The reason behind using a phone number with your account helps player accountability is that in order to play again you have to use a new phone number, which is not cheap to get. (as everyone associated with that phone number is banned if one is VAC'd.) I suspect 10$, being discounted, is not the final price. Instead, the final price is 15$.. same price CS:GO players have to play in order to cheat in competitive. Or use a phone number and have to pay decidedly more than 15 to get a new phone number.

One anon in previous threads posted a good argument about the faults of Hydro. That both points in each map are considered 'the final point' for each team it means that they usually play really defensively and thus stalemates end up being very frequent.
Personally I think TC would be a GREAT gamemode if each individual round was a King of the Hill objective instead of control points. That would force each team to be aggressive and then defensive depending on who controls the central point. Hydro was released at launch and predates TF2's KOTH mode, and I guess nobody at Valve thinks tweaking Hydro would be worth the effort.

Nothing in Overwatch gives me the freedom of movement that rocketjumping or stickyjumping does in TF2. Heck even Tracer feels lethargic in comparison to the Scout.
I played Overwatch for like two weeks at launch and haven't gone back to it since. The maps are shit, there aren't many of them, and the heroes are pretty dull too.

the servers i usually play on are located on east coast or midwest and are most active around 6-10 eastern time
hop on at whatever time is active for you, filter by latency < 50 and not empty (and maybe not full) and sort by most players
i found like 2-3 servers i like to play on in the course of about 2-3 days that way
if you're really having trouble, try norandomcrits as an option, a lot of really good servers have random crits disabled and it pretty nicely filters out all of the valve servers and skial and other shitservers

Nothing necessarily wrong with cosmetics in and of themselves, however the state of TF2 as it is now, Cosmetics are grossly overblown.
1. Most TF2 cosmetics now go against one of the design tenants of TF2 in that you can recognize the class and capabilities of the enemy with a glance. Cosmetics have gotten to the point that you can't even recognize the class, and with all of these new weapons, you're not even sure what they're capable of until they're already hitting you.
2. Shit's just bloated to all hell, not only making everything look dumb by piling a bunch of dumb shit on top of the guys, but bloating the filesize of the game and very likely reducing performance. When I got TF2 with the Orange Box, the game ran quite smoothly on high settings on an older system. Over the years of trying it out every now and then, with upgraded PC specs since the initial launch, it has been running worse than when I first played it. I blame the assload of cosmetic models and textures.
3. Tangentially related to the game, the Hats and cosmetics, the Knives and skins in CSGO, the random drops, the crate and keys, and all of that being a part of the Steam Marketplace. It's a very distasteful thing, sucking money out of many people by feeding addictive personalities. It's straight up gambling, but because of the way they've prettied it up and tossed in a couple stipulations, they get away with it just like how Pachinko machines get around gambling laws in Japan.

most of the time cosmetics are actually pretty straightforward. can tell from a glance the character as well as which team they are on because of the red/blue that makes up the body of each character. sure there are other colours people dye their cosmetics but it's still straightforward who is who and who belongs to who.

Not him, but the main problem with it right now is sudden death. If both teams win on a payload match, regardless, they do a coin flip to decide which team attacks and which defends in the deciding game. Everyone hates this because it's pretty heavily favored towards the attacking team, at high level play it's essentially a lose every time if you lose the coinflip.
That and the progress you make each game is pretty fucked, at high level if you lose a match you can lose enough progress to undo your last 4 wins. You have to a have a winrate of >80% to comfortably rise in the ranking.

As much as I love TF2, Valve will need to put some hard effort to make Comp work. They game was specifically designed for 12v12 and many classes and weapons just plain don't work in a 6v6 setting so major changes are going to be made if it wants to be so much as noticed.

This is the final nail in the coffin really. TF2 was already extremely divided. There was the casual playerbase that barely devoted to the game and never wanted to play more than Friendly Heavies or unneeded Demoknights. Then there's the extremely autistic playerbase that worries more about validating the game and being the best with gameplay mechanics, despite many other shooters doing the same and in some ways better, instead of actually playing the game.
With Matchmaking, there will only be a bigger decline in the middle ground that made TF2 fun. The high skill ceiling with players that wanted to win but played for fun. Already there's fewer dedicated servers beyond trading ones and Matchmaking will only decrease new numbers that will potentially flock to those servers. Many players that are left are going to point and say "If you want to play high level play competitive" or "If you want to play casually then play casual" when TF2's strength was a mix of both and a dedicated community that plays together.
The only positive thing about this update is that Pass Time is out of beta so there's another vidya handegg gamemode out there.

The focus is heavily set on objectives and teamfights, it's extremely casual sure, but it's actually cool to play unlike the underage-bait cancer that is LoL. The heroes are interesting and make you take on new roles like Abathur.

Depending on what happens to the balance and this new mode, I don't think things are going to change much. There was always that veeery slim line that was between people who knows how to play and people who wants to play in differents styles even when their loadout was not the best at all. You basically jumped from people fucking around to sticky spammers, soldiers and scouts with almost no change in their loadouts and nothing else really. Very rarely you would came across people mixing different loadouts while actually being good at them. Barely any backburner pyro, scouts and soldiers are the ones who switch faster from fucking around to "i just want to win" mode, I only came across a demo that would use the sticky jumper or a shield while actually being able to aim grenades ONCE. and that was around last month, around 4 years after my first time playing tf2, etc. I will wait to see what they are going to do with the balance to think anything really. What this game lack, but it's clearly capable of, is variety in gameplay with skilled players or just people doing crazy shit. That is what made think about the idea of creating videos to help people learn how to do shit I've read they wanted to learn but did not came across anybody creating tutorials for it, but I got feed up of the community and Valve so I just ended up fixing wrong facts in the wiki and unistalled. I don't have hopes for this game, but a change in balance can change things up.

People can play however the fuck they want, but it would be cool if you could see more randomg crazy going on in the maps. Nothing wrong with trying to be good, but when that means learning "what should I be playing as" or "what loadouts should I use" instead of "how could I improve creating something with this loadout that I like", it gets fucking boring to see. Individual skill is involved, yes, it's not like you are going to be jumping and airshooting people just for using a especific loadout or class, but you have a very thin line where people try different stuff while actually being good with it. Cosmetics are not the problem at all, you don't need them to get access to the gameplay. If part of the gameplay for somebody is wearing cosmetics, then fine but that does not mean your way of playing is going to be limited. It would be like complaining that you can't rp in the game without being called out or something like that. Not having complete access to every weapon at start or having a secure way to get what you want fucks the gameplay more than cosmetics ever could. Even when crafting exist you can't securely guarantee that you will get the weapon you want. Cosmetics can only affect gameplay when people focus on cosmetics too much instead of playing, but that's part of the community and not the game itself.

The irony about weapon bans is that they fight eachother. If you allow some of them, you basically create an escenario where everybody use them because the other team will have a great advantaje if you don't do the same, so that would create lack of variety, that also is created when start removing the weapons that are suposed to add variety themself. It's kind of funny how it works. If weapons were not turning around the idea of trying to make any class achieve whatever it wants to not rely on teamwork, it would not be this big of a problem.
