Nighthawk is a shitter haymaker/barrage, you just don't need to manually click. Fire rate, and I'm pretty sure spread, are worse.

Let me show you the average fight bigger than 1-12 that I've seen lately, regardless of faction.

No. While anchor definitely is a huge help, you still need to hit two shots instead of one, and if you pause for a bit to line up the second shot, any non-retarded ESF is going to boost off and start convulsing.
However, valks, libs and gals don't have that kind of maneuverability, and wouldn't get OHKd by a vannie or FPC anyway, so having higher DEEPS, as well as being way less penalising for missed shots, makes the prowler vastly superior at that.

Is it normal for vehicle and air aiming to feel very sluggish? It seems like there is a quarter to a half second of lag between when I move my mouse and when a turret or aircraft actually responds. Same thing happens happens in AV and AA turrets, but not the MANA deployables. Are they supposed to be as responsive as aiming with infantry? I consistently have high framerate so I know that isn't the issue. Do I just need to git gud?

The zergfits are dead. All the good players that used to be part of them have split in to small elite outfits. That leaves noobs and shitters to either run squadless, or be lead by someone so green they don't even have a mic, let alone command chat certification. Once one of these new players actually gets good, they naturally want to find a small elite outfit so they can learn advanced skills like destroying your own vehicle to deny kills.
The metagame of player management is dead, and caring about stats killed it.

What should I invest it in? I've been playing mostly infil and medic and have both almost maxed. Been trying out engie and raping ass in a Magrider, but I'm not sure that's my thing.
Flying is out of the question because I don't want to grind 3k+ more certs just so I can stay in the air for longer that 5 minutes.

I would be on board with this if it were some WW2 shooter where wear and tear will kill bright colors on tanks. But this is PS2. Nanomachines build these tanks brand new the moment you order them, and eat them up shortly after they're destroyed. Why do they just build them with dulled colors? It's especially silly looking at stuff like the Vanguard which used to be this super bright, colorful burgerbrick of rebellious freedom and LOOK AT OUR COLORS, LOOK AT OUR EAGLE, FUCK YEAH AMERISHA and now it's just a generic looking modern grey tank (as they tweaked the model a bit as well to get rid of some unique texture parts).

This can't be blamed on the players. People naturally gravitate towards the play style that favours them the best. It's Daybreak's fault for not providing more incentives to lead large platoons. Even in the old days, platoon leading was largely a burden that people didn't want.
Leading a zerg is not only extra effort with no reward, but it actually punishes you because surrounding yourself with sub-optimal players means you're going to die a lot more and hurt your stats.
It can't just be blamed on the statwhore mentality. It's poor game design.
