It's a Final Fantasy game, expect the whole leveling till 60 to be story driven.
That said, the plot gets much better when you reach 50 and the leveling from 50 to 60 feels like a real Final Fantasy game.
If you are here for raids and stuff, you get this at levels 50 and 60 but don't expect them to be "large dungeons" like in WoW. The raiding in FFXIV is more about killing the bosses than clearing a path inside a dungeon.

Dungeons will have decent scenery but they do not get anymore interesting. Optional paths range from nothing to a ten yard hallway in plain view to a shitty treasure chest that most groups will just ignore. They do not get better at all, so have fun.

Lets discuss why rdm was a shit job in XI and would make a shitter job in XIV.
Red Mage in XI brought the complete delusion that you were a jack of all trades by giving you balanced stats all across the board but also giving you unique spells specific to you that focused on either enhancing you and only you or just being an enfeebling nuke. It was a garbage job that people only wanted for having heals alongside the debuffs which was far more desirable than the white mage who was only good at healing.
So why wouldn't it translate well into XIV? How do you put a class thats a jack of all trades into an MMO with a holy trinity system? How would it fit in with the already existing BLM and WHM if they use specific elements to themselves.

I always feel like I have to get through content as fast as possible to reach endgame and I don't feel like enjoying myself. I want to do the extreme trials for ARR to get the mounts but I feel like I'm hindering my progress to Heavensward endgame and it bothers me.

Fire I: medium cast time, generates 1 astral fire. Uses more MP and deals more damage with more astral fire buffs.
Fire II: long cast time, generates astral fire, aoe attack.
Fire III: LOOOOOONG cast time, generates 3 astral fires, great damage, consumes A FUCK TON of mana. Use it ONLY as first fire skill or when you get a firestarter buff (you can use it instant and 0MP cost)
Fire IV: "short" cast time, deals a FUCKTON of damage but doesn't generate astral fire.
So you end up using: Fire 3 to begin with 3 astral fires, Fire IV as your big DPS skill and Fire 1 to keep the Astral Fire buff up if you couldn't use an instant Fire 3.

It's all down to raid design too, in Gordias MCH and BRD isn't so clear cut, and in turns like AS2 a Bard is definitely better, maybe even AS1.
So the Raid tier after Midas will be crucial to Bard's future.

I don't know what else there could be that could be a draw to the game. No one plays XIV for PVP, and stuff like Diadem or Deep Dungeon are pretty short term experiments. Verminion soured the well on mini-games and nothing short of Blitzball is going to make players accepting of them again.
The only thing I could think of is new jobs which we aren't going to see until the next expansion, which is why for 4.x they really need to do scheduled job releases spread throughout the patch, rather than dumping them all at once like they did for Heavensward. It would probably make balancing easier as well.

To fit into XIV's trinity, it can pretty much only be reinvented. I'd vote for RDM to fill a melee BRD/MCH role. It could have a couple of fairly simple weaponskills following a priority system (short cooldowns, self buffs and dots to reapply, procs that should be used immediately). Enfire, -thunder, and -blizzard could be OGCD buffs akin to the MNK's 'fists of' abilities. Party-wide Haste could be its Battle Litany/Foe Req/Hypercharge equivalent, and the number would have to be carefully considered. Just a little speed can mess up many rotations, primarily with dot and Enochian reapplication, but a lot of speed can open up entirely new rotations for classes to swap to mid-fight, which would be my preference. Way more interesting that way, like BLM's dropping fire 1 out completely during burn phases or DRG's squeezing two full thrusts between each chaos.
The real onus of maintaining RDM flavor I'd stick in the Cross-class system, and it's primary dps tool, Chainspell. Instead of reliance on things like B4B and Invig, it could have those tools pre-built in, freeing up its cross-class abilities for any customized mix of basic magic spells. Resurrection would probably be mandatory. Fire and it's ilk would have to be relegated to piercing talon status until the RDM built up enough Chainspell stacks (through use of weaponskills, most likely), which for a short time would make all those spells instant and off the GCD. So RDM dps would spike when it was activated, allowing them to alternate between weaponskill>thunder>weaponskill>fire>etc. And also allow them to instant rez or instant cure if needed. I don't think a DPS class being able to situationally heal for ~half the efficacy of a healing class is completely out of the question.

Dragon's Dogma Online did a similar thing with Arisen. Just have some big event that requires more to be made. Heck, you could say they've been a secret group working in the shadows since Dalamud came down.
It makes equally less sense that the current Warrior of Light who went through the 2.X could be an Au'ra which were unknown on this continent until 3.X.

Honestly if DRK had Grit free of MP/off GCD, Blood Weapon allowed in Grit, Souleater HP drain outside of Grit, Delirium applying Blunt resist as well as INT down for MNK synergy same as WAR+NIN, MP restoration from Ballad and shit allowed with Darkside and Dark Arts Dark Dance adding more Parry rather than trying to add Dodge, WAR would still probably be an overall better tank.

Beastmaster is THE solo class.
Scholar is basically red mage with better everything except debuffs and no meele, meaning you played it like a black mage solo except gravity and sleep didn't suck, also they had the best dots in the game.
SUmmoner is a fucking pet classed that was also renowened for its soloing prowess thanks to free avatar perp costs.
Blue mage could easily be setup to do fucking anything in this game, just because most used it as a dps setup doesn't mean they couldn't run a mitigation setup with regains for solo.

Honestly midas' mechanic fest doesn't interest me at all, the only remotely difficult thing is the ball phases in a7s because there's randomness there that requires situational awareness + reaction and improvisation.
Mechanics by themselves require no skill at all, it's just a matter of putting in the hours until you've memorized it.
It's like if someone asked you to memorize the first 100 digits of Pi. Yeah it's 'difficult', you could probably do it if you sat there for a couple of days, but its not the kind of challenge you would be particularly proud of beating.

I miss back in 2.X when fights were generally more reaction based.
Fights like Titan where you just had to deal with bomb sets and Landslide and Melusine was just gazes and curses, you could pretty much go into these fights without seeing them and have a general idea what to do to succeed, and they were the most fun I've had in this game.

There's also no confirmation at all that Echo is part of her power. In fact, there's evidence against it because the Ascians have Echo too. It may very well just be something that allows her to contact someone in the first place because their soul is opened.

I'm assuming its your first healer. If so diurnal sect is your main sect and you heal like a whm, nocturnal sect is trash and you will only use it for fun. Keep regen on tank 24/7 and realize that aspecred helios regens are enough for most raid damage, unless you're in a savage raid.
Synastry takes effect even if you heal the person its on, so you put it on a tank and use benefic 2 on them you will heal them for the benefic 2 amount + half of that, its very situational and not that great but its good to keep in mind for a bind. Synastry is also your way of applying boosted regens.
NEVER FUCKING USE CELESTIAL OPPOSITION FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN EXTENDING YOUR LUMINEFEROUS AETHER.

BRDs skill ceiling is way too fucking high (2nd perhaps only to WAR imo, and even that is debatable) for the amount of dps it provides. There's a fucking shitload of abilities to weave into your rotation and it's RNG heavy as well. BRD is still a great job, but it's extremely difficult to play it at a high level. Otherwise, you're there as a cleanse for the WAR and songs for your casters.

I'm a bit late to this thread but i'd like to say that while FFXIV is the only MMO i have ever played, i'd welcome this so much. It's inconvenient and a timesink sure but i think the most fun i've had with this game was when i was exploring the areas i've never been to. Teleporting everywhere is convenient but i'd change it for some more immersive stuff in a heartbeat.

To play bard optimally you need very fast reactions to make good use of procs, and a lot of experience to get used to the priority system. The opener is also a massive clusterfuck you won't see in most other classes. BLM, DRG, MNK, NIN are all easier DPS jobs to play at a decent level.
