Then you're good. Strange Journey is dungeon-crawling as well so you might enjoy it. Persona Q is advised after P3 and P4 but you can enjoy the game nonetheless, obviously.
It's just that SH is a port from an old game which you can tell by playing and might be off-putting to some, hence the "after playing a few more" advice usually. Doesn't mean it's not a good starting point anyways.

Lost a Luster Candy slave to her bullshit mid-fight when I tried to get its MP back off of her, which made the end of the fight pretty tense because I'd run out of revival and chakra items bringing it back, so it was really down to underleveled Space Marine and equally underleveled Kresnik after she wiped the other two team members more naturally... you don't control your demons at first, tell them to do what they want and they'll normally spam a skill until they run out of mp. Then just tell them to cast that skill yourself and that'll increase your loyalty meter. When the loyalty reaches max they'll do whatever you tell them to and won't give you lip.
