Who is everyone's favorite great migrator?

I was busy for a little bit, but after the last thread I want to play as a migrating faction, settle in Syracuse and become Graeco-Roman Pagan.

Pic related is all the great migrators. Visigoths start at war with the WRE and it's very difficult to make the crossing to Syracuse without getting murdered by the Roman navy.
Vandals get ship bonuses and I hate ships.
Alans get a roster update in a couple days.
(I have no idea about any of the unit rosters)

That leaves Ostrogoths, Suebians and maybe Visigoths if I get good enough to sack my way through the East, down to Africa and over the sea to Syracuse.

Who should I play as? I'm incapable of making decisions on my own

Anyway, my favorite is probably the Visigoths, but if you want to settle in Syracuse and the rest of Italty, you should go with Ostrogoths. They can recruit Roman units, don't suffer a penalty for occupying Roman towns, and it satisfies my history autism.

I'm considering to play as Visigoths, I like their win condition settlements.
But I have dark memories of trying to take boats to Rome to sack it early on, and getting my fleet sunk by Roman navy.
What would be the best way to get to Syracuse? I can't go around the right because Constantinople is in the way and I'm bad at video games

I was being stupid and you are right, I didn't look thoroughly enough and confused red ERE flags with WRE flags.
Visigoths are neutral with Western and at war with the Eastern Roman empire.

What I also forgot/didn't look up is that the Ostrogoths are apparently at war with the WRE (not with the ERE), so I'm not too sure how to get to Syracuse from there.

What you could do as the Ostrogoths is go through ERE lands quickly, heading into Greece and then going by boat around Italy to land next to Syracuse. Going Ostrogoths is even more perfect because you can claim to be reviving the true Pagan Roman Empire.

Vandals are pretty good, their +150% from raiding/sacking is INSANE

Looting one major coastal city gives you easy dosh that can jumpstart/help your economy, and you can loot the city again a couple turns later after they rebuild

Going that route is probably my best shot.

One thing that bothers me about Ostrogoths is the provinces the game wants to to conquer for win conditions (they are around the ocean on the right side of Italy), there are no nice borders that I can easily fortify against the Hunnic menace and the Greeks
The Iberian peninsula has an unpleasent shape, but at least there are clear borders once you conquered it all

Charlemagne already is kind of Reconquista since you can go reconquer Christian soil from the infidels
As far as I know there is no short and closely defined time period for Reconquista (google says 718 to 1492) so I'm not sure if there would be a point to making a campaign specifically about that area when Charlemagne kind of serves the same purpose

You could ignore those provinces until you kill off the Huns. Once they are gone, you should be the dominant power with your Gothic, Germanic, and Roman units. Then you can sweep across the world, get those victory conditions, and recreate a Pagan Roman Empire.

2 different teams.

Fantasy team is working on the Warhammer game and 2 standalone expansions that seamlessly join the main game if installed together along with DLC making it the largest most detailed world they've created. Games Worskhop are heavily involved in the process so expect a lot of expensive DLC's on par with Paradox Jewry.

History team is continuing with Attila and supporting Rome 2 with a new DLC pack and Patch. Probably early stages in their next full game aswell. Hopefully on a better engine.

I fucking love this desu. It adds a strategic/logistical challenge to the campaign.

Altough in vainilla Rome it could get really frustating as men died like flies, but in mods like EB this wasn't that much of a problem. In my ongoing romani campaign I always have a reserve legion (consisting of 1 unit of each velite/hastati/prĆ­ncipe/triarii and socii) to send to a battle front every year in order to substitute the wearied fighting legion.

On its own a unit should replenish like 1-2%. In a province with the correct building it should be 5-10%. No more than 10%for the highest.tiers

Elves are a shoe in, but I am not sure how their expansion could be. Wood elves will be a separate DLC/FLC since they are already in the current map's territory.

Compare the LotR mod with the Warhammer mod

Warhammer was developed to be a table top wargame. It has much more variety in races and has a magic system that is much more fleshed out and armies that are much more unique and easier to translate into a game.

I like LotR, but I don't think it could ever make as good of a TW setting as Warhammer can.

One cannonball that pierces the exoskeleton won't kill a spider, the only way that would kill it is if it completely destroys a vital internal organ that lacks a replacement that can be put into overdrive.

You hit the joint of a spiders leg and you throw it out of balance,but it will still hobble around and kill shit.

You break an elephant's leg bones, especially one that size, and you incapacitate it. You hit it in the side and the blunt force trauma can still break bones, and size elephants completely rely on and internal bone structure to work, you completely fuck them over.

Lore of death spell that slowly and randomly moves around the battlefield, anything that touches it takes an initiative test and dies if it fails it.

An Initiative test is a roll of a d6 and if the result is lower than your Initiative you pass (automatic failure on a 6 though), high elves for example all tote an initiative 6+ while zombies have like initiative of 1, orcs have something like 3. As a stat its a sort of combo of physical agility and quickness of thinking It's a pretty beastly aoe nuke on big dumbass armies like orcs and undead.

Given TW doesn't have a stat really comparable to Initiative I'm curious as to how it'll work desu.

Thats all you need really. Everything else is useless expense, if you kite right and use the artillery well and make a couple good charges, youll beat any army.

The other slots are filled with line depending on how good you are. Efficient armies are not 20/20 in this game, 14-15 armies are cost effective and deadily with the right comp. Spend your money on artillery, not more line. Learn to use the line you have, the enemy army narroes into your arty anyway, really dont need that much length or coverage

Fots is an efficiency game. Make due with small, elite forces and let them upgrade into monsters. Focus most of your money on your economy. Players often recruit more than they need, really slows down your economic expansion. Trade income can blind you to the weaknesses in your infrastructure. Playing solid defense usually means the nation youre at war with is probably losing somewhere else.

Fighting eachother to the death and keepin trick-ass serfs in line was literally all the nobility did. Hence why they were called the warrior class (as opposed to the working class (peasants) and the learning class (monks and priests)). Knights were literally raised and educated in the art of war since childhood.

Most nobles weren't brilliant and military academies weren't invented, but they weren't fucking retards either. They were intelligent people with an understanding of how strategy worked. Just fucking google some famous medieval battles and you'll see that medieval leaders didn't just zerg rush at eachother. If such a zerg rush happened it was either due to bad communication or the culture consisting of Germanic idiots (I'm looking at you, Anglo-Saxons!).

Minor faults include that it doesn't run well on lower-end PC's because it's not well optimized

Playing it after Shogun 2 I thought Attila was harder and more complicated, but I ended up really enjoying it.

Most of the missing units are just reskins with some exceptions. Each of the rosters shown so far has more variety than every faction in any previous game combined, so not sure why people are complaining.

What we've seen of the unit rosters isn't (I'm certain we'll get some unique units in the form of DLC and maybe AoR units) but the personalized quest lines for each lord, the unique tech trees for each faction, the unique gameplay mechanics for each race, the detail in all the building trees and models, all seem quite a bit more in depth than what we're used to.

each of the races in WH has about as much going for it as entire cultures from previous games. Each roster also has a high variety in terms of skeletons and animations. You are use to the faction rosters being long since we upgrade units somewhere along the campaign and unique units rarely being that different from other factions, just reskins. Albeit there are a few reskings like two units being the same except for the weapon used. For the most part there is a far higher variety in WH than previous total war games.

Yeah but the thing is those will mostly just be reskins of Reiksguard with some exceptions (black bears). modders will be able to add those easy, it's better that CA focus on adding units with unique skeletons/animations which modders can't add in.

The reiksguard is the knightly order devoted to the Emperor and based in Reikland. They are the top of the list for representing the orders. They could either call it quits there and take the heat for not including all, or do a couple more and take the heat for not including all. There is something like 20 different knighlty orders in the lore, maybe about 10 of them that actually matter. As the other guy said, they might be AoR units. Otherwise it would just bloat the unit recruitment UI.

Attila has pretty good diversity IMO, especially with DLC adding Celts and Empires of the East. It's definitely better than other games like Shogun 2 which is praised despite having literally no diversity.

Some of it gameplay expansions, most of those are 15, some 10 and I think there's one for 5 (talking about CK2)

The thing is that they also charge for character portraits, music, unit visuals, and so on.
That means I can go buy the mongol DLC for 15 bucks right now and nobody will look like a mongol, there won't be any horse archers, the music is still medieval European shenanigans unless I pay 10$ more.

On the one hand you have to pay to unlock the ability to play as the faction, nothing more.

No, it isn't, because those people will not contribute nearly as much in their lifetime as the average White teenager.
