If I'm going to be a wizard, I want to be a wizard.
Fireball and larger fireball doesn't cut it for me. I want to command chairs to do my bidding, melt enemy gear, turn stuff into other stuff and all that wizard shit.

That being said, designing your combat-system around a base set of spells, and then presenting the special shit as an option on top of that doesn't seem like a bad idea.

>>122586657
honestly though, i do know a chinese guy who buys and sells model trains. he sells them from $800-2500 and makes a good 25% profit off each and travels the world.

maybe i should do that instead of making games

>>
>>122586764
my biggest concern with this game is making something that's immediately engaging so that people play beyond the first 2 minutes. it's a hard thing to do unless you make a fast action game (like cavern kings), so i'm kind of wondering if i should make another game i have in the back of my head and hold off on this current project

either way i've got no expectation of making cash. i just want the satisfaction of knowing people enjoy something i made

>being ashamed of 4chan.

I want to make a great game partly because I think the community here is so much better than other places.

Sure there's a lot of people that stir up trouble and might make my game look bad but out of the people I've actually talked to here the vast majority are honest and at some level make an effort to think for themselves.

Twitter and reddit stem honest discussion because of appearances.

Do you have everyone really into the project (even though i reads its a school project and probably for a grade)? or do you you have guys slipping by doing the bare minimum while you have to get another guy to do that share of work?

also i guess you run the 'team"? What is that like?

- That's not what a skull looks like.
- His torso looks flat as cardboard.
- I can't tell what that object to the right of his head is meant to be, but I suppose that's not a big concern if it's a recognizable attribute anyways. The outlines on it are too thick.
- The door is outlined while the rest of the background is not. Furthermore its outline is thicker than the outline of the foreground character, which it definitely shouldn't be.
- I can't tell why the ceiling seems to suddenly bend behind the character. If that's meant to be a hallway then that contradicts with the location of the door and you should change the shade of the walls next to it to indicate it better.

I'm making the much game and am making decent progress. I mainly see this as a disposable learning project.

I don't really like action games which is why I didn't make pong. I'll probably make chess or something after this to learn how to use 2d graphics.

Console based UIs are pretty hard though. I hope I have a short demo available in like 2 months.

>>122589497
I will after this demo is done. I want to get good at making turn based RPGs quickly so I can make lots of different types.

You have a very open interpretation of "pretty close," I'd say it just looks sufficiently similar to make out that it's meant to be a skull.

Fish-eye lenses don't cause sudden ninety degree corners. I was talking about the two sharp angles in the ceiling just next to the skull.

>teams this large is uncommon around here
At uni I'm actually in one of the smaller teams, teams here are normally around 13 people, some of them even have more than 15

>what your other team members are like in terms of contribution
I know the artists and the programmers from past years, I expect them to do well and the more I work on the level creation, the more they get motivated to work on their areas. I just met the animators this year but they seem competent enough, right now it's hard to see how much they are "into" the project but I don't expect any major drama with that, we still have a lot of time (4-5 months).

>Do you have everyone really into the project (even though i reads its a school project and probably for a grade)?
Here in this uni, the group project assignment is one of the less important areas of the career, you can pass having something barely playable (really I've seen past projects and almost all of them are awful and broken as hell). Almost all the team has already experience making games in Unreal (me included) and we (or at least me lmao) are aiming for something that can be developed later on. For the uni project it will be just one level, which is the one playable in the demo but the full game would be about going to different simulated worlds with different settings and themes, kinda like Demon's Souls or Kingdom Hearts.
Also, the harder you work on the game, the better it will look like in your portfolio. And we want to have a very pretty portfolio.

>also i guess you run the 'team"? What is that like?
I don't really run the team, not officially at least. I'm the ideaguy and the keeper of peace when there is drama, I also give orders here and there, write some documents and I try to keep the morale up to get things working as soon as possible. It feels just like doing the right thing.

Try moving your starting point to x = 1 000 000 and you'll find out what floating point errors mean.

Positions stop being precise because the precision of the data type that describes said position grows larger than a pixel value on the screen.

There's several work-arounds so don't worry though.

There's only a certain amount of space in which to store the significant digits, which means that there's a limited range of values that can be represented, and as you go to extremes the digits you need before the decimal point start eating up the digits available after the decimal point, and you lose precision.

Floating point numbers are stored in much the same manner as a number expressed with scientific notation.
>n = mantissa * base^exponent
The mantissa and exponent themselves, of course, have a limited range of "decimal places" because there isn't infinite space for them (floating point numbers are expressed using base-2, so they're not really decimal but you get the idea).

So while you may be able to express a huge number using fairly imprecise components:
>1,000,000,000 = 1.000 * 10^9
The next representable number is quite a ways off.
>1,001,000,000 = 1.001 * 10^9
Now do the same for a small number:
>1,000 = 1.000 * 10^3
>1,001 = 1.001 * 10^3
And the value itself is much more precise.

>>
>>122595610
You can probably churn out something decent-sounding with just the latter.

>>
Weebs are a destructive force in general, they can't harbor anything good amongst themselves. If someone in /a/ for instance starts making a game, that person is fucked because weebs are pent up with anxiety and self-hate and don't want anyone to be anything but an impotent neet weeb like they are. That's why you see weebs in agdg acting the way they do (as well as the resident mental case). The same can be said for r9k or /v/, they don't want anyone to rise above their shit status on 4chan or in life.
So it's fun to watch people like googum shitpost anime and try pandering to weebs believing he was going to build some kind of support or fanbase from 4chan only to wind up being shit talked into the dirt and crying to other devs about his lack of support on twitter.
Those who learn from the mistakes of others will prosper.

On that note, if you really think smearing your face all over agdg or 4chan will get you fans or support you're lying to yourself. It doesn't matter how big a weeb you think you are, that's not impressing anyone, and if you think you're some kind of teen magazine heart throb who everyone really adores and thinks is "cute" you're in for a surprise, because 95% of 4chan is male and you were getting trolled the whole time.
Those who learn from the mistakes of others will prosper.
Don't pander to weebs thinking it will get you anywhere, don't kid yourself that you're some qt-pa2t who is going to be e-famous when you've done nothing but build negative karma for yourself and are wallowing in the lowest rungs of 4chan, and don't fuck with people who are legitimately smarter than you and have more supporters outside of the weebsphere.

This sort of thing is why people should be identified by their work, not by a name or by their opinions. In the off chance that I ever get to a point where I'm selling a game, I won't associate my real self with it, at least for a while. I'll probably just stick to a company name or whatever. But you'll inevitably be ridiculed by one group or another for something your game does or doesn't have (referring to cultural stuff, not legitimate criticisms), and it seems like it'd be much easier to clam up if you're just a company name and nobody knows who you are. The absolute last thing I'd want is to be involved with that GG stuff on either side, that's just asking for trouble.

They might have ruined their reputation but that doesn't mean they stopped coming here or left the internet, cmon now. I bet even Phil Fish is still trolling around with a psuedonym. The difference is he has enough money that it doesn't qualify as shooting himself in the foot. That's the real lesson. Don't ruin your reputation until you're at least somewhat successful.

Should devs samefag about their games?

Theres practically no way to know, so we have to assume SOME devs are, and if SOME devs are, the only way to keep it equal is for all devs to do it. Plus, anon will already think you're samefagging, so why not at least benefit from it?

Being able to navigate a situation like GG properly is the ultimate test in how you can manage people online without damaging your reputation. If you can't imagine how you'd deal with it (assuming you're thrown on either side of the debate initially) then you're just not Internet-literate enough to be able to deal with customers online and you should get someone to do PR for you, because eventually you'll fuck up.

>Reputation doesn't matter.
If your reputation is bad enough and there's enough evidence of it then yeah it does matter. The internet is big but not big enough for you to run and hide from shit tied to your name. So don't burn bridges until you've actually built proper support for yourself or have made it.
>So what some retards from /agdg/ or 4chan will shitpost about you forever.
If they mention your name can people easily look it up and find you doing or saying embarrassing things? Then it matters.
>There's plenty of people on tumblr and reddit left!
Again the internet is big but not that big. If you ruin your reputation as a dev all it takes is one person who has proof from 4chan to follow you there and you're in hot water again.

I think yanderedev is an interesting case because he was a tripfag or something who constantly posted embarrassing stuff on 4chan and when everyone found out he was also yanderedev they assumed they could boil him alive, but he already had too many supporters at that point, much to their chagrin. If you mention him on /v/ you will see the old angry mob that believed they could kill him still gnashing their teeth because he has millions of followers now who couldn't care less about /v/ drama. But if he hadn't built those supporters in time or before he was found out, who knows what would have happened.
Posts like pic related would have been snuffed out by dozens of members saying
>go away we hate you
Instead of
>you are awesome yanderedev fuck that guy you sure showed him
>>
>>122599310
>Should devs samefag about their games?
More than a few have already been caught doing it and that's not the thing that hurt their reputation. Just a mild embarrassment.
One in particular used to samefag every progress post of his to the point of absurdity but he has been caught up in many more embarrassing things than that by now.

Yes except 7 times instead of just 1 or 2.
>Why should anyone care.
Nobody really does. It's just seen as fabricating imaginary support which is more a way for a dev to deceive themselves than anyone else. When push comes to shove they will be shown to have less than half the number of supporters they claimed to have by samefagging. In some cases they're shown to have less than 1/4.

Okay, /v/. If you've been a retard on here or built up genuine hate from the community and there's proof of it then you deserve what comes to you when you try being bigger than your britches in the future. You can try to act all proud of yourself for it or declare that it doesn't matter all you want. You better have built a genuine support base, though.
>>
>>122600652
idk, i wasn't here since the start but it's what i know and i might be wrong, the point is that the weebs think they can do what they want just because 4chan was originally made for anime and the "normalfags" insulting them and making an stupid fight out of nothing

So I wrote bitmap font system on top of SFML. It's working fine except for a small issue - texture bleeding. I figured it could be due to floating points so I overrode position methods to round the positions (pic related). And it has helped a bit (I had two very noticable and reproducible bleeding in my menu, with this rounding it goes away and I switched the code back and forth a few times to confirm). However I still get some bleeding with other labels (for instance I have cursor subtitle which bleeds as you move it). I tried disabling texture smoothing afterwards but that didn't help. The bleeding occurs only when moving the text object on the y axis. Any ideas what else could it be?

I skip all the namefagging bullshit, social drama, IRL faggotry, etc. I'm here for the occasional progress and some ontopic discussion. I've posted in these threads about 10 - 20 times total.

Eliminated "wall runs", replaced with "wall kicks" (a la Warframe, GunZ 2, and probably a bunch more)

When you latch onto a wall, instead of running, you slide (the trajectory is almost identical to what it was before, though there's a LITTLE bit of lateral friction now to make the curvature feel better when there's no running animation to suggest continual momentum)

Pressing jump (or dodge, as before, though jump is more convenient and intuitive) you'll kick off the wall. Kick anims alternate legs to sort-of-suggest running. This is just about the same as "bumping" wallruns before, really.

Where things change is at Armor Power 5, when your input direction goes from "deciding whether to run forward or backward" to "deciding which way to run" and you can control the amount of verticality, including just perpetually run-kicking straight up the wall vertically. More to the point, you can choose any angle in between (obviously not down, as holding away from the wall makes your "kick" into the old-fashioned wall jump) and scale the wall totally freely, which feels good.

Also, because the new run poses support facing the wall, you now have 360-degree aim while wallrunning; no more yaw-fighting when you aimed into the wall.

Crouching still triggers the old-style away-facing wall slide for the latch, and it's also used when wall kicking in 2D.

So my game is a top-down shooter that takes place 100 years from now where humanity is splicing animal DNA with its own genes to create more powerful humans. This has resulted in more powerful terrorist organizations combining their resources to build armies of insurgents who can transform from humans to powerful lizardmen at will. This makes them hard to detect in public and they have already infiltrated key areas of the free world.

The UN has put together a special task force to combat this growing threat, but instead of using cold-blooded lizards, they're using dogs (man's best friend) and wolves (man's best ally). Small teams of humans who can transform into powerful humanoid dogs/wolves are being deployed to these key areas.

Now, the thing is that this transformation technology, be them lizard-based DNA or dog-based DNA, all of it only works on female humans, not male humans. So all the transforming characters in the game are female.

Now, I know how AGDG is, you guys are going to shit all over this. I get it. Fair enough. But that's not why I'm telling you this. I'm not here for advice on the plot or quality of the story for the game.

I'm here to ask this question:

Now that you know the background of my game, and that this game lets you play as the 'dog' side of the conflict, would I still be labeled as misogynist if I called my game, 'Battle Bitches'? Should I call it something like 'Attack Dogs' instead? (Doesn't sound as catchy)

was gone for a long time

things have been good

C game with lua scripting

logic operates on a fixed timestep of 60 ticks per second

update interpolates position to refresh rate of monitor

HOWEVER,

Textures loaded on the lua end are fucked up (might explain problem in this post or next if I need to)

When I try to check for collision with the world, I noticed some of the entities stop working; and it's only when I use the for statement to check the different tiles (regardless the number of tiles I check for in the for statement).

Here's some more information about my game in the order which the game runs:

1. game initializes input library
2. initializes scripting end
3. game loop has the logic loop and the draw loop (the former inside the game loop, the latter just inside the game loop)
4. logic loop does the following: 1. processes level and entities to internal structs, internal entities are then passed to the lua end as metatables; 2. handles the update functions of the entities on the lua end
5. draw loop draws the level tiles internally, calls the draw functions of the entities on the lua end
6. game ends

I have a feeling I am messing up hard somewhere in this. Maybe it's because i'm trying to have one end communicate with another within the confines of the logic loop. I need to go back to the drawing board, and figure out how to put the level on the lua side as well (it's a tile based map and I use expat to parse it). As for the textures, it might be because I have a struct array called GAMETEXTURE[256] and in each of those is an SDL_Texture, C might not like that shit.

tl;dr game is fucked somewhere, enjoy the image

any ideas?
>>
>>122616785
Nothing sounds terribly wrong. I doubt Lua itself has anything to do with your messed up textures or tile problems.

the loop is to go through the tiles, where it checks for tile[z], being

Ah, there's your problem. It should be

I made the C99 comment because you seem to be declaring all variables at the top of your function. Also it's more common to use a naming convention like i, j, k, ... for iterator variables.

Without any "meat" to it? The only possible explanation I can think of is that the loop (done for all entities), even not doing anything, is adding a significant amount of running time and somehow desynchronizing your logic across multiple threads. But that seems highly unlikely.

>>
>>122622205
All I mean is this.

You currently have this:
C:
engine subsystems
Lua:
entity management
logic

What you should (probably) be doing is this:
C:
engine subsystems
entity management
Lua:
logic

It's not too difficult, just have some way for each entity (or entity prototype, whatever) to reference its own update and draw functions. You could even design it such that a given entity could either be implemented in C or in Lua and the system would accept both.

the entity management part is where I get hung up, because I don't know how to communicate from C to Lua from that stage

does that mean an individual state for each entity? thats probably resource intensive
>>
>>122623265
>does that mean an individual state for each entity?
No, of course not. Just references to its methods and a table containing its data, which of course gets passed as the first argument to its methods. You can use the built-in registry table for stuff like that.
>>
>>122622881
What is the point of the interviewer putting in the skipped questions with the comment "skip" besides clickbait?
>>
>>122623557

Well, to me it just sounds like you're not skilled enough in programming to undertake building your own engine in C that's scripted in Lua. There aren't any tutorials for that for you to follow along with or people willing to coach you through the whole process, you have to just figure it out for yourself.
>>

The dev behind one of the hottest indie games of the year specifically refusing to take an anti-bigot stance on contemporary gender issues is more controversial than what he otherwise could have said
>>
>>122623902
Well, I basically learned everything I know about stuff like engine architecture and Lua integration by just reading tons of material (articles, books, questions on Stack Overflow, etc.) about the subjects in general, as well as actually programming using what I've learned, in my spare time over the course of what I guess is a few years now.

It does not matter what art style you're using as long as it looks good and functions with whatever genre of game you're making. As long as the player does not get confused or lost because of the art style then it's fine.

No one plays a game because it has good code. I've heard the cave story code described as an ungodly labyrinth.

Niche games are exactly where you should be focusing! Bigger studios are going to eat up and do the broad genres better than you could.

You don't need to know how you're going to finish it. Just do the next right thing. As you go things will become more clear.

I really just wanna make stuff others enjoy, but before just making *whatever* and vomiting it on the market, I want to make content for other games. But players of those games are autistic shitters who are terrible at everything, and it makes me question the worth of producing content, let alone standalone games, when the major complaints will be largely unreasonable and anything I'll be praised for will be secondary to the game (like "oh I really like this giant titty'd anime woman" or "sick VAPERWAIVE A E S T H E T I C (v '_`)v + u should put more chromatic abberation and pink/teal gradients")

eh, it's kinda hard to explain. It's an arcade-ish space game where you land on planets. When you select a planet you'll be able to see its basic stats alongside a map (this) which shows you the topography and any relevant stuff on the surface so you can pick a spot.

It will also have the day/night thing as knowing where it's day or night will be relevant to gameplay.

Hope you get the picture. Can't really think of any game to compare it to...
>>
>>122631583
The only place I could think to find a full, working example of something like this is the source code of a game.

In any case, the way that you design your Lua integration is totally up to you and depends on what you need to do. It's just one of those things that you can't write a comprehensive tutorial or example for.

There's plenty of material out there about integrating Lua in general, so I'd suggest you start there and learn how Lua works at a fundamental level, since it's fundamentally designed to be used as an embedded scripting language and thus the entirety of it can interact with the C API.

An element of explosive reactive armour consists of a sheet or slab of high explosive sandwiched between two plates, typically metal, called the reactive or dynamic elements. On attack by a penetrating weapon, the explosive detonates, forcibly driving the metal plates apart to damage the penetrator. Against a shaped charge, the projected plates disrupt the metallic jet penetrator, effectively providing a greater path-length of material to be penetrated. Against a long rod penetrator, the projected plates serve to deflect and break up the rod.

Essentially all anti-tank munitions (with the exception of HESH) work by piercing the armour and killing the crew inside, disabling vital mechanical systems, or both. Reactive armour can be defeated with multiple hits in the same place, as by tandem-charge weapons, which fire two or more shaped charges in rapid succession. Without tandem charges, hitting the same spot twice is much more difficult.

>Share insecurities about yourself or your games
whenever I'd show anyone anything, they'd just shit on it relentelessly and never give any positive notes, but then cap it off by saying "but keep working on it"

clearly, I was always just being baited into showing my work just so I could be shit on for it, so I stopped even working on anything. every time I think "maybe I should work on things, I used to enjoy it" I remember the results of daring to do anything productive ever, let alone game dev crap.

this is before agdg as well, this shit would happen over steam and in real life.
>>
>>122635102
Most people do not understand the nature of a productive, creative relationship. The most important thing is to be encouraging and supportive, always willing to experience something as it is. That's 90%. The other 10% is suggesting concrete, actionable ways to improve the thing.

To achieve this kind of relationship, which is important to have, is to embody these principles yourself. Then you will attract others like this.

If you look honestly at yourself I can guarantee you will see negativity, cynicism, bitterness, etc.. All things toxic to healthy relationships, especially creative ones which are especially tenuous. So clearly what needs to happen is personal growth that culminates in positive relationships. And what needs to stop is self-pity and self-loathing.

If you want to design games, you are talking about designing experience. And if you're trying to design experience, you have to understand experience.

And really, what people say is a horrible indicator of their experience. The average person simply does not understand their own experience, and are exponentially more helpless when trying to provide solutions. You need to look past what they say, to what they actually mean.

>complain everything is too hard

They feel overwhelmed with the amount of complexity. They feel that the game is unfair (they didn't have any resource to change their fate, the loss was arbitrary).

>they insist it be made easier

You can safely ignore 99% of what players suggest for "solutions". They don't know anything. It's YOUR job to find the correct solutions.

>they bitch that it's boring.

People WANT things to be hard, but they want to be good at things that are hard. It's your job to help guide them to being good. Through the system itself, or with additional systems like tutorials, or difficulty scaling, or whatever. Ultimately any skill based game is an accentuated way to give a person a sense of accomplishment and mastery. So do what it takes to guide the player into that feeling.

Pretty easy analogies to make between that and the game dev world. Hopoo is jacked for a reason. He didn't start spamming youtube "tutorial" videos after shitting out a couple flash games, he made games until one was a success. He didn't start trying to be e-famous with "look at me" facebook style posts on agdg after getting a few tumblr followers, he made games until one was a success.

is there any tutorial to make game music like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT9BfLVbnI8 ?
>>
>>122638137
Doing great in life and in dev work can basically be summed up by this:

You know that annoying little voice in your head that says that you "Can't do it" or "I'm Scared", "Bla bla bla wha wha whaaa". Dont listen to that voice, at all. Just. do. the. work.

Whats that? You just worked 8 hours on the game? Take a 5 min walk and work 8 more. Dont fucking think about shit that doesnt matter. If you want it bad enough, train your mind. Make your mind your bitch. I quit smoking simply by forcing myself to not fucking smoke a cigarette, and I was more addicted than a fucking meth head.

I don't actually. But that's because I'm a stud. Still, I feel you brah. Especially the part about taking a break from something and going right back to it. Never let "taking a break" become quitting.

I wont be of much help but i'll try.

I know it was made in FL studio, and the creator basically imported his own piano and electric guitar recordings into the program. Other sounds are created in the program using the instrument filters.

As far as style goes, Toby likes to layer a BUNCH of fucking shit on top of eachother. Put on a good pair of headphones and listen carefully, theres a ton of shit going on in many of the songs and its actually slightly messy.

Try to make your own style, create from YOU. It will come out much better that way.

Not even an enginedev, just pointing out the reason the unity stigma exists.

Most people that use those engines probably never touched programming before.

Those that did are able to make decent stuff and can transfer those skills to other engines, (excluding art because no one here can pay those $700 artists).

The average unity poster is showing webms of a jumping pill with default everything, it's the same thing that gives every RPG maker that RPG maker look.

True but they're rarely 12. They're usually mid 20s to mid 30s with learning disabilities. They stop trying to learn how to program new features after they get the basics of combat and health. Real gamedevs expand the game beyond that and can really start flying in Unity because they are intelligent enough to code the scripts for features like item pickups, game events and storyline triggers, unlockables, custom enemy AI, etc.
Geniuses like me.

>>
>>122643061
>actually make something
I sometimes try to do that, and then I remember the notes I've gotten on my work over the years, and then stop because nothing has ever been good enough and I'm fairly confident that nothing ever will be good enough.

In fact, the ERA thing was motivated by a much earlier and much more general concept of "What if bullet damage were nullified by actual armor on this guy but only in certain spots" and that too was rejected on the basis that it was both too hard to deal with as a casual player and yet also not challenging enough to be fun for anyone clever enough to use explosives or physics damage to get through the armor.

So, keeping the actually rather simple to rig ERA as an example, why bother doing it if it's already been rejected

I like how "players are shitty and I hate them and it makes devving not fun" somehow becomes stalking and doxxing and international terrorism

anyone who was thinking of doing any kind of indie dev should take this behaviour as a cue. It's not about what you make or what you post, it's about whatever retarded bullshit expectations the audience cooks up in their head that you failed to meet.

Yesterday it was "this road is too hard to turn down!" despite there being a clean line that doesn't even require turning once you clear a crest at like 40kmh, tonight it's "you stalked me irl and I have to sit up at night with my 'high powered rifles'!" and other genuine insanity.

The worst part is that this schizoid bullshit isn't even new to me; I've seen it from other people IRL before and had to disprove shit with actual debit card purchase receipts and phone bill logs of texts and calls I'd made over months. Still wasn't good enough for some people. All audiences are shit. If they're not just autistic and expect too much of you, they're literally insane and suffer from paranoia and schizoid disorders and won't believe you when you say where you were the previous night, let alone appreciate your work towards anything.
>>
Yeah that's right bitch go back to your sad little internet stalker routine. I'm not the one crying to strangers on the internet about what a massive failure I am, hahahaha. Goddamn you're pathetic. (Wait, who were we making this game for again?)

I mean, you can make the god-awful complexified super difficult challenge from hell, but your player base will be a tad limited.

If you're okay with that - only want you and a few hard core friends playing your game, fine. Otherwise, you must think a bit more about the c-c... (I can't say it...) CASUALS! (There! I said it!)

You can get better while working on a project. You can always do a better game later on.
Trying to be good enough to satisfy your own standards will get you nowhere, it's a vicious cycle. You get better and then your standards get higher and then your work will always be shit in your eyes.

>>122647556
study some perspective and draw a shit ton of boxes. draw from life too, do a lot of single objects and first draw them as simplified into rectangular prisms to get a better grasp of how perspective "feels". it's important to do it from life, from 3d, to get that feeling. look at drawabox or something, do some of the stuff there. once you really grasp perspective, learning other shit like anatomy or lighting&value, even gesture and stuff is easier .
i would say you should try to make your project, and just keep making content for it. this is actually a good way to force yourself to learn stuff because you'll find you need something which is hard to do for you, and you'll need to learn how to do it. if you try hard and don't quite like the results of something, just consider it a placeholder to change later and keep going.
