Do the Minutemen quests actually get interesting? I like the idea of them but I find it hard to actually side with them because you do fuck-all but clear out their worthless settlements. Makes it seem pretty plain.

I still have no idea what The Institute's plan was after completing this game. From what I gather it's just:

There's no option to ask Shaun about what his long-term vision for the institute is, or talk to the division heads about what they want. You can't even ask anyone about the synth they sent to kill everyone at that meeting of commonwealth factions. It sounds like a pretty fucking major event, but outside of your dialogue with Valentine, it's never mentioned.
Also, they really dropped the ball when it comes to how your companions react to the factions you're helping. Deacon spills his guts to you and tells you that you're his only friend, but if you pursue the brotherhood ending he just becomes another target to kill. No dialogue, nothing. If Bethesda were going for >le ebin emotional cinematic moments, that would've been a prime opportunity right there.
I have the mods checked in my Plugins list in NMM, but whenever I start the game, they disable themselves.

The Institute is worse than the Legion. It's like multiple people wrote Fallout 4's story and had no contact with each other.

What the spookiest place in the Commonwealth? So far, the Dunwich quarry was pretty spooky, especially reading the terminals, but the building where you get the Silver Shroud outfit/hat probably had me sweating the most.
brotherhood quest spoilers aheadfound out the truth about Dance. This whole dialog just seems fucking strange. can I shoot the fucker instead of somehow convincing him to let dance live? i mean his speech when we met him outside was really well done, but then the whole "well we'll pretend he is dead" is just so bullshit it can't be cannon. i want to just put a bullet in his head when he threatens to kill dance. Is this a possibility??
Is building the teleporter the point where I'm choosing a faction for the ending? Or can I still complete quests for the others?
Basically, I'm trying to get as far into the game as I can to create a backup save to see the different endings without having to replay the entire game.

I'm playing as a war veteran who's a loving father and husband to a lawyer. Both had a child but the child got kidnapped and his wife was murdered while in the vault. He's an agreeable guy but he hates newspapers and can be sarcastic at times.

How can people argue that synths aren't good for rebuilding humanity? Can you imagine what a completely dedicated and nearly infinite workforce of things with the exact same capabilities of humans, maybe even better, that don't need to be payed, can't stray from their programming and can't be phased emotionally would be like? EVERYTHING the brotherhood uses is dangerous. They use bombs, nukes, big ass guns, power suits, everything. But their whole idea is responsible and lawful use of technology. They would probably not use gen 3 synths as that shit's fucking retarded and useless to them, but gen 1s and 2s would be hella useful. Not to mention other advancements made by the institute that aren't synth related.

Imagine a game where you could use your position in the railroad and offer to help Danse escape the BoS after he turns synth, convincing him that he can do good with his life without the brotherhood.
Or convincing deacon that the railroad has become too extreme and that he should ditch them, since he has a conversation with you where he advises you to look at what a group asks you to do, not what they say they're about.
Imagine Macready actually leaving to be a father to his son once he finds the cure instead of staying to slum it with the SS for no reason.
Imagine Curie having doubts about whatever faction you side with (the institute's treatment of synths, the Brotherhood's synth genocide, the Railroad's destruction of the institute as a place of science) and you discussing the various factions with her.
Imagine Strong actually developing as a character and learning just a bit of civility and kindness (or you discouraging that and him becoming an
omnicidal berserker loyal only to you).
Imagine Preston taking over the minutemen once it becomes clear you care more about whatever faction you're about to take over the commonwealth with, and you either convince him to either ally with you, or at least stand down, else he and the minutemen become hostile to your faction.
Imagine Hancock debating whether to focus his energy as mayor on making goodneighbor a welcoming place of refuge with him gently guiding the town, or taking full control and expanding aggressively so he can actually stand up to injustice in the commonwealth.
Imagine being able to convince Cait that living a short, wild life full of violence and drugs is much more worth it than dying from some flu when you're 70.
Imagine X6 having a little characterization. I dunno, maybe spending time with you instead of going from task to task for the institute teaches him to be human. Not much to go on here.

Can you kill Maxson as he's about to execute Danse? I tried and he seemed to become unkillable until he killed Danse.
It seems like it's hard to get a satisfactory resolution if you want to Danse to live (he's a useful guy and his death would be a waste) but aren't planning to side with the Brotherhood. Talking Maxson out of it seems unrealistic and cheap.

Got a hundred hours in, play whenever I'm not in /fog/ because NEET. Never heard of either of them. So... literally WHO?
Finally ended it after 67 hours and level 48. I'd give it a 7.5/10 I think.
Major complaints would be voice acting and dialogue was pretty bad. Lack of interesting discoveries around the wasteland, though I didn't find everything. Not too many unique/interesting side quests either. Lastly, the rpg elements weren't very prominent I think. Kind of felt like I was playing mass effect. Of course all the little shitty glitches were there, but they always are so whatever, they didn't really stop me from enjoying the game.
It was overall fun, though. Just have to wait for some good mods now.

-Follow her advice and seek work in the Crimson Caravan.
-Complete a Crimson Caravan quest to prove you are reliable, get the quest to buy Cass' caravan.
-Convince her by two speech checks (50 and 75) or by a barter check plus 750 caps or by a barter check plus 12 bottle of whiskey or by killing Ranger Jackson in a stealthy manner
Then you can convince her to join you if you have Good or Neutral karma and you can do her companion quest.
To get Boone as a companion you need to talk to him in his night-shift, find out what happened to his wife, bring the culprit to the front of the Dino so Boone will kill him/her. Then you can recruit Boone.
And for Boone to spill his backstory you must have him as an active companion in some places with some conversations or actions you do (which the game doesn't tell you), then Boone will comment about it and you can ask him further, when you do this with five different triggers (each trigger triggers progress his trust in you), you can do his companion quest.
With Veronica you can get locked out to get her as a companion if you say that you don't like the BoS. If you choose the other options that are not "dislike the BoS" then she will join you and she will say that she was BoS and wanted to know your feelings about them.
With Raul you also need three different unmarked triggers with specific conversations with specific characters. Each trigger will make him talk about his story more with you. And to get him to join you, you need to rescue him from Black Mountain.
With Arcade, you need five triggers so he reminisces his time with the Enclave, little by little you gain his trust and only then AND after you've progressed the main story line to a point he will tell you about it.

I liked Most of the NV companions more and 4 does it better because the companions aren't all Side quests. I mean they actually throw a few into the main story. Which makes them feel actually important. Don't think a single companion at all had anything to do with the story. Boone was the closest, and still irellevant.
Then again, no Companion Resolution in the end scroll is a huge hit.

Well Virgil put an end to the FEV testing, which began as research into how they could modify Shauns DNA into any other person's DNA to make synth copies or custom synths. They hadn't actually learned anything new in over a decade but Shaun demanded the experiments continue because he wanted more synth spies for whatever reason. With Shaun dead and the SS firmly as the head of the Institute after you make an example of those two retarded rebels you could theoretically steer the Institute in any direction you choose.

If semi-automatic, the Institute rifle has a higher rate of fire. It also weighs less than the laser rifle. However, for these two small changes, the Inst. rifle also has a lower magazine size and lower damage. Without that damage mod, it's a piece of junk and it's silly that the institute chooses to use their inferior weapon.
How realistic would a wave survival mod be? Like something placable in settlements that would begin spawning enemies that get stronger with each wave/randomize and eventually turn into legendaries? Like just a full on invasion/war but in waves until you either turn it off, die or I guess set a limit/end wave?
