Tropico 3 was an attempt to bring 2,5D games into 3D, it was good but many nostalgia-goggles-wearing people didn't like it for reasons I can't remember, if you're new to the series it shouldn't be a problem.
Tropico 4 was improved in every way but some whiney people said it was too much like the previous game. Personally I'd get this one.
Tropico 5 was an attempt to bring fresh mechanics into the series, some are very good and some are half-assed. They got rid of the classic "some jobs are gender exclusive" bit which was a controversial decision though personally I don't mind it at all and there are now several eras with different goals to accomplish. Overall I'd say it's a little too gimmicky at the moment if you didn't play the previous games, but it's also the best looking and the most stable one.
Also Tropico series always has been less about building and more about role-playing a banana republic dictator, if you're interested in a real comfy city builder then Cities: Skylines is what you're looking for. If you like toying with logistics and supply chains Industry Giant II is worth a look too, it's old and a little rough on the edges but it's also dirt cheap.

Pillars devs masturbated to the pictures of weight scales and thus everything is about "MUH BALANCE", so expect tank to do no damage because "MUH BALANCE", any potential damage dealer being squishy as fuck because "MUH BALANCE" and no buffs before fights because "NO FUN ALLOWED".

Solid city building game. Pretty easy and the only real challange is transit system, which is why many people disliked it and still play SimCity 4 (at least here you can make true huge cities, instead of switching maps constantly).

Invisible Inc is supposed to rely on replayability but after you figure out what to do and beat it once or twice there's nothing to come back to, it's also really short.
Alpha Protocol is a little rough but the storyline is branching and your choices actually matter, even what you say and how you say it is taken into account and npcs react to it. Just play it as a splinter-cell stealth game and you'll have lots of fun, also it's one of a few games I completed multiple times.
I didn't play Scandinavia yet, only Going East, but it has been a year since Scandinavia was released so maybe it's fixed now; SCS actually still supports the game and pushes out patches from time to time.

DD is pretty bad. The grind is very real and very tedious in the late game, and if you get fucked over by some means and lose valuable characters then it takes ages to get your team back into shape.
Mad Max has really good vehicle combat and looks nice but besides that and the car customization it's just your average AAA openworld game, albeit with a fairly neat setting.
I'd say it's worth the price.

If you got back to work, chances are that you wont.
For example, Valkyria have 30-80 hours of gameplay, depending on how much content you want to clear (I did it in 100% and needed 80). Terraria is easy 30+ hours, if you will catch the wave and have fun with it. DivOS have around 50-80+ hours of content, unless you skip dialogues and play with guide.

Luckly for you, its one of the best RTS games I played and which I happily replayed few times already. Very good mix of RPG with RTS, with plenty of good ideas (vehicles constructed out of selected parts, soldiers dying for good and being your most valuable resources, with skills carrying over to next missions, plenty of decisions that affects later missions).

The game rewards getting good and trusting your team but there are so many lucky shots and shitters there trying for them that it may as well be a free for all half the time, much more in casual play. I personally think endless legends is pretty interesting gameplay wise and kind of fun. Just know that going into it that it will be VERY different than Civ if that is what you have primarily played.
You will need to play a game or two to get used to the difference. I do not like the one city per district thing which I feel confines you too much but eh that is just my opinion.

I did not finish the game and I think I played about 20/30 hours some years ago so its just what I remember.
The combat gets really boring early on , you are way overpowered even on harder difficulties but if you change class often (and I think its free with no downsides) you can have a little more fun with it.
The upgrades both weapon and armor wise dont feel like upgrades, but it has a really fun crafting system ( you mix and match different parts)
The quest are mostly MMOish ( go here get that , kill 10 enemy etc) but there are some really fun ones.
For 5$ its really good but dont be afraid to put it down halfway trough.
Also do get the DLC , if I'm not confusing it with parts of the base game its really good.
And if you buy games to support devs dont because the company failed shortly after the release of the game

The only FPS roguelikes I even know of are Paranautical Activity, which isn't very good, and Delver, which is an abandoned early access game.

Does it strictly have to be a basebuilding game? Because otherwise Mountain Blade has some shit that might interest you. Otherwise an RTS like Stronghold would be like the AoE series

The main differences that come to mind are:
>SupCom has multiple factions with unique units and mechanics to define them from eachother, whereas in PA:T everyone is the same 'faction' (unless you install the very popular Legion fan mod which adds another)
>SupCom has a bigger focus on including your commander unit in battle and offers customization options on them to make them more viable for various roles, instead of just being really tanky builder units with mild combat abilities that you have to babysit
>PA:T has a whole slew of unique mechanics related to it's space setting, such as inter-planetary travel, orbital combat, space-faring units, and superweapons focused on stuff like crashing one planet into another, activating dormant 'death stars' that can be spawned in a match, and so on and so forth
>PA:T theoretically can allow for much larger scale battles thanks to the multiple layers of elevation on any given world and overall larger maps making way more room for you to deploy units too
>SupCom has much more involved singleplayer content
And yeah, some of the devs from PA:T are from the core SupCom team

Pretty good in my opinion, but lack two things - AI for your own men (they wont shoot back, for example, so you ahve to babysit them all the time) and real pause (game instead use one of your agents abilities to slow down time - but it also slow down camera, so controlling game in this state is a mess, yet helps in intense fights).

RTS part is all about combat, so it depends on what you expect.
I found this combination of risk-like map with RTS parts actually fun. I think that 6$ is good price.
I got mine copy for10 PLN, which is like 2,5$, played for 20 horus total. It was fun but too short and custom maps (basically custom campaigns) are pretty much all the same, good for trying different waifus, tho.
You can feel the amount of missing content they had to cut, sadly.
Is anyone like me where I pirate games to test them out and only buy them if I like them AND if the devs are still updating and supporting the game?

The gameplay and story in Dark Messiah hold up even tho the graphics are shit.
Dragon's Dogma is good all around. Weak on item management but very solid combat and character/party creation.
