This is what happens when you make plugin emulators. Eventually it becomes such a mess that no one has any idea why specific plugins are good or awful with specific emulators or what the best configurations are.

Well look at the specific github issue. He's offering to do testing for N64 emulators and plugins. That isn't entirely related to his own weird project where he stripped the commented developer info out of random emulators and did little else.

Not anon but...Project 64 is a mess, it'll take years to finally fix itself.
>>
>>123490368
Someone has to do the testing to get it on track and The Turtle is a good candidate since he can't do much else but has the will.
>>
>>123490368
The emulator itself is extremely compatible, but under the hood, it is very ugly. It has all kinds of obscure settings, and the codebase is hard to follow unless you've worked with it for a while.

I just recently found out the only reason Kirby 64's health and power bar even works is because zilmar implemented a Game Setting called Delay DP Interrupt, which somehow makes it work. This is not documented anywhere, and who knows if even he knows that's what fixed Kirby (the bottom bar didn't show up at all in 1.6) Same thing with RE2. Only reason voices work during cutscenes in Project64 2.x is due to a tweak he made in the Fixed Audio Timing some time before its release. Again, not documented anywhere, and given he himself has stated he usually plays with the sound off, there's a good chance he fixed it without noticing.

Mupen64Plus has very few such per-game settings, although it may have to implement a few from Project64 to get over that handful of difficult edge cases.

Only noobs struggle with plugins. Diversity leads to more bugs being found.

How is it a mess?

>>123491484

I don't think it's significantly harder than other codebases.

Voices work fine with Fixed Audio Timing disabled, when using a proper audio plugin. The voice problem is due to inaccurate AI emulation.

Thank you, GPDP :) . This whole time, i thought the kirby issue in certain emulators was a cpu recompiler issue ;/ . Interestingly, health bar works in 1964 1.1, if you don't use a RSP.

It has its advantages and disadvantages compared to vanilla M64P, but SP turning into another Richard42 was kinda expected.
You'll need time and dedication to fix the mess known as N64 emulation and he's already got way too much shit to do.

As shitty as it sounds, the only N64 emu with a realistic future is PJ64, if it ever becomes cross-platform that is.

A shame really, if he had put more work into it M64-libretro could've easily been a big seller for libretro.

I agree that you'll need time and dedication to fix N64 emulation, but I don't think it's a "mess" (at least compared to other systems).
>>
>>123506195
I don't think PJ64 is the only future. MarathonMan might get somewhere with Cen64 if he stops rewriting it every week, or if someone optimizes AngryLion's to a point where it's actually usable as more than just a debugger.

>I don't think PJ64 is the only future. MarathonMan might get somewhere with Cen64
I agree with this. Especially since some PJ64 contributors also help CEN64.

>if he stops rewriting it every week
There is nothing wrong with rewriting, when you find better methods. A good example is CEN64's RSP code. Not only were RSP bugs fixed, it was greatly optimized too.
>>
>>123509005

It suffers from several regressions (check the issue track for examples), doesn't support GlideN64 and doing per-game configurations is a huge pain in the butt.

posted in the last thread but I never got a helpful response, so I'll try again.

I recently got an EZ Flash 4 and I'm trying to run mother 3 and some other games on it, but I get the PSRAM is not enough message. I press select on them and load them to NOR band I'm told they're supposed to then get their own entry in the main folder on the cart, but they don't.
I've been told this could be an issue with my firmware version, but I don't know how I would solve that as I'm obviously very new to this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

>As shitty as it sounds, the only N64 emu with a realistic future is PJ64, if it ever becomes cross-platform that is.
PJ64 is creeping closer to this goal. The basic problem is that m64p's core is kind of a clusterfuck, even RA's version. Because they isolated themselves, m64p sat around stagnating, trying to port themselves to Android better. PJ64 languished for a while, but is now under real, significant development again. It would be nice if more people would contribute to PJ64 and GLideN64, though. Especially with the framebuffer notification support GLideN64 is adding which will make framebuffer support much faster and much more accurate.

>The basic problem is that m64p's core is kind of a clusterfuck, even RA's version.
How so? And I thought RA's version was better. If the main "flaw" is that it doesn't support GlideN64, then who cares :) .

>Because they isolated themselves, m64p sat around stagnating, trying to port themselves to Android better. PJ64 languished for a while, but is now under real, significant development again. It would be nice if more people would contribute to PJ64 and GLideN64, though.
It's too bad Gontez isolated himself. Therefore he will not get the help he needs :) .

What would really be nice is a faster Angrylion plugin. Also I'd like to use a zilmar spec emulator on Linux that's more up to date than Mupen64 0.5.

Don't bother with 3DS emulation. It's not worth it yet.

As for a flashcart, it depends on your firmware. If you manage to get a console on 9.2 or below, you can use a Gateway flashcart. Although you'd also have access to free CFW that would fulfill the same purpose.
If you get one above 9.2, the Sky3DS is your only option. It works for what it is, but online features may result in a console ban if you're using public headers. It's best to buy one 3DS game with online functionality and rip the header from that to use.

I'm pretty new to playing Wii games on Dolphin, how can I set it up to where it takes input from my gamepad and the mouse? I see options for using keyboard+mouse or using the gamepad, but nothing that allows a gamepad+mouse combo. Pic related; I set the controls up to be mostly from the gamepad, with the exception of directions being bound to the mouse, but when I play with just "gamepad" enabled the cursor gets stuck to the middle of the screen preventing me from doing anything, and I can't make it leave unless I switch to keyboard+mouse

>frame skip

The original author hated the idea of arbitrarily skipping frames and disliked how most auto-frameskip implementations are hackfests. The core would need to handle the frameskipping and the frontend would need to signal when a frameskip is need, so libretro would need to be extended to support this.
https://github.com/libretro/libretro-arb/issues/16

>fps target

Because it throttles on audio and does audio rate control to sync to the display refresh rate. Syncing to a frame rate that's not your display refresh rate is not a good idea as that results in stuttering when a frame is dropped or doubled. Any kind of timer based sync is just terrible, don't even bother.

Bit the bullet and bought me a DS4 earlier since it was on sale (with the primary intention of using it with my G2 and a clip on the go).

Also thinking it's time to format and reinstall Windows and I've been pretty excited to get Win 10 on my desktop (and probably do a bit more research on blocking the spy shit).
Curious on how it may or may not fuck with DS4Windows or RetroArch. I see a lot of people bitch about desktop compositing not being switchable but I've never had to deal with that.

Depends, most 3rd party controller have some kind of compatibility mode that makes them recognized as noname dinput controller by your PC in which case SCP and MiJ don't work, there's a way to bypass that but it requires finding a way to brick one of your USB port on purpose with MiJ (basically it won't recognize anything outside of a controller that can be used on a PS3)..

Only controllers I know of that can work out of the box with SCP/MiJ is the Dragon War ones.

>I've been told that the opposite is true.
Glide64 shits itself with RDRAM framebuffer copies. GLideN64 is much faster, and is going to get even faster still once emulator-side framebuffer notification support is added. It's WIP and needs debugging.

>>123630437
>What's ridiculous is the fact that multiple games are slower in LLE with GlideN64 than Angrylion's.
That's due to bugs, not any particular design problem. GLideN64 LLE doesn't even have a functional depth buffer.

>It doesn't help that GlideN64's HLE code is inadequate.
It needs work. But overall it's far cleaner and more accurate than the other plugins such as Rice and Jabo and Glide64. There are a number of bugs that are nothing more than Gonetz refusing to use the hacks he used with Glide64 because they're dirty.
>>
>>123643657

>>
>>123644759
Glide64 also had emulator side framebuffer notification support. GlideN64 is faster thanks to non blocking I/O on framebuffer copies due to using pixel buffer objects. Glide64's wrapper could use the same thing, though a fresh plugin done from scratch would be nice.

Sure the framebuffer code is better, but it inherited bugs from glN64, so I'm not convinced it's the most accurate HLE plugin.

>There are a number of bugs that are nothing more than Gonetz refusing to use the hacks he used with Glide64 because they're dirty.
What is wrong with using hacks? I'd much rather use hacks if it means getting better results. Why is clean code so important? I honestly cannot take any developer serious, when they prioritize clean code over more important things, such as results.

The CPU is not the hard part to emulate, it's the GPU. It's completely different from what the GameCube/Wii had. You need to emulate actual GPU shaders instead of just pipeline configurations.

Why was therandomizer banned from GBATemp?

This is his last blog posts.
So, a while back I had to use care credit during a period of joblessness to pay for a couple of dental crowns, and the credit obviously was able to cover the costs. Well, over time I was able make payments here and there, small, but payments nonetheless. That being said, earlier this year, I lost my job and had to block the loan company from taking money out I didn't have in my bank, and I kept getting more and more statements about how much I owed. Sure enough, I called my bank recently to unblock the loan company since I have a job now, turns out I've been royally screwed. To back up a bit, I was going to pay my payment on Synchrony Bank, who I did the loan through for Care Credit, well, my account was mysteriously not there, so I called them and sure enough, they told me they sold my account to ANOTHER company called Midland Credit, so I call them. Nope, account is in limbo since they transferred it recently (Synchrony Bank), in the end, I have to wait at least two weeks before I can pay off my balance on my loan. My question is, why the hell did they not tell me they were going to transfer it over to Midland Credit? Shouldn't they have at least sent me an email on the 22nd, the day they start the account transfer? To me, that sounds like a very shady business practice, especially when it was done without my consent.

I am very tempted to not pay my loan for some time now, just out of spite for what they did without my consent. Or, even better, spend the $200 or so I was gonna pay for the late payment for a 3DS XL instead. Okay not really, but you see where I'm coming from. How can I be expected to make payment if my account is in limbo?:glare: What do you guys suggest? Oh and once I get this paid off, I'm never taking out a bloody loan again.

I need help, or rather, I need to vent, given my recent reactions to certain people on other locations (or other forums not here, but elsewhere), it's evident that I've issues with controlling my anger. I obviously don't want to get more personal, however, I need to get this off of my chest; there was an incident on another forum where...I didn't realize that someone's post was clearly facetious and I lost my temper, thinking he was legitimately being condescending to the OP of that thread. Suffice to say, things got ugly and I used language that I feel horrible for using. Obviously, I can't take it back, I didn't handle the way an exemplary adult my age should, but the thread devolved for a time, it's back to normal now. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is why I'm so quick to anger whenever I see certain posts, what triggers them, why I let things get the better of me, and so on. So that thread was just an example, but there other certain triggers that do it for me, unfortunately, and by me saying this, I can assume that many will lose respect for me for being so open about this issue I have. I'm clearly not as positive as I could be, nor do I see the big picture, i.e. when someone has a certain bias or has an opinion, they're neither right nor wrong necessarily, they're using their rights to express their thoughts and feelings, and I need to respect that. I sometimes wonder what's wrong with me and why I either overreact or just use said vile language. I know people swear casually and I've no problem with that at all, my problem is I go beyond that in heated discussions and it's something I feel absolutely horrible doing.

I know I just made a blog entry not too long ago, but I'm at a loss as far as making amends with someone I deeply offended two months ago. It hurts, a lot, and I wish I never said those horrific things to this person's friend. Here's the lowdown, there were two friends, one I knew and met personally, and the other I didn't know all that well, both are fox owners. The one I didn't know well unfriends me because, well, probably to purge her list to only people she knows, I took it personally as usual, go fig, so I emailed her, calling her out. It was not a good day, very stressed out, but I don't remember why. I used language I rarely used against people I know. Well, it went to hell in a hand basket, she was rightfully livid, threatened to press charges if I emailed her again and I thought that was the end, so I dropped it. Oh no, that wasn't the end, she not only posted the private email conversation on Facebook, but this alienated a couple of other people I knew, this leads me to the other fox owner I was friends with. She PMs me, tells me that she found out what I told her other friend via email, is clearly disappointed at my severe negativity and doesn't want said negativity and unfriends me as well. Now, I obviously deeply regret saying those horrifically trenchant things. She hasn't blocked me, surprisingly, and even talked to me a couple of times since, but only small talk; at this point, I don't know what to do, I want to make amends, I don't like leaving these things unresolved and alone to fester only for it to get worse and worse.

The fact I alienated and deeply offended another unknowingly tears me up inside, I'm normally not like this. I attempted to send an apology a while back, a sincere but short one, and so far, no response from her, but not blocked either. I'm getting mixed signals from this, if she would have blocked me, she would have done so by now, but hasn't, not that I'm complaining. I don't know if I should keep waiting, send her an apology card with some flowers, publicly apologize for calling the original member out, I'm so conflicted.

To sum up, I don't know why I did what I did, why I can't seem to make amends, and why I have a hard time letting it go and forgiving myself for having used such fierceness in my email. :( Sometimes, like now, I'm reading her posts, my close fox owner friend I alienated, and it hurts, it makes me want to cry at the thought I may never be able to speak to her, much less see her ever again :( I really don't know what to do...
