Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny FAQ
http://pastebin.com/u8HieaPW (embed)

Marvelous AQL made the Bokujo Monogatari series, localized in the west as Harvest Moon until Bokujo Monogatari: Tsunagaru Shin Tenchi, which will be published by XSeed games as Story of Seasons.

Natsume owns the name Harvest Moon and made Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley, which is unrelated to Bokujou Monogatari.

Forbidden Magna has been released in North America, Europe, and Australia as "Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven".

Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories is scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Return to PoPoLoCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale is scheduled to be released in North America in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Story Of Seasons's EU release will be on the first quarter of 2016

Is there any features I'm going to miss from going from Rune Factory 4 to 3?
>>
>>125942498
RF4 has a better crafting system, plot and you'll probably miss using orders to make the game easier. But you get to transform into a sheep and have a wider selection of waifus so that's a plus.
>>
>tfw you can't tell if this artist is trying to express melancholy at being surrounded by seven wonderful ladies but being unable to have Venti or if they just really, really liked Little King's Story and're trying to do some sort of mash-up in the style of.

>>125942498
Multi-crafting and crafting animation skipping at the very least. Working up those higher smithing/pharmacy levels is gonna' suuuuuuuck.

There's also no postgame, and getting married is pretty much the end of the game so yeah, be resigned to moving on once you hit that point.

>>125943801
Yeah, but many of those waifus are a shit to one degree or another. RF3 has more but you end up getting a lot less.
>>
Did everyone enjoy their break from this thread? I hope so.

I think I can get used to most of that, what makes the waifus not as good?
>>
>>125942498
Having a kid that matters.
Having farming that matters.
Having male characters that have just as much depth as the females.
>>
>>125949929
The waifus in RF3 are really barebones. They hardly get any sort of development and the way the game handles marriage and kids isn't great.
>>
For a moment, I was worried that these threads would be over forever.

Then again, we haven't had much to talk about lately...
>>
>>125950365
It's to be expected with these sorts of games.

Story of Seasons for Eurofriends comes out soon. Maybe that'll give us a small boost.
>>
>>125949953
>>125950147
Well that's a little lame, the character interaction and depth is probably my favorite part of RF4, but I still want to give it a chance regardless.
>>
So I just finished arc 2, what am I supposed to be doing? Leon Karnak is raping my butt.
>>
>>125950550
Is there any news about a new HM or RF game at all?

But yea, at least the EU version of SoS coming out should get some activity here like you said.

Also, go run the first floors of sharance maze picking up random prizes to get better gear.
>>
>>125955202
>sharance maze
That's even worse.
I should probably be upgrading my shit, but its kinda too damn complex.
>>
>>125955370
Make a wand that ignores MDef. It's in the OP.

Failing that, just run through grabbing chests, hoping not to die.
>>
I really liked playing Harvest Moon games way back and I'm looking into maybe getting Story of Seasons. How many of these features are in it?

Good fishing system with lots of different fish akin to Animal Crossing maybe, a good misc. objective aside from just farming like rescuing Harvest sprites, "special" waifus like Keria in HMDS and the Witch Princess, and a cave with a fun spelunking experience.

I like more to do aside from just farming.
>>
>>125956254
Story of Seasons is your standard HM game. There isn't much to do outside of farming, but it does have some really small things you can put some time into like fishing or decorating your farm.

There isn't any misc objective, it's a straightforward albeit grindy game.
Not exactly a secret waifu, but there's a bachelorette you can't start courting until year 3.

All in all it's a good HM game with top tier waifus, but has some real problems in it.

Hey guys. Robot Farm dev again. I hope you guys don't mind me dropping in like this so much.

I added Monster taming the other day. Since Robot Farm doesn't have livestock farming, I was thinking about just making the Monsters a form livestock instead.

What do you guys think?

Also don't mind the sprites in this. They're all placeholder still.

>fishing system

Just tap A to reel fish in

>lots of different fish

yep. even impossible sizes too (400+ cm salmon)

>objective aside from just farming

The main objective will keep you plenty occupied (with the requirements and all). If you're done with it, you upgrade the much-neglected Safari and collect all animals.

>special waifus

You get Licorice from Konohana from ToTT. Then Elise, which is supposed to be hard but more of a timelocked candidate.

>I like more to do aside from just farming.

There's lots to do actually. Aside from what's mentioned above, you can also decorate your farm and the empty lots that Veronica hands to you.

>>125959094

The hoarding issue is still there. I'm on year 3 and I'm still hoarding stuff to build stuff.

There are frame rate issues as well. You get frame drops mainly on your farm, the grain/paddy area, and most recently, Elise's mansion. Some of the fields, like Tall Crop field and Leafy Crop field, get random frame drops while doing stuff.

Also, random crashes here and there. My game crashed once, and I'm monitoring when it will do it again. Digital copies are more prone to crashing as well.

This is a personal opinion, but while Oak Tree Town is a beautiful town, it just feels uninspired. None of that rustic charm you get from, say BtN/FoMT, or that sleepy, quiet Forget-Me-Not Valley from AWL/AnWL,
>>
>>125960672

Short version is that it's an interesting concept that could have been great but is pretty much unfinished both story-wise and mechanically.

Has the unfortunate fate of being expected to show up as RF5. I liked the game for the combat system and the maids were alright but that only goes so far.

>>
>>125992405
As a word of warning, when I say unfinished, I mean you get things like only interacting with at most 9 characters on a regular basis, being confined in an inn for non-combat free time and so on. It also suffers from a somewhat unsatisfying finale so take that with a grain of salt.

The game's main selling point would be it's combat system if that interests you.

How do you get it?

Also, thanks for the tips.
>>
>>126002115
Furniture is sold though the TV. On Saturdays, the shopping network airs and it advertises the item of the week. After seeing it on TV, you can use the phone at the Inn to purchase the item, and you'll get it on Monday. You might also have to upgrade your house before you can get storage, though I could be mistaken.
>>
>>125997706

Ship everything that is shippable.
Foraging is your best friend here. 350G everyday is not something to pass on.
Prioritize upgrade of the watering can.
Get the basket asap.

All you have to do is make a new game with as much dialogue and characters as 4, rehash all the shit from the past ones like RF4 did, including 4's content, and pick one of the features to expand like the shop or the clothes

They've been steadily improving and lengthening the game with every entry so far, and 4 nailed all the key gameplay elements.

I just look at Harvest Moon and get depressed since Marvelous does the exact opposite and puts as little effort into improving things as possible.

it's really little more than a hamfisted edgelord-y overly-elaborate fetish excuse plot straight outta' /d/, but hey, you asked.

The basic premise is that things go terribly wrong after the events of Act II: all the business with the rune spheres and the floating empire (which crashes and creates a gigantic ecological disaster) has sucked most of the energy out of the land, reducing traditional agriculture output to subsistance farming levels. This pushes folks to the unpleasant resort of corrupting the monster-saving enchantment of weapons so people can hunt monsters, sending back the soul while leaving the body behind.

Between the crisis hosing with the gate system and this change in people-monster relations making many monsters much more hostile, this pushes society into a subsistance-farming/hunter-gatherer situation; lots of potential famine, bitter winters with the real threat of outright starvation, and people trying to put up the facade of normality but primed to go at each others' throats (which some already are, as the ceasefire with the Sechs Empire never happens and their degeneration leads to raiders crossing into Norad and harrassing hunters and travellers and sacking entire settlements for everything they can)

The story's basically a depressing look at how the people of Selphia try (and sometimes fail) to cope with their new harsh reality. Blossom keels over shortly after things start and Doug becomes an actually-unbearable prick, eventually driven out of town for chiselling and skimming; Margaret, fanservicingly coupled with Forte, struggles to reconcile being married to one of Selphia's top hunters, the vegan-hostile state of the world and *other* things; Kiel's growing cynicism and despondence at being unable to smartypants a solution contrasted with Amber's increasingly-grating naivete while simaltaniously borderline starving herself for the sake of her husband and child.
>>
>>126052674

And true to one of UnReal World's more infamous aspects, the core thread that ties a chunk of this together is Lest and Xiao Pai's descent into cannibalism (though I should clarify that said cannibalism is but a plot device and a means of facilitating stuffing, shapely weight gain and growth, as if that'll abate your disgust any) and the hollowing of the walls separating mere pursuit of survival from outright animalistic savagery and hedonism, as well as the eventual development that theirs is not the only extreme means to the end of survival in Selphia.

Things eventually come to a particularly bad head, a Dwarf Fortress-esque spiral of events that leads to Selphia's sacking and Lest and Xiao Pai losing their home, their friends and family, their worldly possessions, everything they'd endured all the miseries of the blight to build and protect, even the Maya Road cabin long since looted. That finally discovery pushes them over the brink; in a flash they turn on each other and Xiao kills Lest, surpassing him in corruption thanks to her own instability. Unable to cope with having lost everything dear to her, the dearest of all by her own hand, all Xiao can do is make sure she and Lest are together forever in in a manner I'm sure you can guess.

And that's about all I've got nailed down thus far, barring a few floating threads like Kiel trying to break a siege on Selphia by going on a spell-fueled rampage after Amber starves to death and he blames himself, Forte having to kill him to keep him from turning on Selphia and dying in the process, and Margaret being unable to deal with all this and becoming the de facto guardian of Kiel's kid as well, opting instead for the two of them to "run into the setting sun" which translates to self-immolation.

I warned you. Christ, I need a drink.

nope. cook as many stacks as you want as long as you have the ingredients for it.
>>
>>126078527
>>126078616
The "catch" is that ingredients are not essentially unlimited if they're in the store, like in previous games. Quite the opposite, in fact: ingredients are quite limited (if there are more than 20 a day for most things, you are extremely lucky), and they are only available the times the stores are open. For example, Ice, which is an important ingredient in ice creams and smoothies, you can only get about 2-6 per week until you unlock Ice Country.
>>
>>126079841
So you can't just get ice from a freezer? Where do you get it from?
>>
>>126080289

You buy them from Silk Country, but you get 1-3 per visit, or from Ice Country for huge stacks.

Might be, but clearly the game takes place in modern (or even future) times. Not-Japan Country had its famous crosswalk featured in that variety program every Tuesday. Rose Country has androids, while Cabin Country is a technologically advanced underground city, with the log cabins and alps a mix of foreign relations policy and propaganda.

All of these things provided in game made me assert this theory that Oak Tree Town and the Trade Countries are dyson sphere colonies, with Oak Tree Town either a young colony searching for prospective human resources or a dying colony in need of manpower to make it stay afloat and, hopefully, turn its fate around (either way, you're hired for the task.)

I've always wanted to get into the mainline HM games, but it just seems like it would have a much harder time staying fun. In RF if I'm bored I can alternate between requests in the later games, or just leveling my crops and building up my financial base/skills while I interact with the town, and then there's also the dungeons which are basically the pay off for your accumulated resources and skills.

>>126063715
How hard do you think a Magic Only playthrough would be for 1?

I'd like to tell myself that it would be a huge reason to work on cooking, since the RP usage of spells is higher, and iirc you can't cast from health like you can farm/swing, but I also get the feeling like it would just end up being another game of "9/10ths of my money comes from mining gems and then later mining+forging rings, and all my money then goes towards buying Fried Eggs because of that beautiful 15 RP for 30 seconds of digestion.
>>
>>126095520
It would be rough, RP costs were fairly high from what I remember, plus no casting from hp as you said.

Plus teleport requires 1rp and death is back to your last save. Pretty brutal.
>>

Blame the UnReal World angle, the nature of the game taps into your inner Iron Age wildman so much you want to start hootin' and hollerin' like a goddamn Tusken Raider when you accomplish certain things, and it's also an interesting juxtaposition of Rune Factory's idyllic land-of-milk-and-honey setting; naturally, it makes you wonder how the people of the latter would cope (or not) when suddenly faced with the hardships of the former, and that's where the fun really starts.

>>126066102
You'd think so.

You'd be wrong.

An idea that popped up today and that I haven't been able to shake is that of Dolce's descent being rooted in using magic to basically put her body in a quasi-undead form of stasis and keeping herself going by consuming magical energies and even monster (and other) souls (which, if hunting put them on hostile terms with people, would naturally make her enemy numero uno among monsterkind and particularly spirits) and I'm sure you can guess where that goes. It actually makes that final fall more interesting - as Dolce cracks further and further, aspects of Pico's own manic personality start showing through both to the reader and other townsfolk - and also inspired a rather neat extra mindscrew to make her end more interesting.

All this hungerrtalk actually reminds me: a few years ago I remember someone talking about an HM-like with the premise being that it was a more rough-and-tumble wilderness-y affair: the three things I remember in particular's that (A) townsfolk really, really, REALLY liked to remind you to stockpile enough food for the winter, (B) the marriage ritual was giving a blanket to someone, which was apparently a pain in the ass to make because IIRC sheep produced wool according to a real-world timetable, and (C) immediately after marriage Anon's husband went "welp, I'm going to work in a logging camp and periodically send back money, see you" and was gone just like that. Anyone possibly know what this is referring to?

If you mean in regards to all of that *stuff* that I've thoroughly creeped half the thread out with:

I'm not quite sure, really. The thing that makes Xiao Pai work (besides the nigh-fetishistic favoritism, natch) is that she has that aggressive, die-hard, do-anything-it-takes-to-impress-and-satisfy-her-lover streak, plus insecurities amplified by the stress of harsh survival, that would allow her to be pushed over that line. Forte has her pride and professionalism, which is what allows her to do what must be done even if it leads to an honorable death while killing her own brother; Amber is too selfless, empathic and extroverted and wouldn't even be able to bear eating monster meat, let alone humanoid; Margaret won't cross the line because she's too much of a self-aware people person, and even if she has such deep-rooted fears of losing loved ones such that a particularly-horrible death of her spouse and the shock of then being presumed to care for the child of said spouse's killer could push her to kill the fruit of the poison tree and then herself in despair, that's a far different route from actually dehumanizing people to the point of eating them; Dolce is macabre enough to cross the line, but too elegant and proud to cross it in that particular fashion (and she'd deny some of those much-desired kink scenes); and Clorica, while I've not put much thought into her yet, is of such a fluffy, humanist character that I can't see her going all Mrs. Lovett to Lest's Sweeny Todd. Frey I have ideas for with Dylas.

Nope, Xiao's the best match-up with Lest for this horrible scenario, plus it opens a nice avenue of exposing friction between her and Lin Fa as she starts to grow suspicious, perhaps leading to Lin Fa snatching Lest and Xiao's kid (Luna, natch) and leaving for the East, explaining in a note she had to "so I can make Luna strong enough not to give into despair because of her mother."

That would actually be cool. I had a couple of stupid ideas of what they could do in a sequel and Town Customization was one of them.

Things like having the story take place in Sech after some large shift in political party, show that the people are good people just more competitive and ambitious than the rest of the world. You are some kind of a leader of a town and have to various things to make sure that its profitable. You have to invest money into the various district of the the town, doing so will improve its economy and also give various rewards. For example upgrading the shopping district will give you items to purchase, upgrading the industrial district will give more forging recipes. Since the Sechs are more technologically advance you can put more emphasis on machinery to help you out in your farming duties and you cab even customize your own Mecha to help you out in fighting.

Why don't I like Story of Seasons?

Why don't you like it?

In the thumbnail she looks really depressed. Like in the "a dragon that's definitely not Venti just demolished my entire village" way.

Maybe because rental fields make managing your farm take much longer than it should
Or the repetitive dialogue that makes visiting town daily more of a chore than a pleasure

I hate the layout of the town so so much

Something about bathing. I can't read the rest.

I also don't know who they are.

It's a nice-enough picture and coloring, but it certainly does have "sitting on the back steps of an ambulance after your house burns down on Christmas Eve" vibe to it. I think it's the way the hair splits and falls on her shoulders, makes her look a bit frazzled.

It's cool that you can translate
It's Daryl and Leia from HMDS, she lives in his bathtub lol

I hope the next SoS game will be on the New 3DS/NX. Marvelous was really pushing it on the latest one.

They were so close to alleviating the repetitive dialog... I mean, it's still better than in previous HM games, it's definitely an improvement, but if they hadn't of make it so the different dialog was totally random to get it would have been so much better..
>>
Does anyone at all zoom in the SOS camera, shit is useless...
The camera angle they use in the semi-cutscenes when you collect lumber for Gunther/Maurice is way better, can they not use that because of frame rate or something?

More like barely read. So is the comic about her being frustrated that her house is taken over by the guy?
>>

According to her, he's a gentleman, so I can only imagine that she's mad that he refuses to take a bath because she's living in his bathtub.. or something like that

Anon, because of you I created a rf folder to keep all these pictures.

Thanks for the dump.

Oh, no problem. I have a folder for all these pics anyway so I thought I'd use them.
