Bravo, Bethesda. So I either skip an entire location and never interact with 4-6 named NPCs or it's hard-coded that my character is willing toassault and kill people because of greed. I would have expected an option to quit at least the points above.
It's a shame as after ~60 hours I finally found a quest what contained alternative ways to reach objectives and your decisions slightly mattered later. Why Bethesda had to fuck up the essence of it by unnecessarily shoving down their concept on the players' throat?

While in general I hate the radiant quests, a few have taken me to places I hadn't yet explored which made them sort of good. But I think rather than all this radiant quest bullshit, they should have just made more unmarked quests or more "guided" quests for locations that take you to terminals.

Survival is pretty bullet-spongey desu but there are a few options.
If you don't want to go full-meme and pick up a Gauss Rifle then upgrading a Hunting Rifle with a .50 cal receiver is pretty good in the "traditional" sniper-rifle sense, especially if you get a legendary one with + damage, + armor penetration or of course double-damage when full health.

The premise of my starlight drive-in is that there is a private vault, equipped with a GECK under the drive-in and they are currently in a pilot program for colonizing the wastes (hence they had materials to build, similar to Vault City).
So I keep running into Art in the wasteland. It's happened twice, where it's this guy and his twin/synth just shooting the shit out of each other and then after one dies the survivor just says he doesn't want to talk. Is this supposed to be a thing or just a random event?

Once the tools come out, I hope to see a mod that does 3 things.
1. Add an armor mod for every armor piece that makes it invisible when applied (call it concealed armor or something). So you can choose which armor pieces get displayed.
2. Turn all full body outfits into underarmors like the vault suit so pieces can be put on top of them.
3. Rebalance the outfits to match the new system.
So if you have an armor piece that doesn't clip with your outfit you can leave it alone. If it does clip you can make it invisible and say it's concealed under the outfit. Or if you don't care about being realistic you can just make all the pieces invisible so you can look better.
Oh and one last thing
4. Add armor mods to outfits other than the vault suit.
It's like they wanted me to wear that thing the whole fucking game.
Maybe I take this thing a bit too seriously, but I have been avoiding the main quest because I have to choose which faction I join. I am still not sure who to side with. Who would you recommend? I think I will go with the Institute, since they are the bright future - on the other hands ... they are assholes to those poor synths. Which faction has the best quests or rewards??

Different anon, but I think my game is broken desu. Loaded up quite a few mods, but for survival difficulty, I only had player damage put back to normal (1x) instead of survival's default (0.5x).
I'm level 35 but seems like I'm one-shotting people left and right with my .50 cal two-shot sniper.
Probably helped that I have top level ninja and level 4 marksman, but even with no stealth, most enemies still die with 1-3 shots with the rifle.
I've also had unique laser rifles from the BoS killing most enemies under 5 hits.
I also just one shot hit deathclaw last night with a plasma rifle...
Maybe I jneed to restart the game? It seems very off.

Tanks, Power armor was designed to pack anti-tank levels of firepower in a more nimble (But slower overland) package.

Honestly, the combination of Sneak attacks + Weapon Damage skills + Legendary mods pretty much breaks the damage curve of the game no matter what difficulty you're playing at.
Once you're 3 Ninja + fully modded legendary weapon + appropriate skills you're just blowing shit away assuming you're not playing 10mm only play-through or something.
1x player damage on Survival is how I play and I think it's probably the best balance of not making early-mid game tedious while still being enough of a challenge thanks to how hard some enemies hit.
This is just my opinion but I think the biggest offender here is the two-shot Legendary mod.
It's 100% better than pretty much every other mod you could have with the exception of niche' stuff like Bleed / Explosive shotguns.
It has an accuracy penalty attached to it - but this seems to only effect hip-fire accuracy and shotgun spread in any significant way. Every other two-shot weapon turns into a double-damage version of its regular self since the second shot never misses while ADS or VATS.
Before you start messing with your mods again, just try playing with a non-two-shot weapons only for a bit - their damage feels a lot more reasonable.

The advantage of this idea is that it allows you to wear whatever outfit you find aesthetically pleasing without sacrificing defense. The defense comes primarily from the armor pieces which you can make invisible. And it makes all outfits usable since they no longer block armor slots.
By balancing I mean you need to take things like the brotherhood initiate armor or whatever it's called which gives like 40 defense and lower it down to nearer the level of road leathers or the vault suit.
And yeah, I know 1/3 of the idea has already been made. But without the balancing it's overpowered and without the invisible armor pieces it's a clipping nightmare.

It doesn't work because heavy enemies aren't balanced for it. It works in STALKER where bandits can be one shot but your burers, chimeras, giants, etc. are still beefy. Heavy enemies get right fucked on 3x damage, they aren't aggressive or smart enough to take advantage of your figuratively low hp.

Lorewise Minutemen is the only faction that isn't Just Wrong, and the closest any comes to being right.
Rewardswise, minutemen provide huge nuclear bombardments anywhere in the map (if you put in the time to build artilleries) and small armies you can summon at a minute's notice (not actually that useful, since they really take about thirty seconds to arrive and the fighting is usually almost over by then), but you get both of those early on and I believe get to keep them even after siding with another faction.
Institute provides synth relay grenades. Think summons from Elder Scrolls but you can have more than one or two of them. Throw one down and it teleports a mk1 synth to that location to fight for you (but if you become an enemy of the institute it'll turn on you I believe). Institute also provides a pretty spiffy x-01 paintjob, clean white with the Institute emblem on the shoulder.
Brotherhood provides vertibird support. Think rideable dragons from the Dragonborn DLC- Neat the first time you use it but pretty useless and pointless unless you're doing a no fast travel thing, so you end up never using it. Also a nice t-60 sentinel paintjob.
Railroad gives you ballistic weave, turning certain clothing into high-class armour, a nice pistol and I think an armour paint but I'm not sure for what suit, and the first two I'm pretty sure you get before the point of no return (I never bothered, myself).

I am actually really fond of the how the Minutemen progressed.
Weak and decentralized may be the case to begin with but if you've beefed up enough settlements and recruit all the non-generic NPC's you can to the Minutemen there honestly comes a point where you realize how influential you probably are.
A pretty hefty amount of well-defended settlements connected by trade routes and supply lines seems like a pretty decent organisation in the Commonwealth to me.
You have to remember how the Minutemen is basically the player character rebuilding a connection between the ordinary people of the Commonwealth from the ground up.
More-so than in any other Fallout so far the Commonwealth is split and divided by the presence of the "big-bad" faction.
The Institute might not be straight-up raiding shit in the traditional sense as much as say - The Legion but damn if you can't see how fucked up they've made the Commonwealth just by being there.
A lack of trust and empathy everywhere, kidnappings, disappearances, random Synth raids.
The last time the people of the Commonwealth decided to try banding together and forming a community the Institute fucked it up - the Minutemen actually make that shit happen in the end.

Melee starts out pretty rough but it gets much better once you get Blitz & invest in the Str 2 perk. Early game will be a challenge though, you'll have to at least carry a sidearm that you use situationally.
One major issue with melee in this game is that your attacks don't have nearly as big of an area of effect as they did in previous fallout games so it's a big adjustment. You need to be standing pretty close for your melee hits to land outside of VATS.
On the plus side, there are a lot of really good VATS animations for melee kills that are very satisfying.

Settlement building controls like shit and you can only gain new settlements by doing painfully repetitive generic quests
I wanted to join the Minutemen at first but then i realized the pain it would bring me and joined the Railroad instead - that Faction has way too many repetitive quests too unfortunately but they don't feel as essential as the Minutemen ones at least

Not a mean enough gunslinger to take on a NCR Vet. The top of the Legion, NCR's number one enemy, didn't think anyone could kill an NCR Vet. in one on one combat. Kelogg is a good gunslinger, but NCR Vet. Rangers generally don't do 'gunslinging' more so than just making your head look like a dropped melon from two miles away with a .50 round.
