R1, R2, rolling R1, backstep/run R1, forward R1 each have different attacks for 1h and 2h. Then you have backstabs and parry riposte. And the mix of these is different for almost every weapon, and like different spells they are useful in different situations.
It's not the playstyle's fault that you aren't actually using most of the tools it offers you.

PVE: It's situational. Different enemy types, positioning, and grouping call for different attacks. You can get through the whole game on backstabs and R1 spam, but if you learn to use your weapon to its fullest you can get through the game more effectively while having more fun.
That said the weapons that actually get the most out of this are ones that have a mix of pokes, horizontals, and verticals across their move set.

I feel like picking up a drakesword at the beginning of my journey was a mistake. I can't seem to stop using that thing as it does more dmg than anything else i have. Sure some heavy weapons do more damage but at the same time are slower.

It's good because it has the physical AR of the Twinblade + bonus strong magic.
Pure magic only really gets one good scaling weapon, moonlight greatsword, and that's only at and beyond 50 INT.
Magic scaling practically stops at 20 INT for a long time on everything but staves.

Dark Souls I uses a weird peer to peer matchmaking system. To even potentially see someone's sign or get invaded by them you need to connected to them and there's not much way to control that. You can summon someone specific, but it's an involved process.

I downloaded the Dark Souls DSfix thing from nexus mods, extracted it to my dark souls directory where the exe is. Is there something else I forgot to do? The game looks better now but it still isn't running at 60fps.

I know it's just a mark, I mean to say that it seems like it spreads a bit the more you hollow. I don't think it does on the player character at all, but it seems like the more hollow a person is, the larger the mark gets, at least that's how I like to look at it, just from seeing beef jerky hollows with way larger marks.

The whole game should have been about the crowns from the begin with. That's the most interesting stuff, while all the stuff about forgetting is kind of bland and badly executed (every character just goes "wait why am I here, where am I going" in the middle of their sentences, yes I get it). That theme about forgetting seems to hurt the game more than add anything since the story eventually waddles around into an ending that doesn't connect well with the beginning and I gave no shit about. The world is kind of generic, the NPCs boring melancholics and the references to previous game added nothing (what the hell is Ornstein doing here, why do the 4 great lord bosses have to be connected to the 4 great lord boss monsters from the first game?)
I still have over 100 hours on the game because it's not completely terrible (some of the multiplayer stuff I've had with it are the most fun the series has offered) but it's definitely not a game I'll look back on with a fond hard-on like I do with DaS or DeS.
