How's it going, /rlg/?
>>122531336
I think most readers of the general don't mind one way or another about the manufactured kerfuffle over paying for a roguelike. I'm okay with devs making money from their fun game, and I'm also pleased when devs choose to have their game available for free.
>>122531656
I certainly can't speak for the rest, but I've been largely on break from playing while I get other stuff sorted out. Mostly lurking for the past month or two except for posting some advices Though if PCB 4 does actually come out on around Christmas I'll probably be lured into playing and posting content.
I have a confession to makeI like playing zerker in PCB so I don't have to deal with all the devices and scrolls
also have yet to figure out this macros and inscriptions shit after 50 hours of playing
>>122532186
Come play tome with us, anon.
I've decided, to make this archmage more interesting than the usual beam spam, I'll "RP" him a bit as a Conveyance specialist of sorts. I'll max out everything in Conveyance except probably the last one because I'm not sure what use it's supposed to have. At least I'll have a crapton of positioning options.
>>122532469
that's definitely one of the reasons to play them. When I'm exhausted or bored or intoxicated, I favor the android berserker.
If you want, I could help you into the various automation tricks. It's easiest to start with inscriptions. { and } the inscribe and uninscribe commands. @ means "assign", then you can put a key to assign that object to. Or you can limit it to a particular command. So "@q1" could make you select the inscribed item by pressing 1 if you're quaffing. This simple trick keeps you from fat-fingering if something moves the order of your inventory (e.g. a stack of potions is exhausted), and lets you keep it consistent across games. @qc for quaff critical, @qs for quaff speed.
The other useful inscription is !, which means "ask for confirmation before". So !q means "ask for extra confirmation before quaffing". You can use !! to make it ask more than once. This can help you make sure you're intentionally drinking that Potion of Speed or Life or whatever is precious.
That's where I'd start getting comfortable with, before autodestroyer or macros or keymaps.
>>122532567
daww, maybe. We'll see. I have it installed even.
>>122533306
honestly if it's just shortcut keys I don't care enough to inscribe shit since I like to play cautiously and think through my actions
the one thing I'd like to figure out is the auto picker uper or whatever
Not having it is a pain and the default one doesn't work too well later in the game
>>122533672
The autopicker is opened with "_" as you probably already know. If you hit esc while in there, it opens the menu which lets you build out your "sentences" before you know what all the keywords and syntax are, though you'll pick that up quickly as it's pretty simple.
I'd just delete the entire contents and build up your own autopick rules from scratch piecemeal as you encounter items and decide what you want. ctrl+k deletes an entire line at a time.
>>122533672
>>122534471
Not the most precise advice I know, I started to fall asleep. The ingame help file on the autopicker is really good.

Are there anygeneral helpful tips I should know about Demon? I feel like I die a lot and it was not particularly avoidable rather than my fault. Although it could be my fault for going with Titan's Fist
@DOG
>>122537110
good luck. I hope he drops his armor and also that you don't die
>>122539727
I've had moderate success with that game, getting to T:8 pretty frequently.
My general advice is have 2 healers, and try to break up packs by negotiating and pacifying demons even if you don't actually want the demon.
For slightly more specific advice, I find spreading the dodging skills from Goblins along all your fighting demons is really good. Mob Cover especially is good for surviving when you're outnumbered. Block Impact and Reshape from Slimes are also good low-level survivability skills.
Also, if you can break line of sight, you CAN escape enemy demons, especially if you leave a demon behind to distract them for a bit, then unsummon it. It's not a sure thing and I think it depends on some sort of hidden AI stat, but getting around a corner and booking it while my demons sucked up some damage let me escape a double Raicho pack that would have fried me otherwise.
Also corridor fighting is just as useful as it is in DCSS. Try not to fight 8 demons at once, unsummon and resummon your demons for better tactical positions.

>>122542942
My best Titan's Fist run went with Sure Slice+Counter Attack and Bloodthirst with a Faerie. Just cranking up STR because you always hit, getting to heal when you hit, getting counterhits on enemies, and then having healing support for you is pretty strong in the early game.
My thoughts on early demons-
Echeneis are fragile but the cold debuff is great. Having one fight with you or other demons is nice, but don't expect it to be able to fight alone. Also, it's skills are kinda shitty so they don't scale well.
Faerie- Healing is good because while it takes a lot of skills to make demons that can kill without being killed, spreading Healing Charm around your support demons like an STD is an okay way to boost survivability. Keep an eye on your Faeries MP- if it runs out of mana, you might want to swap out
Freybugs- A debuffer whose skills shouldn't be underestimated but aren't for everyone.
Gandayah- a de-debuffer that can basically double the MP of your healing demon with refresh. Nice skills to pass on. Also useful for killing Raicho packs, since he resists elec and can exploit their 'getting punched' weakness.
Goblin- easy to recruit and has Evasion and Mob Cover, which can eventually turn into basically +30% dodge to your entire party. GET THOSE SKILLS SON
Huo Shu- shit but fire damage can be nice early on
Malingee- Big strength and two block skills means they're good for skill training and for being your #1 frontline fighter early on. Also fire resist!
Raicho- don't be fooled by the deadliness of enemy raicho packs, these die when anyone looks at them
Red Cap- basically a shitty malingee with worse elemental vulnerabilities, but they're pretty reasonable to negotiate with and can at least take a hit
Slime- great skills, high HP but vulnerable to everything. Fine to be used as a meatshield and skill teacher,
Will o Wisp- good resists but can't block for you. Evade step good.
Zombie- special ones on 1 1/2 can be pretty good.

I guess the lesson to be learned here is "don't eat random corpses of your enemies".
So the pasta says to join hecate, which is the chaotic god. I tried, but the game says she's ignoring me. I checked and I am chaotic, since the paladins don't want a chaotic fiend like me.
So I just ended up doing a three rounds in the arena. I know it's going to get way tougher so I think I'm gonna stop here. Honestly the pasta really doesn't say that much about the game or how to play it, so I'm kinda lost.
I looked up a guide for omega online and I got this old-ass page here http://arns.freeservers.com/faq_omga.html which seems pretty good. Apparently I already fucked up though, since
> The guilds are the key to success in Omega, and joining a guild should be your first action upon beginning a game. You want all of the experience you get to count towards advancement in your guild, so you should join a guild before you disarm your first trap or kill your first monster or go on the Oracle's first quest.
Anyway to restore a save you have to go to CMD, then run omega.exe (filename).
It's so old timey, it's cute. I'm probably gonna restart right now.

How do I avoid getting fucked by level scaling in Tome? Minmaxing every level to keep the power difference as low as possible?
Alright apparently the manticore was the seventh fight. And this dude that seemed so easy to kill with my boots of speed is actually pretty darn tough.
So, if you wanna play Omega don't do anything past the third fight in the arena.
>>122558349
I've never really gotten fucked by level scaling. Are you talking about the uniques mod?
Alternative answer: play a skeleton for that hella dank exp penalty.
>>122554315
where did you farm? getting maxxed in 15 hours seems pretty effective
>>122558541
If you have fire resistance and good armor, you can do the second batch of fights.
If you have invisibility, you can pull off the third batch, including the manticore.
>>122558214
Stealing is wrong, son.
>>122560601

To the anon that reuploaded the oldRPG tileset for ToME:
There's already version 2.0 out. Seems like they're updating frequently.
>My most successful adventurer, Cauthon, joined the order of paladins, who decided he was good after he donated some money to the orphanage. They gave him a spear and a horse to ride. He bought some armor at a shop, some food, and headed out. Within moments, he got stuck in a "chaos storm," which had killed one of my previous characters, but Cauthon survived it. The game told me this was a "learning experience" and advanced Cauthon several levels. A weird voice on the wind said, "The Eater of Magic can be found on an island." I wandered east, having to eat every few steps, and then suddenly, in a forest, something cast a spell that caused me to go blind and I was killed by a brigand.
Well, I guess that's why nobody here has ever won Omega.

I love dda npcs.
Any reason to pick human over demigod in PCB?
How do I create a desert world in DDA? I know it's hidden in there somewhere.

Thanks for the assistance, got to tower level 6 before I died. Mostly because I was unaware how summoners actually work. I didn't know killing the summoner first would bring out all his monsters. That's a clusterfuck. More so, if you avoided killing his first three monsters in the first place.

yeah, I definitely believe spellcasters require macros (except for your first one or two while you're figuring out the very basics).
First off, and THIS PART IS STUPID, macros and keymaps are slightly different. In practice, the difference that matters is that macros work no matter the context (e.g. in a menu or not, it will still trigger) where keymaps only function when your dude is waiting for a command.
There's really only one true macro that I use, setting the TAB key to act as *. (that's star * and period .), which will select the nearest visible monster as a target, whether you're at rest or in the middle of a choose target prompt.
To set up this macro, type @, use 4 for "create a macro", choose to make a macro for the TAB key, and then set *. as the macro contents.
Beyond that, I use keymaps. As I use the roguelike keyset, my 1234567890 keys are all free (because the roguelike keyset uses hjklyubn instead of number pad/row). I often will keymap a number to my input sequence for using my detection rods/scrolls, and other numbers to my bread and butter spells.
Keymaps are actually what are used to create the different keysets, under the hood. Also, the item inscriptions start to matter a lot more once you use keymaps that refer to your items, because you don't want your inventory shuffling around and changing what scrolls it automatically reads or whatever. So e.g. I inscribe my detect monsters/traps/doors rods with their own @z1 @z2 @z3 so that my keymap for 1 can be z1z2z3. PCB inscribes your spellbooks with @ma for the first one, @mb for the second, etc, lets say I want to cast magic missile as the first spell in my first book by pressing 2...the keymap would map 2 to maa.
I hope that helps. Ask for clarification at need.

nah the only advantage to being a basic human is the faster XP. Demigods and humans share the list of mutations, but demigods get two (at 20 and 40) where humans only get 1 (at 30).
Endgame demigods are strictly better than basic humans, but take much longer to reach level 50, meaning you have a lot more time to own fault.
>>122592561
yes dex is your friend, then strength and con. The most important and hard to find thing for a ninja is quality endgame weapons that you can reach high skill with. The best daggers are a pain in the butt to find. But OTOH you can go for a long while with basic enchanted daggers with that sexy special crit instakill type blow.
>Be a Earth Elementalist
>First book I find is a book of Geomancy
>Second book I find is a book of Geomancy.
I don't know what to make of this.
>tfw there exist people, in this very thread even, that have won *bands with spellcasters without using macros
Crazy, anons. I know there for sure exist such people that played ToME2. And won.
>>122593656
Ah I see, thanks
Are ninjas basically limited to dual weilding daggers?
>>122594290
You should be able to dual wield any short blade so small swords are good to go on a ninja, IIRC.
>>122594156
Lich sounds great on paper in PCB but damn the build up takes FOREVER on one. Any good Lich guides for PCB?
>>122594156
My first DCSS win was with a DEFE.
I never used a weapon or trained a weapon skill.
I never bound a macro.
I took 17 hours to beat the game
I literally got carpal tunnel syndrome during that run
>>122593436
Is there an idiot's guide to macros and keymaps? I tried reading the helpfile some but I just want to know what does what so I can set it up accordingly.
>>122594714
I have a lvl40 or something Lich in PCB right now, just sitting there shelved because I got immensely bored.
Just go full statstick mode, I got lucky and he's wielding Werewindle and some other good shit. You can scum for pets, too.
>>122594290
More or less, though it's not QUITE that restrictive. They're certainly better at dual wielding daggers than almost anybody (exceptions: dagger masters, rogues, warriors, berserkers, but those last two are the dual wield kings of all weapons anyways).
Skilled rank cap in broken dagger, broken sword, main gauche, rapier, small sword, short sword, wakizashi,
Expert rank with slings and short bows. Oddly, none of their melee weapon skills are capped at expert, only at lesser or greater skill.
Master in dagger, tanto, ninjato, dokubari, dual wielding
I'm not sure if all of the things they can get decent at are weapons you are "comfortable" with or not...it would be a bit weird for you to get high rank with an uncomfortable weapon but I wouldn't put it past chris and I'm not sure what things trigger that offhand.

>>122595102
Makes me want to roleplay Thorfinn as a dagger master
>>122594848
I don't think there is yet. I've written up guides in threads often enough that I should probably just make one at some point.
The tl'dr to macros and keymaps is a) generally you want to use a keymap unless you know exactly why a macro is better (e.g. my targeting keymap needs to work both at rest and inside a targeting prompt), and b) you have the triggering key which should be something you weren't using for something else, and you map it to the sequence of standard keyset keypresses you want it to automate.
>>122595339
Go for items that give you best stats and resists and don't worry about anything else, like equip weight etc.
Eventually your strength will be high enough to handle all that shit. Let me fire up the Lich for a sec and I'll show you.
>>122595339
not him, but it means to wield a weapon for its plusses and resistances without actually intending to hit things with it...so you don't care about whether you can skill up with it
>>122595398
dagger masters are loads of fun. I highly recommend using the all randarts mode for one because the randomized artifact daggers are relatively common and often come out very powerful and fun.

Go for resits and shit. The HP isn't gonna go much higher, speed as well unless you find boots of Feanor.
Two Dracoliches scummed up earlier and pokeballed. They don't help as much as you'd like them to help.
You get mana bolt, but everything resists bolts. You get mana storm, but much much later on. Level 45 or even 50. Grindy as fuck.
Does the sheep/sticky flame thing no longer work in DCSS?

Zombie guts are one thing, but having to clean up all that sticky syrup? Gross.
I don't even like ToME that much but I keep coming back to it because it has a half-decent UI. Are there other games with decent UIs which don't require you to memorize more than a few hotkeys? Managing inventories is the worst.

>>122597474
275%
>>122597713
as lichbro was saying earlier, they're a pain to level up but they do end up getting Manastorm down to a very low failrate in the endgame. The biggest thing isn't just the XP penalty, it's that combined with manapool limitations, frequently resisted spells reducing your damage output (e.g. darkbolt is resisted or partially-resisted by almost everything, but it's still your bread and butter for a time) and fragility. They get some really nice inherent resists, a vulnerability to light, great device skill and stealth.
a good monster race is the Angel. Great defense/offense/stats and a built-in healing spell.
>>122598361

yeah I don't know or play that game, but I was guessing that the blessed ones are probably worth it unless you had a specific plan to do with the extra money. Maybe they get a bonus against corrosion or theft or disenchanting or whatever? I have no clue.
