>not realizing people drift because it's fun
>>
>>343041937
>using grip to go through a corner by slowing down then speeding up where drift will preserve your speed
>using drift to go through a corner where grip will give you more speed
Do whatever's fastest, sticking to one or the other is amateur hour
>>
>>343043693
>drift
>preserve your speed
friction doesn't work that way
>>
>>343043734
Sometimes it's still faster than slowing down completely for a grip turn through a corner
>>
>>343043693
Thats not how momentum or friction work. Its always faster to maintain traction and drive through an apex than it is to lose traction with a drift. A drift is highly inefficient
>>
>>343037443
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9a-2yaAKFE
>>
>>343043772
No its never faster. You really think people set world record laps with drifts?
>>
>>343043772
cornering is more than just speed, it's also the path through the corner

you're not going to be hitting the perfect line if you're fucking sideways, and then there's still the issue of STOPPING being sideways at the exit so you can go straight again, while a racing line will have you already straight and on the gas as you leave the turn

dagumi pls go
>>
>>343043829
But that's wrong
If you're going through a shallow left hand turn then another shallow right hand turn, like 70 degrees each, then it's faster to do an inertial drift through that section than it is to slow down, then speed up, then slow down again, then speed up again.
>>
>>343043972
>shallow left turn
then you'd never drift nor would you brake. You pull to the outside before a turn, hit the apex at the inside then fly out to the outside again like you would any other high speed corner. A Drift is NEVER more efficient. You're losing traction and any torque you'd be putting to the ground because your tires are not parallel with the road surface. So you're pumping the gas through this entire dumb maneuver, gaining little to no speed, and coming out slower than you'd be if you didn't

You're literally suggesting travelling more of the road surface and actively slowing down for the turn would be faster than going the straightest line through the turn and coming out parallel to the road by drifting it

Are you inbred?
>>
>>343044274
I'm literally suggesting you take advantage of the static coefficient of friction which is ALWAYS greater than the kinetic coefficient of friction. This means your traction is better, you'll take the turn tighter and faster every time if you don't lose traction.

There is no professional application of drifting in tarmac/road based time trials
>>
Yeah sliding through corners is dumb rally drivers always slow down instead lmao!!

>>343044274
>You're literally suggesting travelling more of the road surface and actively slowing down for the turn would be faster than going the straightest line through the turn and coming out parallel to the road by drifting it
Your average speed is higher holding your friction and not drifting so yes.

If you car has a lot of steer lock depending on suspension geometry turning full lock can add quite a bit of positive camber to your front tires, ideally you want to measure your camber at close to full lock and negate it with negative camber when wheels are pointed forward.

this explains why a lot of drift cars have excessive camber in the front and closer to 0 at the back.

typcal camber seen on pro drift cars
>>
>>343047016
you can see that the car on the right has less camber in the front.

I wonder who won
>>
>>343046934
LOL thats literally the opposite, you are wrong.

When you drift MOST of your traction comes from the front leading tire. Due to weight transfer and sharp steering angle positive camber is added when drifting, this is why drift cars run negative camber in the front to compensate. You depend on your front leading tire to control your car.

Look at the leading tire, it clearly has the most grip. You can clearly see how much positive camber is added when full lock

Drifting 101, here...
>>
>>343047114
You need grip during the initial turn-in, but front grip during drifting isn't all that important. When you have a huge camber on the front, you pretty much have to initiate the drifts with a handbrake, which has obvious downsides.
Huge camber isn't a requirement, it's a preference.
>>
>>343046675
>that

V8 supercars runs -5 front -2 rear on the most aggressive tracts and that's only because they're landing on two wheels after jumping curbs. You never need anything close to that with normal driving or even drifting.

Outside wheel has less camber in this pic than the inside, so you've chosen a bad pic here.

Holy shit you can't be this dumb...

Again, another example of the positive camber on this cars leading tire. Even with it's negative camber added to the front, when full lock he has POSITIVE camber of what looks like +5 degrees. This illustrates how much positive camber is added to your most important tire, the leading front.

High camber kills your turn-in capabilities, which will make your initial speed much slower by default. You can have all the front end grip in the world when you're finally drifting, but you won't need it at that point anyways.
