I choose life.
enginedev!
i want to die
>>123544928
Why dev an engine when there are so many out there to choose from?
Do most non-pixel art 2D games use Spine animation now or are they still drawn frame by frame?
>>123545137
I think it's mostly "frame by frame" but with a lot of tweening tricks to cut down how much time/effort you have to put in.
I know a lot of those horrid asian shovelware games use it for everything, but it looks awful
>>123545113
Honestly i don't know. I don't even want to make a game or have an idea for a game or even like games. I'm just devving and engine becauserotatedev is my idol and he's an enginedev.
Hmmm.
>>123545240
shouldn't you turn your energies towards web development then
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHyE_wBpdUg
>>123545289
sounds hard and gay
>>123545113
>he's too young to know the other definitions of engine
this thread sucks, go to the other one
keep mothdan/rotate/various meme discussion in this thread, this is the designated shitting thread
also stay in this containment thread progressman & steamchat
this is your thread. it was made for you
Suppose I wrote an entire design document, with gameplay mechanics detailed, an entire story written out, all levels planned, all that.
How hard would it be to find someone to program it and an artist to make it pretty? How much would it cost out of my pocket?
>>123545962
It would be faster and less work to make it yourself.
>>123545962
Your design document will likely be garbage if you don't know programming.
>>123545962
i don't like this hypothetical
>>123545962
How much would it cost for me to pay a carpenter to build me a wooden box?
Is he going to charge me the same for a 4" x 4" balsa wood box as a house shaped like a box with full furnishings?
To answer your question, somewhere between free and several million dollars.
here's my million dollar idea
ftl but you're a pirate ship in 1650

>>123546025
I know programming, but I'm shit at maths and it just frustrates the fuck out of me. I know that no matter how much time I put in, I'd not be able to do a better job than someone who's actually competent.
>>123546091
the boardgame battleship
>>123545962
whats ya email send it here and il tell you my price
>>123546140
>I'm shit at maths and it just frustrates the fuck out of me
Sounds like you don't *really* know programming
>>123546140
just get better
i believe you can
>>123546192
Well, no, I couldn't actually program shit myself that's not basic, but I know the possibilities and limitations.
My point is that I'd happily be a project manager on something but wouldn't know how to get it started.
>>123546281
Better be paying good money then. Working for an incompetent project lead is absolute torture
>>123546387
I know what it is that needs to be done, I just can't do it myself thanks to maths retardation. I don't know why that means I'm incompetent in general.
>>123546604
Game programming has very little to do with math, especially if you're doing a 2D game. If you know addition and subtraction (multiplication and division can come in handy too), you're good to go. You can make platformers with only addition and subtraction.
>>123546767
sort of this, although I ended up needing to ask people for math tips because I had to handle rotations and other weird stuff
>>123546943
Most libraries and engines have methods which do all the math for you, like LookAt(vector) or Mirror(normal, vector)
>>123547009
you are right, after wasting one hour figuring out how sin and cos worked I found out there was a function that already did what I needed
>>123546767
I just can't seem to think logically enough for it. I'll know exactly what I want to do, but when I try to do it things just fall apart.
can I get staff like Unity 2010

write a letter saying that you're joining ISIS and leave your house, get enough money to buy a van and gamedev in your van
