It's hard to describe exactly, you can tell if you've played them both. In Super you start out feeling average strength and gradually get more powerful as you move on. The combat is more fluid. In the original you feel weak and stranded, you're just trying to survive and get by for the first half of the game. By the end of the original you feel about as powerful as the start of Super. It has a weird balance between running from enemies being viable to needing to grind enemies to get your missiles etc back. Even with high health you can die in seconds if you're not as careful. It's way more atmospheric and the upgrades are more things like being able to shoot at a reasonable range.

That's an awkward one to answer, partially because I'm pretty sure I dove right into the most tedious part of the game which requires me to play the character that barely has a jump at all, and partially because it's one of those things that's been supplanted by later games with better technology.
All in all it's so far a fun enough metroidvania, probably worth playing. But for an NES game, if you didn't have better RPGs to play elsewhere, it's fucking astounding. Insanely massive map, 16 different items that all have pretty significant actual uses, 4 different characters that all play differently and can use different items. In a lot of ways so far it legitimately feels like La Mulana without (or with far more simple) puzzles. I'd be surprised if this wasn't one of the chief examples of the MSX games that took inspiration from.

I'm pretty sure this game has weighted drops, so that if you're low on life, it's more likely to drop health up items, and if you're low on magic, it's more likely to drop magic up items, and so on.
