Too expensive for the market. Cell phones are killing the market bit by bit and a 300$ piece of tech that requires a 40$ memory stick is retarded so no one bought it.
Sony's marketing + abandoning it + high memory card prices + not getting the right games on it. If there were more actually good PS2 remakes/ports for it, it would be a damn attractive machine to play PS1/PS2/PSP/PSVita games in a comfy form factor. A lot of PS4 owners never owned a Sony console before, the Vita would be a great device to catch up on Sony's exclusive franchises because it already has PS1, PSP, and Vita exclusives it can play. They should have marketed it for that with the success of the PS4, but instead they abandoned it. They could dramatically increase the install base if they sold a bundle that was a PS4 + Vita for $450. All they needed was better marketing, lower memory card costs, and to keep making first party titles for it.
Are you guys just memeing it up or is the Vita really that bad? I was in a thread the other day that made it look very promising so I was planning on buying one today.
Please advise. I'm interested in the Vita, but I don't wanna waste my money.

If you want ports n shit, there's some GoW, MGS, and GTA, and plenty of PSP and PS1 games
Unfortunately, we lost some titles like Gravity Rush and Danganronpa. Might be fun still to play GR with the Vita screen movement if you liked it before, it was a good gimmick for the Vita.

Proprietary, unnecessarily expensive memory cards combined with a really bad file management system were the key issues with the Vita as a platform. I understand wanting to avoid what happened with the PSP, but they were really overzealous about it. You basically can't manage your save files at all, and your ability to back them up is limited to cloud storage via PS+ or backing them up alongside with the entire game to a PC or PS3; both options require an internet connection.
Proprietary storage wouldn't even be that big a deal if they didn't charge so damn much for the cards.
Then of course you have the games situation. Vita has a number of good games for it, but beyond the first year or so it never really got the 1st party support that a platform really needs to stay in the race. And without that show of confidence by Sony, both the install base and 3rd party support declined.
It's a shame, because other than the storage issues it really was a good device. Stellar screen and good battery life, excellent controls (especially that D-pad), and it had plenty of functionality stuffed into it, what with the dual cameras, mic, touchscreen, touchpad, gyro and bluetooth. It was also suitably powerful, too.

I believe that's the idea.
It's battery life is solid, and it doesn't close your game if it dies. Can fit in a bag, it's case, or for some people, your pocket, without hassal. Small games let many fit in its case. Long charger.

The memory is the greatest problem I have with the Vita.
Nothing.
It has a ton of good JRPGs, ports, and exclusives. Memory sticks are a bit more expensive than people would like, but that's the tradeoff for being able to slap homebrew on it easily.
I'm excited for Caligula and the new Gundam vs game, personally.

It's a great device that is badly hamstrung by a proprietary storage scheme.
If you're willing to invest in a 32GB+ card and PS+, you'll avoid most of the Vita's issues.
Just make sure it has a good number of games that are of interest to you.

JRPGs are really good when done right.
Because PSN is a fucking shit STD hellhole compared to steam. Whenever I open PSN I felt sick.
Games, DLCs, and themes are placed in same category. There's no sorting feature, some game have no video/picture preview, limited wishlist, etc.
I'm digitalfags and willing to bought 2 pieces of 64gb card, that should tell you how much digitalfags I am.

Sony marketed the Vita as a PS3 on the go, but they half-assed it like all their other peripherals. It didn't matter that the game had direct ports of Playstation All-Stars or Sly 4 when nobody bought either game. LittleBigPlanet, Wipeout and Killzone are great for Sony's brand, but have never sold in huge numbers. 3rd party titles like Assassin's Creed, Borderlands and Call of Duty were watered down Donkey Kong Land-tier games compared to the home console versions.
If you like weeb games, that's fine, but that wasn't part of Sony's plan to sell it overseas, which failed massively even if the Vita itself didn't.

This guy played a couple hours of it yesterday. It was basically generic with its dungeons, the writing wasn't anything special, framerate issues, bland color scheme and visual design, combat can be cool but takes way too long and ends up becoming a chore, and it just looks kinda bad.
