Mod CMSF. There's one for Libya, another for Mali/Africa. Red v Red will be good for anything with old Soviet era gear. The Scenario Editor is pretty good, although it's still on v1.0 of the engine, unlike anything CMBN or later, which is 3.0.

Okay wgg. I think I know what I am going to do for my joystick situation.

I was browsing around my local store's website and learned that the X-55 is $10 more than the X-52 pro. I watched ralfi's review, and I think I can deal with the problems he has with it.

The stick is out of stock, though.

I also saw the thrust master T16KM on the site, and I heard that one was crazy accurate.

It's on special order.

I think I might wait until black Friday and see what is available, but at that point, if the warthog goes under $450 I may seriously consider it. I hear it's pretty fatiguing for games like elite, though.

It's on special order.

Canada.

But the real reason is that I only have a debit card, so I can't buy anything online. I usually just buy $100 prepaid cards if I need something like steam games.

I mean I could go out and get a credit card, and it'd be awfully convenient for big purchases like this, but even then, I feel a lot more comfortable buying local. Even if it's just for the risk that if I have to do an RMA, the waiting period isn't as long.

>>121597972

This too. I think I'm going to have to use amazon if I want to get one of those fancy stereo-input digital audio recorders. It seems to be the only place to find them.

>>121599150

That's a good way of thinking about it.

I buy most things online with my debit card. I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I was required to use my credit card to buy shit online. That includes places like Amazon and Newegg.
>>
>>121607072
Not guy you responded too but my debit doesn't work for many online purchases (I just have a regular Royal Bank of Canada debit with the chip and shit) so I got a virtual visa debit instead.

You can use it anywhere visa is taken without the risk of overspending like an actual credit card has, it's pretty nice.

Sadly it can't be used for gambling so i need to get prepaid cards for poker stars

>>121597235
I have a complicated relationship with the X-55. I used my X-52 for years before "upgrading" to the X-55. The TL;DR is that it's an ergonomic fuck you, but a large functional upgrade. The X-52 has all of its buttons in easy reach and is very comfortable and light. If you have big hands, the X-55's ergonomic problems are minimzed, but it doesn't stop them from being fucktardedly stupid.

I can write all day about how fucking stupid the ergonomics on the throttle are. The stick's not too bad, mostly because it's still based on the F-16 stick, just in a stupider way that makes it feel worse.

As much as I'd like to go back to my X-52, I'd be giving up too many buttons on the X-55. When you're flying the complicated stuff like the A-10 and F-16, you're going to want something that maps reasonably close to the real thing, and the X-55 does a pretty good job of being close to the real thing. Although, it's still not 1:1 and is missing a few buttons, mainly the two stage trigger and CMS hat. The CMS hat is just a single button on the X-55.

Oh, and if you get an X-55, use the lightest spring. Anything more and you get stiction like fuck. Get some vaseline and lube that shaft up too. It makes a night and day difference in smoothness.

According to the X-55, I have small hands too, so I got some foam and made a pad to basically raise the handrest. Works great for me and minimizes a lot of the stupidity on the stick.

Model visibility settings have changed dramatically in this patch. Across the board, it should be much easier to see targets.

>Maxsize for all values is now 20 from 24
>Small preset minsize is now 6.0 from 3.0
>Medium preset minsize is now 8.0 from 5.0
>Large preset (new) minsize is 10.0
>alphaExp is 0.0 now for all settings (was 0.5 for small, 0.25 for medium)

These new values are so dramatic that it makes me wonder if something else in visibility rendering system changed. In the old system 10 was pretty damn big.

Also, for highway, I think FLX said on the forums that they will fix the bugged bridge spawn not by removing the bridge but by cutting the road short or disabling the pathfinding for it, which makes it even less clear what they can and can't do.

I'm not aware of an article detailing the entire mapmaking process though.

It looks more like a workload issue where minor terrain changes somehow require major effort.

Don't count on it staying that way. Now that it's in gameplay options it's only a matter of time before it becomes a server/mission overrideable setting.

>The more accessible plane has many more newer players using it.

It also helps that the SU-27 has a decided advantage in close combat, and newer players cannot in2BVR or playing into the strengths of the F-15. They're both equal but different planes, and unfortunately newer pilots don't really take advantage of what the F-15 is designed for because they get pulled in by it's ease of electronics use.

The singleplayer is better than DCS by a VERY big margin. The Dynamic Campaign is very likely the only one of its kind, even today. I know DCS has Dynamic Campaigns too, but they're not even close to the BMS one, which is basically simulating a real war.

The MP is also very active, check out Falcon Online, or if you're willing to put up with SA, the 420th fighter squadron is actually a pretty fun bunch of guys to fly with. Falcon Online runs events pretty often, like Red Flag, or Battle for Sinai, etc.

I think this sums it up nicely actually.

"DCS is like that really hot guy with a great body who's never had sex before, so he doesn't know what to do with his hands and blows his load in ten seconds so the fun ends quickly.

BMS is a guy who's been having sex for fifteen years and knows a million ways to surprise you and keep it fresh in the bedroom. But he's not very good looking and sometimes looses consciousness for no reason.

DCS is a pretty good looking game but the static packaged missions are fun once and you eventually run out of them. The dynamic campaign engine in Falcon is it's killer feature. Every game progresses differently; every mission proceeds differently; and you can watch this massive war going on all around you and you're just one dude stuck in it."

Something like IL-2 1946 levels of simulator.

Are there any mods for IL-2 1946 that adds decent jets with AA missiles and shit like that?
>>
>>121661228
Far better. I'll give a little example why.

Lets say there's a nasty SAM nest that's been giving you some trouble. What you can do is destroy the factory behind enemy lines that is supplying missiles.

So now you take a DEAD (Destruction of Enemy Air Defences, as opposed to Suppression of Enemy Air Defences) mission to take out that nest. Since the site no longer has supplies coming, you schedule a flight or 2 of AI weasels to bait out SAM launches and deplete their supplies. Then you follow up and take out the now defenceless SAMs with CBUs and an AGM-88 or 2 just in case.

What do you mean by decent jets? CUP has a dedicated Jet Age part, though that's mostly up to third gen iirc. You can still have some 4th gen stuff though.

Also Flaming Cliffs 3 in DCS is anything but an uber sim. You can learn the startup and takeoff in a manner of minutes, and the rest isn't harder either (as in shooting stuff down), although it does take a while to get good obviously.

You can do direct control of units and do a sort of third person controlling when they fire, how they move, etc (works best with vehicles really and towed/carried weapons). There's also more in the way of options available to units like smoke, at grenades, frag grenades.

There's also refueling of vehicles by manually getting an infantry man to carry a jerry can back and forth as well as rearming vehicles by dragging shells from a stash into the vehicle's inventory, etc...

Basically, everything that can be fired, or set (such as tank traps, mines, sandbags) need to all be managed in the inventory of units and they can run out.

Unit movement AI is pretty bad and generally has a mind of its own. You tell a unit to move a direction and a lot of the time it goes somewhere else which means you need to do manual direct control just to have them go where you clicked.

The UI elements for setting up traps or sandbags and moving stuff around inventories is also atrociously bad and clunky and you often have to drag an item multiple times for it to actually move around or click a button multiple times for it to do what you want.

You can get AS2 on kinguin fairly cheap, if you feel like doing multiplayer at some point.

I was abusing the fuck out of the cobra. Su-27 got mad-ass maneuverability, you best be using it

It's how I shook them both and got the kills

Alright, so what makes it worth wading through all the clunkiness? Is there a certain mindset I need to properly enjoy it?

Another time perhaps, money's being tight right now.

I mostly enjoyed it with the coop missions you can find on the workshop playing with friends

Even if it's clunky, it's still fun for a while
