I'm embarrassed to say how long it took to implement the basics of a Map class (including Tile class). At least now it's done properly. On the heap, no leaking, great performance and easy to edit.

Fancy lighting is rather easy to do for 2d in Unity. IMO Dungeon of the Endless did a great job. IIRC they had a Unite presentation showing their implementation.

Not him, but a VPS is exactly what you want for tasks like that, though hopefully you'd put it to better use. You can get one for like $3 dollars a month at the lowest tiers. What you wouldn't want is a dedicated server, since it'd be massive overkill and you're talking on the order of $100+ dollars a month.

Amazon is basically a pay-as-you-go cloud hosting service (very similar to a VPS, but tends to be more expensive), with a lot of other features tacked on. I'd be careful of going with them unless you know what you're doing, their payment plans are convoluted as balls.

Tweaked the walk cycle, as well as added animations for stopping on both left and right steps.

The animation for standing back up needs some work, it doesn't look nearly as smooth as the animation for hunching over.
Kickass walk cycle overall, though. I love how each step feels like it's got weight to it instead of him just sliding over the ground.
