to Unleashed.
For the full experience they should play all the "major" console games, but that might not always be possible.

The only explanation I can give to why it was so crappy was because the design team didnt' know where to take the game. Seriously, making a Sonic RPG is confusing.

Never mind that, it wasn't terribly good or interesting and he constantly contradicted it. When he started all his Knuckles bullshit, the point was supposed to be Knuckles using what he knew of his people's history to deal with a problem in the present. The history he knew was that Angel Island became a thing, Dimitri went bad and was stopped by fucking bugs, the people overreacted like hell and said "no more tech" and blew up their own fucking city to go back to simpler ways.
Then it just keeps turning into a constant puke-stream of revelations as to how all that wasn't actually true or what happened, because apparently Knuckles was supposed to learn about not repeating past mistakes through a fake version of history or some shit.
The city was never blown up (this lie is never even addressed) and the whole "we gave up our tech" thing remained a driving force even though the people were still shown living in a goddamn high tech society.

Yeah, the first 2 parts were pretty meh on my reread. Honestly the climax (And everything involving Fini) made that arc. I get he was trying to make the DUFF interesting, but it just didn't work. (Honestly none of the offshoot FF groups except the Secret FFs and the Sandblasters were interesting anyways)
As for Julie Su, she's just shit no matter what so I don't hold it against anyone writing her (Except Penders, because he fucking made her)

I think a lot of it was still in clean up mode from Penders' nonsense and all the other half baked stuff. Like trying to establish what was up with the echidnas and dingoes after RTAI changed things up so much and then Penders did his damndest to sweep it under the rug and go back to his old boring directionless status quo. So it was all a bit confusing with a lot of loose ends.

Starting the story from the point where Angel Island is chained to Downunda wouldn't have changed that in the slightest. The first parts are structured as a response to and recreation of multiple older Knuckles stories. It was a neat idea, but it accomplished nothing and just made the arc unfocused and bland.

If you assumed things were moving forward and not that Penders would rise from the ashes of his failed projects to scuttle everything, I can see trying to set up and re-establish characters who were unaccounted for since their last appearances (like the general, since he was supposed to be in RTAI until Penders threw a fit and so they redrew him to be his cyborg son) might have been part of a long term plan.

You know, as much as Finitevus was fun, this really just makes me feel relieved and thankful for what we have now. It's fucking weird to remember that Knuckles was tied to an estranged father and a teleporting ant mentor and evil god-cyborg uncles and a fucking baby half-brother and while dealing with numerous confusing factors and being a literal religious figure who walked on water and came back from the dead.
The Knuckles who beats down Bark and awkwardly interacts with Relic and gets in a stubborn fight with Shadow and accidentally clobbers Amy in a competition feels like something that escaped a crushing weight.

You're misunderstanding.
Accounting for the Dingoes and DUFF is fine and dandy. I'm saying the narrative structure is flawed because the story doesn't start until the third issue and the first two don't do a good job setting the scene (M30YL has the exact same problem). If you begin at a point where the core of the arc is established, you get to make things more cohesive.
A large chunk of 1 and 2 are about Knuckles and Julie and Mighty going to ruins Knux explored in one of Ken's first stories to find Finitevus. There's no good reason besides "lol, references" to bother. The story would have been better off opening with Harry transporting them to Stryker and giving Mighty the spiel, Stryker telling them about Fini scheming in the ruins of Downunda below them, the island being snagged, and Knuckles confronting Fini, who plays fool so they work together. The DUFF don't even figure in until issue 3 anyway.
This way the stage is set with the first issue and Fini is persistent through the whole arc instead of just over half of it. More time can be spent actually getting something meaningful out of Thrash and the DUFF and there's more breathing room in general.

Both Flynn's greatest strength and weakness is his tendency to lay down threads to be explored later. The DUFF are no exception. I agree that Fini needed more involvement and that it drags its feet a little, but the DUFF interacting with Knuckles gives the story the time it needed to build up. Don't forget that the first two issues lay down the current status of the Dingoes and give us some really good scenes with the Chaotix as well.
