Only Brits and Murrikans were primarily wing mounted. Japs, Germans and Soviets had nose mounted guns.
There is less room to fit weapons in the nose though and there are difficulties with vibration and heat when mounting a gun in a blast tube between cylinder banks as Germans and Soviets did.
That's why Bf 109 B, D and E models had guns in the wings for example.

How do you expect to fit 4-6 MGs in the nose? That's why there's usually 2 small caliber MGs or 1-2 cannons of varying size that can be placed in the nose. Fitting more in means complete redesign of the plane, because then you get front heavy, need a bigger nose, need a bigger engine, and so on.

It's quicker with the 23mm but you can do it without it.
Short burst from a bit further out with the 23mm, longer burst at closer range with only the 12.7mm.
Tried it against players and it doesn't do anything, which is a shame. Only tank I managed to kill was an M3 Stuart.
