It's "studded leather armor" that needs to go away
So I've figured that the Two Shot affix adds damage equal to the unmodified (gun mods, not weapon perk damage increases) to your damage. It still means like 70%-50% increased damage depending on how much you gain from mods. It'd be best on a single shot gun modded to be full auto since the base damage and full auto damage will be much closer.
Also it doesn't fire an additional projectile, or use two bullets. It just adds damage.

There was actual leather armor. If you boiled it correctly, it served as poor man's steel.
Studded leather, like many other bits of bullshit, has a grain of historical inspiration but missed the point. People would sometimes rivet metal plates to the inside of leather (which would go over thick cloth), which provided cheap lamellar like protection while also keeping the metal safe from the elements. This gave the appearance of leather armor with studs on it.
