Remove Tombkeks
So I'm trying something, and welcome input.
Having had zero success in finding a Total War-like game on Android, I'm downloading Medieval 1, and plan to install it, take any cd-waiving measures needed and copy the install folder over to DOSbox on my tablet.
Is there any reason this won't work?

I made a tutorial on basic save-editing on the TWC forums. Link:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/search.php?searchid=4658829
picrelated is a graphic from it, you could probably figure it out from this if you know your way around SaveParser.
The inability to change your capital normally is absolutely fucking unforgivable in Attila, FFS, the Western Roman Empire changed their fucking capital just a few years after 395 in real history.
Anyway, with Tanukhids, at least you can just avoid capturing Dumatha and it won't be a big loss. It's a natural location to leave a smoking ruin.
nth for shedding Frankish blood in Paris
>>124766930
To clarify:
What I call "Original Capital Region ID" is the region ID for your bullshit historical capital that you will always revert to if you capture/recapture it. Just make sure you change this value when you go to edit your capital.

Hang out around Arabia, raiding the same few settlements as needed to keep your food supply up. Once you have both hordes full of proper units (meaning none of the trash auto-spawned units), you can go into Roman lands. Make sure that you have enough food surplus to overcome the penalty for horde rivalry, which you'll have to deal with when you combine forces for battle.
Before you start razing settlements for the story mission, pick where you want to settle, then burn down Roman settlements away from there. When you get the mission to liberate factions, know that you automatically annex all of your liberated factions later, if they remain allies.
Also, never, ever, capture Dumatha, because it will automatically become, and remain, your capital, unless you edit your savegame or the startpos (before the campaign starts). Pick out your capital beforehand, and make sure you capture it yourself if it looks like one of your liberated allies will themselves. If it means you settle down earlier than you want, it doesn't matter, because IIRC settling before the missions tell you won't actually make you fail them, and you get one chance at picking your capital if you don't save edit.

TREAARRYAY
Is there any good guide out there? I'm new to the series and I'm getting wrecked in combat in Attila
>>124787628
Attila is a difficult first game.
What would you like to know?
>>124787628
You shouldn't have started out with the hardest game in the series. Shogun 2, or Medieval 2 are more beginner friendly.
>>124787865
>m2
>easy with that unresponsiveness
>>124787778
just general combat tactics really, how should I position my troops and stuff like that.
Also Attila was the only one I could find working torrent for, I know that Shogun 2 is easier but couldn't find a working one.
I just want to get ready for Total Warhammer
>>124787945
When the AI is that unresponsive it's impossible to lose
>>124788246
Atilla is a great game, but I think it's difficult as a first. I will try and help you best I can.
Swords and axes are basically the same, they are to murder infantry.
Axes have better armor penetration and are therefor better used against heavy units.
Two handed axes are killing machines, but they have shit missile block and get killed dead by projectiles.
Spears: Spears get murdered by swords and axes, but pointy sticks are good against horses.
Like other units they have abilities, they can form a line and point their sticks in one direction, this is good to hold a line against approaching horses
Hills are very important. Never attack up a hill.
Putting units on a hill and trying to hold a line is very effective, they become a magnitude stronger.
Archers are for range, crossbows are like better archers, you point your crossbow unit at some guys and make them dead right quick.
Archers have heavy shot for armored units (you can check how armored someone is by hovering over them, it says very light/ light/ medium/ heavy), whistle shot to make them scared if they are blinking and fire shot to make them a little bit less scared but still spooked and to set buildings on fire.
I'll continue because this thing fucked me on character limit
Waiting for vampires trailer.
>>124788246
HAMMER
AND
ANVIL
Use spearmen to tie the enemy place, then flank with cavalry and charge them in the rear. All you need to win 90% of battles.
It's harder in Attila because the AI does the same thing, and will try to counter it.
>>124788465
> Settling for inferior undead
>>124788440
>>124788246
Hot pro tip beginner strategy: put your archers in front of your spear line so they have more range, have them fire at the approaching enemy and then pull them back behind the spear line to protect them
Skirmishers: Little ammunition and range, but they fucking destroy people. They destroy people even better if you manage to shoot them in the side or in the back.
The sling-rock guys are similar but I mostly use them like archers with closer range and more damage
Horses: there's shock cavalry which is really good at charging in and making people fly about, but sucks ass in longer engagements, you want to charge and either have everyone dead or pull out.
Horse archers are self explanatory.
Use cavalry to maneuver around the enemy and smash them in the back, sometimes you can find a single unit that you can surround with cavalry or some archers you can charge at
In Attila low tier units have low moral, but they often return and come back in the battle after they got scared for a little. If a unit starts to blink white and run away you can chase them down with horses.
Moral goes down the shitter if the general dies, you don't want your general to die and if the enemy general dies it's much easier to get everyone scared and running away
When you win a battle you don't want to click "end", you want to use your horses to chase down and murder anyone that runs away for sweet XP and dead enemies
Hot pro tip number 2: "hammer and anvil" (you can google that too), your infantry line is your anvil that holds the enemy and your cavalry smashes in the back aka the hammer
>>124788465
anime can fuck off
>>124788686
>put your archers in front of your spear line so they have more range
Ignore him.
Put your archers behind your spears so they can provide cover for them. Also allows them to continuously fire and not have to worry about getting charged.
>>124788839
Obviously you don't fucking leave them there
>>124788909
Especially in multi a good player will just continually charge your archers forcing them to retreat then pulling back.
There is literally no advantage to putting in-front of your spear line, it leaves them more vulnerable and provides less cover.
>>124789046
>multiplayer
literally who cares
>>124788839
Ignore him
If you put your archers behind your infantry line before the battle actually starts, the enemy archers will end up shooting your infantry while your archers do absolutely nothing because they're out of range
Have your archers do abit of skirmish with the enemy but obviously dont have them too far from your main infantry line. If cavalry ends up charging at your archers, you gotta make sure you have cavalry of your own to back your archers up
>>124789046
>Multiplayer
Literally a completely different game.
Putting your archers in front of your spears when against an AI is completely safe.
>>124788440
>>124788479
>>124788686
>>124789215
Alright, thank you kind anons
>>124789046
I put them in front because that's how I did it in Shogun 2 and it doesn't take long to pull them back and tell the spears to go forward, I like to bait stupid AI horses and shoot at them
Also during sieges I can put the archers at the edge of a tower's range so they can shoot at anyone coming out (or set the settlement on fire) without anyone getting damaged
Multiplayer is probably different but I don't really engage with that
>>124789141
>>124789220
If you are in singleplayer the AI will waste shots on your spears, while your skirmisher tear them apart. It's best in both situation.
>>124789215
> If you put your archers behind your infantry line before the battle actually starts, the enemy archers will end up shooting your infantry while your archers do absolutely nothing because they're out of range
Then move them so they are in range, this ain't rocket science.
>>124789378
>Then move them so they are in range, this ain't rocket science.
Or, you know, YOU COULD JUST HAVE HAD THEM IN RANGE FROM THE START SINCE THERE'S NO RISK ANYWAY
>>124789378
>Then move them so they are in range
aka in front of the infantry
>>124789457
>YOU COULD JUST HAVE HAD THEM IN RANGE FROM THE START
That's exactly what I'm suggesting put them in range, just behind a front-line of spears.
>>124789493
You move the spears forward also
>>124789625
I'm not sure you realize how retarded you are
>>124789301
I forgot to mention that towers are really strong and you want to avoid getting shot.
It's easiest to use an onager's fire shot to burn them apart, onagers are built from an upgraded artisan building
You can also hire a mercenary but those are very expensive every turn so don't keep them too long
Archers can use their fire arrows to make the (wooden) towers burn as well, but it takes a long time and archers might get damaged in the process
If the tower is made of wood you can tell the archers to shoot fire arrows at the settlement buildings to make the houses burn and set the tower on fire too, burning homes will also lower the enemies moral
Have fun playing Attila!
I thought Franks were a good faction to start with if you happen to be looking for one
>>124789625
>That's exactly what I'm suggesting put them in range, just behind a front-line of spears.
Yes and have your spear line take unnecessary damage because why not
The AI will probably just have a bunch of lone archers shoot at you with no spears covering them
While you have BOTH spears and archers taking damage from enemy archers alone, great trade buddy
>>124789625
>In range
>Behind the thing the other archers are shooting at.
Jesus fucking Christ.
Look what you made me do you faggot! YOU MADE ME MAKE A FUCKING MSPAINT DOODLE!
>>124789220
>Putting your archers in front of your spears when against an AI is completely safe.
Yeah but you will be taking unnecessary casualties. If you stick spears in front of your archers the AI will target them instead, which will do almost nothing if they have decent armour and missile block chance.
Alexander would have put his archers in front of the infantry line
>>124789974
Strategy sure is hard
>>124790336
What's the red unit?
Stationary archers that can't move? :^)
>>124790391
The AI won't retreat
>>124790452
If it gets to murder all your infantry because you put them in the front like a retard while your T1 archers miss half their shots then of course it won't retreat
>>124790602
Archers are practically useless against spears from the front. Your archers will take theirs out before they can do any real damage.
>>124790762
If that's the case the AI will retreat
>>124790876
No it won't
Have they said when we are getting that unscripted Orc gameplay?
>>124790762
I'd rather take damage to my archers in skirmish than have my infantry tank them and cause mass rout because they lost 70 men before getting charged. Besides, just how fucking bad do you need to be at macro to not be able to skirmish with your archers?
>>124792140
Next week.
>>124792685
>Next week.
might as well have stabbed me in the heart
>>124792140
When are we getting some FUCKING Vampire Counts content?
>>124792545
It's about winning with minimal casualties, you'll lose less men before their skirmishers route, and have more skirmishers to flank/target cavalry with after their skirmishers are dead.
>>124792954
Yeah I sure need those archers that used up all their arrows routing the enemy archers who meanwhile, together with the enemy towers, murdered half my infantry line
>>124793058
> Their archers use all their ammo killing barely any spearman
> Your archers use less than half ammo routing their archers
> Use remaining ammo to flank and damage main army / take out cavalry
>>124793217
It's nice you got so many reaction images saved, but maybe you should focus on being less of a shitty general ;)
>>124792954
It just seems like you don't know how to skirmish. You're supposed to weaken the enemy lines (or take out their missile units if you have missile advantage), while making sure the enemy can't do that to you using your own cavalry.
If you can't do that, don't bother bringing missile units at all. You're better off just charging the enemy lines with your infantry while picking up the retreating missile units with your cav.
Why even use archers if javelins wrecks them hard?>>124790336
Is there a way to turn off females warriors in Attila? I don't like killing women.
>>124793910
There are mods that do that
>>124793659
>You're supposed to weaken the enemy lines (or take out their missile units if you have missile advantage), while making sure the enemy can't do that to you
And screening your archers with spears allows you to do that more effectively.
>>124767113
should add it to the pastebin
>>124794418
Because pulling them back when enemy charges is too hard? And what are you going to do when the AI sometimes does the same thing? Will you still put your archers behind your spears so you will voluntarily give AI something to shoot at?
The only reason to do what you say is when you have high armour units that can take arrows better than most other infantry. Putting your militia up in front just because ¨they have spears¨ is retarded. And even against high armour units missiles like arrows have penetration and do morale damage. And not even mentioning enemy siege units, who will retardedly shoot the nearest unit to them. I'd much rather take those shots at my spaced out missile units rather than at my tight spear formations.
>>124795130
>Because pulling them back when enemy charges is too hard
It's not optimal, it disrupts the formation, and it's time they could be firing at the approaching enemy.
> And what are you going to do when the AI sometimes does the same thing
The AI isn't programmed to do that
> Putting your militia up in front just because ¨they have spears¨ is retarded.
They also have shields and a very high missile block chance.
> And not even mentioning enemy siege units
Which you should take out with cav before going into skirmish
>>124795310
Are you talking strictly Attila?
>Attila and Rome 2 are so braindead easy you can do just whatever you want with your stupid archers or javelins, you will win regardless even if the enemy outnumbers you 5:1
>>124795310
You are fabricating some weird reality in which there's this really specific situation in which you are right, but I feel like you should take a step back and contemplate how you are in truth completely wrong.
>>124795310
If you're really that lazy you can just put them on skirmish mode, and they'll auto retreat behind your line. Might lose a few, but big deal.
Am I the only one who finds archers mostly useless? Unless they get to shoot at a sitting target for a really long time, they usually do jack shit, and even in best-case scenarios I never get more than 60 or so kills, playing on 120-sized units.
Crossbows actually kill things in one or two shots and have the same range, slingers may do nothing to armor but they shred anything unarmored, and skirmishers, if you micro well with them, destroy fucking everything.
But archers? The especially good use I have for them is routing wavering enemies with massed whistle shot.
>>124796820

Braindead AI, you say?
>>124798357
Y..yeah... any day now
>>124798383
>>124798495
Good lord, the units don't even violently vibrate! GASP!
(also that second webm is Rome 2, but since you never played the games you couldn't possibly know that)
>>124798449
>still not SS
>not even ANY other mods
>>124798383
>>124798495
What exactly is the problem meant to be in the WebMs? Also that second one is Rome 2
>>124798545
>mods will fix it!!
I'm not going to play this garbage game to make new webms.
>>124798357
>>124798506
Someone told me that Tombkings are more than just Egyptian skeletons.
What other units do they have?
And where are the mummies?
Also, why exactly are they alive? Vampires I understand, but I know nothing about these guy's lore
>>124798606
>he didn't play ANY mods for M2, a game extremely famous for its mods that completely change the game instead of just adding some units and graphical tweaks like Rome 2 or Attila mods
It's like playing Fallout:NV without mods, I can't even imagine what kind of fucking faggot you'd have to be.
>>124798690
>And where are the mummies
No flesh bags allowed
>>124798540
>>124798578
I know.
I lost my txt with copypastas. Half a year ago when we had the same shitposting like today, someone was posting those 2 webms with shitlong text about how there is no 1vs many in warscape games, only 1vs1 with really short intervals. I hoped that if I would post them, somebody would post that pasta
>>124798717
I fell for the meme, installed and played SS 6.4
It's still complete and utter garbage, it's like taking a deep breath and jumping in a pool of shit
>/twg/ hates m2 now
what happened to this place?
>>124798867
>le just meme XD
another EPIC M2 meme poster has arrived!
>>124798778
What's the matter buddy, game too hard for you? Can't comprehend that the enemy comes from more than one direction at the same time? Can't shit out full stacks of elite units in 2 turns? Can't beat the enemy even when outnumbered 5:1 because he isn't able to counter even the most basic of flanking maneuvers?
>>124798867
We don't hate it we just hate hypocrites that praise it as some godly game without flaws
>>124798690
>Also, why exactly are they alive? Vampires I understand, but I know nothing about these guy's lore
Basically there was a big all powerful ancient civilization
The kings become desperate for immortality
Priests can't figure it out so the kings are entombed until they can be brought back
Some badass priest named Nagash creates necromancy
Tries to turn the entire world into his undead puppets
Tries to cast big spell, gets interrupted, doesn't go off but kills Everything in the empire
Awakens preserved kings as a side effect
The vampires also had a role in this but it's too fucking complex to bother writing
>>124798923
It may have its flaws but it's still a god tier game.
>>124798923
Nobody said it has no flaws, it's just better than Rome 2 or Attila in every single way except graphics and camera controls (and even those aren't so bad). It's like somebody praising Fallout 3 the whole time while shunning Fallout 1 or 2.
>>124798912
Defeating this godly AI sure took all the hardcore gamer skillz I have at my disposal...
>>124798867
People are fucking sick of memesters who shit constantly on the new games while ignore all the obvious flaws in the old ones out of nostalgia.
>>124798981
What's with these shitty fallout analogies? Fallout 3 has no resemblance to the first two games other than (somewhat) the setting
>>124798967
>>124798981
woah buddy, aren't nostalgia googles this thick only available on prescription?
>>124799091
>Fallout 3 has no resemblance to the first two games other than (somewhat) the setting
Attila and Rome 2 have no resemblance of older TW games other than (somewhat) game mechanics
>>124799039
>mod with larger unit size
hurhur look!! the game is flawed!!!!!
I can do the same with FoTE.
>>124798981
>it's just better than Rome 2 or Attila in every single way
People like this is why others have started turning on m2
>>124799138
I honestly can't fathom how Medieval 2 fags managed to stay alive when they are this stupid
>>124799189
>except graphics and camera controls
Don't quote me wrong you fat fuck.
>>124799138
Are you retarded?
>turnbased tactics game
>real time FPS/TPS* (*not really)
It's a complete genre change.
>>124799291
>fat fuck
now this is desperation
>>124799291
It's just as disgustingly wrong either way
>>124799301
Exactly. While older TW games were about strategy on the world map and in battle, immersion, light roleplaying and an actual challenge, Attila and Rome 2 are about making screenshots and trying to corner yourself against 10:1 armies so you have a resemblance of actual gameplay (but you still win of course).
>>124799367
What is he missing? We're talking about modded M2 of course.
>>124799437
Now I see what you mean. It makes sense.
The only good thing about Medieval 2 is the setting.
That's kind of sad, in a way.
>>124799458
I dig it
Lads, I'm thinking of upgrading from my560tito a 970. Only play at 1080, so am I getting Jewed? Also, to keep it relevant, what factions are you gonna play in AoC? I'm thinking Danes at the moment for muh axes
>>124799083
>i hate games because people like them
>>124799645
>Because people keep using them as a basis to say other games are shit
>>124799630
You're gonna need better hardware (which isn't on the market yet) for Total War: "built for future hardware" Attila
>>124799630
I might start with Merica or Asturias, I haven't fully decided yet, and there's still that last faction to be revealed
Danes do look fun and I like their infantry, but chasing down routing troops with cavalry after the battle is a lot of fun and I think I would miss that.
>>124799630
970 is pretty good value for money, although if you have the cash a 980ti is better.
Why do Medieval 2 fans have to be such cunts?
I really don't understand, why don't they just go play their old game and leave everyone alone?
>>124799870
Does the 3.5GB Vram cause any issues?
Isn't a 980 overkill for 1080p? This is what I've been told.
The Empires roster is so depressing, I mean will the individual counties not have their unique units and regiments?
No Hochland Long Rifles?
No Averland Heavy Halberds?
What about Nuln Pike-men?
>>124799905
For the same reason I think positive threads about things like Fallout 4 should be deleted by mods.
>>124799809
I find that my skirmishers are fast enough to run down the routing enemies about 90% of the time. What does Merica looks like it'll play like?
>>124799870
Thanks for the lack of memery anon. I'm working as a Law Intern and at a bar part time so I don't have the shekels to get anything better
>>124799947
>Isn't a 980 overkill for 1080p?
Not if you want to run on MAX settings and expect sold 60fps

4 RACES, not factions you moron.
>>124800498
>complete at launch
Do you realize how many different units the Empire has?
>>124800528
>>124800559
as he said only 4 factions, you can be sure subfactions will be released as dlc
>>124800629
>4 factions
Races, picking your race and then your hero is supposed to function like picking your culture and your faction does now.
>>124800716
That's speculation
Go get'em boys
>>124800716
Both Empire Lords are from the same city and have the same unit list.
Empire has ONE faction, it's called Reikland.
>>124800787
If you think Empire will only be one faction and the Orks only being one clan your incredibly mistaken.
>>124800813
I fucking hate that shit. It happens in almost every fucking battle. It can really fuck you up in MP too.
>>124800787
CA specifically corrected people when asked why the game only had 4 factions. Saying it was 4 races because there was no way they could do as many factions for each race as in previous games.
>>124800847
Not that guy, but I don't know much about Warhammer lore, is Reikland a prominent province within the empire?
How united are the different provinces, would it make sense for the player to fight other parts of the empire to unite it?
>>124801008
Reikland is the main province and has the Imperial capital there. Altdorf.
The various Empire factions have been at war in the past though seeing as this is set during the time of Karl Franz they're breaking the lore somewhat to pick apart the Empire again so you don't start out as a superpower.
>>124801008
Empire is pretty damn fractured. It only really unites when shit hits the fan and they need to repel a giant Chaos invasion.
Heroes from other provinces as DLC are absolutely certain.
>>124801008
Think of the Empire as the HRE and Reikland as Austria
>>124801084
>Imperial capital
It's not the permanent capital mind you. The capital is based on who got elected as emperor IIRC
>>124765087
Hello.
Is this normal ?
>>124800984
They've literally confirmed that the Empire campaign starts with uniting the Empire.
And since both Lords are from Reikland where exactly do you think they'll start?
>>124801008
>is Reikland a prominent province within the empire?
It's the seat of power, where the capital of Altdorf is. Home of everything from the Colleges of Magic to the School of Engineers and the Great Temple of Sigmar.
>How united are the different provinces
We don't really know the state of things at the start of the game, but the Empire has certainly fought amongst itself before and each province is ruled by a semi-autonomous Elector Count.
>>124801197
I've seen this bug before, happens with unit placement in forts. Sometimes they'll form this massive columns.
>>124801195
Yes it is, however Altdorf is arguably one of the largest cities anyways.
>>124801197
That happens sometimes in Shogun 2. Especially under routing.
>>124801195
>It's not the permanent capital mind you.
It's basically permanent, the Capital has only ever been there and one other place.
It's been there ever since some old Emperor moved it when the old capital got fucked in the ass by Orcs.
>>124801263
>>124801240
Oh ok. Thanks.
They weren't routing they were just standing outside like this, looking kinda sad...
