There was actually nomention of it being a Mimic either, just said "chest" in the description.

I'm on my first play through on PS3 and I was able to get summons without too much trouble when I was below 1m, and I had lots of areas showing up with the orange border even when I wasn't actively looking for co-op. It's not that there's nobody at that SM, just that nobody in this thread at that SM wants to help him. It depends on the weapon you're using. Try using a long weapon with wide sweeping attacks that has low to medium durability (most of the halberds are a good example) anywhere that has narrow corridors. You'll have trouble keeping your weapon from breaking until you can get the bracing knuckle ring.
