You know what would have made shit like this better? If certain attributes, when combined, created a new descriptive title. Like "targeting boosted" and "automatic" created "storming", or something. You can still see what the specific attributes are on inspect. Every damn piece of equipment by the end of the game has a name a yard long with tiny writing which fails to communicate how impressive it's supposed to be.

That's the reason I went along with it, anyway, when I believed the Institute were mildly bad guys and also terminally retarded and unfixable. Once you get past the point of no return (fighting the Brotherhood at Mass Fusion), more information is revealed, you can find some holotapes and terminals around the facility and later after finishing the questline there's quests that become available that completely changed my mind on the Institute, however.
Not to spoil too much, butthe gen 1 synth that massacred Diamond City was malfunctioning, not deployed for that purpose, and every evil the Institute has been either guilty of or wrongly accused of since then can be traced back to that and the way they had to operate after that (and also to autism among their ranks). Also synths were never intended to fully replace humans, and Shaun's terminal reveals that he's just as squeamish as the Brotherhood about "hideous amalgamations of metal and flesh" or whatever, which is why he discontinued the cybernetics project; The goal of the Institute is to preserve humanity, at least a small pocket of it, and allow it to flourish long into the future, and synths, machines that can do the dangerous or tedious jobs humans would have to otherwise, are part of how they hope to achieve that.
And beyond that,there's quests near the end of the game/after completing it that allow you to act in your capacity as director to begin turning the Institute around, and post-game Piper even points out in her rag that the Institute's new management (you) might lead it down a much brighter, less sinister path than it has taken in the past. You can play the Institute as a total dickbag or as a visionary reforming it under your direction, it's one of the few places in the game where I've seen that the dialogue choices presented to you actually matter.

I wouldn't, fortunately part of the Institute questline isgiving a big "we come in peace" speech over the radio and relaying undisguised gen 1 synths to the surface to walk along people and get them used to the idea that the Institute is among them and also not trying to kill them.The reason people were being replaced by synths was so the Institute could survey or conduct research on the surface, despite people being scared shitless of the Institute after the Broken Mask incident. If synths are normalised on the surface there's absolutely no reason for that to continue to be done. With the new equivalent of the CPG under control of the Institute there's no risk that they'll wipe the Institute out and thus no reason to destroy them either.

Is FO3 shorter compared to NV? I played Vegas first and am playing through 3 now, and it feels like I've gotten to the final quest a lot faster than I did in NV. I had to google and double check if this was really the "no turning back this is the final quest" thing.

anon is wrong, the "planters" you get from magazines are actually decorative plants. You can't get planters that you can actually plant crops in at all, for...some reason. Even though that already exists in the game (see: Graygarden).

A virtual drive using RAM, it has better access time than an SSD. The only downside is it's volatile memory and is wiped every time you shut down the computer. FO4 would require 32GB of RAM or more because it's like 24GB.
I was going to say an SSD is better, but I did a webcrawler search, found a Leddit thread, and it turns out an SSD might not even make a difference.
