any good mods that are compatible with tale of two wastelands?
>>
Personally, Fallout 3 is my favourite in the series. The isolation and overall feel of it is what does it for me.

New Vegas is great and all, but I don't feel isolated, I don't really feel like its a wasteland, just a desert, and people who don't know how to take care of buildings...I don't know if that really makes any sense, but isolation was a big part of why I enjoyed 3 so much. It was incredibly hard for me to put 3 down, but NV and 4 just don't stick with me like 3 did.
>>
Is it just me or is playing a melee character actually challenging in this game?

Like I'm walking around at level 30+ with all the defensive augments you can imagine and a melee skill 100 Blade of the West and I STILL have to be careful about how I handle enemy encounters because one wrong move will get me killed.

You take on bounties, killing NPC's from all over Mojave. Most of the characters have voice-acting and most of it is decent too. There are some twists along the way too, give it a shot. Keep in mind that 1 is not nearly as good as 2 but 1 is still solid for a mod. Haven't had a chance to play 3 yet.

>>
>>338184715
Alright
Fallout Three is a terrible game, and before you dismiss my opinions, hear me out. First off, the story isn't about you. It is about the character's Dad. And when after the character's dad dies, it shifts from your dad to Paladin Lyons. You are just sort of there to witness it. Also, the ending only had two outcomes. Either A) you sacrificed yourself, instantly becoming the hero, or B) you let Lyons do it, making you a coward while the true hero of the FO3 story makes the sacrifice. Also. look at all the reviews and you see basically everyone saying how awesome the new vats system is. Bethesda clearly put in more time modeling the gore than into the actual story. Speaking of story, remember when you had to leave the vault, and all of those vault guards you had to slaughter? You had no choice to kill them, no option to try to talk your way out. The only choice you get is with the vault bully and you either save his mom or leave her to die. Meanwhile, FO2, as you do your initial ritual, you are faced with a fellow villager who tells you that you have to be prepared to kill basically anyone and that you *had* to fight him. However, there was an option to persuade to the villager that violence isnt always the option. Continue?

-Sweetroll incident

those ants and bugs didnt attend your fucking birthday, nor did they see you grow up, become your friends
>>
>>338184203
>I don't feel isolated enough

I don't get this complaint. There are more towns in NV for story reasons, and not as many cookie-cutter metro systems to explore, but the desert is still vast, filled with hostiles, and you can go the entire game with no companion just as easily as 3.

What kills me about FO3 is, its brevity. Not that its merely a short game, but, there is almost zero reason to replay it after the first game. There are very very few choices that matter, at all, so everything you can do you can do in the very first game you play, minus some minor non-nonsensical quirks like blowing up Megaton or putting fluoride in the water purifier (the later of which doesn't even change anything remotely in Broken Steel besides refluffed text).

There's not near as much reason to replay as in NV, where you can't make an All 10 SPECIAL all 100 skills character every single game. You have to make choices that affect your game, different ways to play the ending, different experiences, etc. You could play NV over and over because you change your playstyle where as in FO3 the Lone Wander can essentially do everything and anything.

>Comparing not being able to talk it out with animals to not being able to talk it out with able-minded police men who have (or should have) personalities and history with your character in the close-knit vault community

>Can either give or fight to keep your sweetroll
Has no consequences, same scene occurs no matter what
>Save Amata/Bully Amata/Leave Amata
Has no consequences, same scene occurs no matter what
>Let Overseer Live/Kill him
Has little consequences, difference being a slightly more pissed Amata who still talks to you before you leave the vault and begs you to come back to help then insists you leave again after you save them, and killing the Overseer just replaces him with a guy with the exact same viewpoint in the later quest.
>Save Butch Mom/Leave her
Credit where it's due, this is a good one for character defining and has actual changes later on for whether Butch can join you later or not.

>inb4 'but Kill Tribal/Talk it out/Steal his key all have the same consequences no matter which you choose'!
The difference in that it defines how your character operates, and serves an important lesson to teach you that there's always going to be more than one way to skin a cat, offering decisions beyond 'nice thing mean thing'.

Be honest with me /v/ because I just want to know:

Would things be different for Obsidian if they breached a meager 1 point? Would they be better off financially in a big way or was it just a minor bonus that was shitty not to give them but didn't hurt them in the grand scheme? Do I have journalists to thank for not ever getting a Fallout New Vegas 2 or is that wishful thinking?

I dunno.

Why would want another game set in New Vegas, though? I'd rather they change it up a bit, take it to Seattle or something.
>>
>>338188606
I guess you have Bethesda to thank for not getting NV2. They didn't want it. They saw with Skyrim that they can easily make the games themselves and get money by the boatload. No need to outsource.
Might be possible that New Vegas never even had a chance of breaking 85 points because Bethesda explicitly told reviewers to keep it low.
>>
>>338189121
Oh, I'd actually prefer further east, go mid-west (not sure what's happening there), I just used 'New Vegas 2' as a general name for yet another Obsidian Fallout.

Maybe Texas, I think that'd be interesting to see how shit is going down east of the Legion but west of the last two mainline games.
>>
>>338189209
Right, so, just boycott Bethesda until they give Obsidian another shot and more than 8 months to make a game.

I think I live without ES 6 at this rate, waiting for them to streamline the 18 skill branches into just three (Warrior Mage Rogue skill trees) at E3.

I've played NV on console dozens of times and now I'm about to play it on PC for the first time.

I have two question

1) The DLC comes with it and I've never played it before? Is it any good?

2) I only like aesthetic mods, like texture improvements, weather changes etc, is there any good mods for these?
>>
>>338192618
Install YUP before you do anything else

And if you want texture packs like NMC, OjoBeuno, WMR or whatever else you'll also need to download the ArchiveInvalidation File Generator

It's all on Nexus. Oh, and Nevada Skies does weather if you want to look into that

From reaching the bump limit

It's surprisingly good because it actually takes lessons from new vegas for once, there's like a dozen optional things for each quest, different ways to complete a quest, and three warring factions with three different endings, there's even a reference to Dead Money and Vera Keyes, plus around three to four actual SPECIAL/Perk Checks

At the very least it seems like Bethesda might be improving, not that Obsidian diehards want to ever admit that Bethesda could ever do good at this point

People need to keep the pressure on them until they realize their whole design philosophy is skewered, even if that means harassing the devs personally just to get the message to the team

I really am just waiting for the years to pass until the day FO1 and 2 are mostly completely forgotten and RPG's die out for good. That way Fallout can just be the pure shooter Beth wants it to be without worrying about catering to a fanbase that has died out anyways. In the long run, it'll be a lot less painful for all of us if we just pretended classic Fallout never existed.

NCR, personally

There's various reasons to assume: ranging from the fact that they were canonically the strongest force in the game (IIRC the armies of Caesar were all concentrated along the colorado but the detachment of NCR was a fraction of the mainland force)?

The leaders of Caesar's Legion die in all but 1 of the 4 endings. House dies in all but 1. The NCR leaders all live in every ending besides the Legion's, three out of four. IT seems clear the NCR is likely to still be a force in the Mojave no matter what.

Bear and Bull is a reference to market trends. On Wall Street, bulls and bears are in a constant struggle.

A bull market is when everything in the economy is great, people are finding jobs, gross domestic product (GDP) is growing, and stocks are rising. Picking stocks during a bull market is easier because everything is going up. Bull markets cannot last forever though, and sometimes they can lead to dangerous situations if stocks become overvalued. If a person is optimistic and believes that stocks will go up, he or she is called a "bull" and is said to have a "bullish outlook".

A bear market is when the economy is bad, recession is looming and stock prices are falling. Bear markets make it tough for investors to pick profitable stocks. One solution to this is to make money when stocks are falling using a technique called short selling. Another strategy is to wait on the sidelines until you feel that the bear market is nearing its end, only starting to buy in anticipation of a bull market. If a person is pessimistic, believing that stocks are going to drop, he or she is called a "bear" and said to have a "bearish outlook".

General Oliver is basically a war criminal. Every instance of the army getting fucked over by locals or the Legion is his fault.

He gets a whole bunch of his own men killed waiting for a battle to end all battles, and then a whole heap more of them killed when it actually starts. Even Lanius agrees taking the Dam was too easy when you've slaughtered your way through his troops to get to him. That's how badly Oliver fucked up.
>>
>>338208140
there would be no NV

most of NV's plot was from Van Buren
>>
>>338208407
I remember the two Colonels were much more competent by comparison, was the NCR's dragging their feet at all caused by Moore or Hsu's decisions or was it ALL Oliver? I recall even Kimball told him to move in and secure the Mojave
>>
>>338208407

Is it just me or did Oliver seriously have the worst lines in the whole game? Not just horrible voice acting, but worst written. Literally nobody talks like that in real life, unless you're some blatantly fictional book character with an entire page of uninterrupted goofy dialogue. It's just so lopsided next to the well written bits.
>>
>>338208748
A good VA can carry subpar writing. The character is meant to be a real weenie, though.
You may have already known this but Oliver was meant to have a unique VA as well, but they bailed right before recording so the team had to use one of their generic voice guys

Oliver earned the nickname General Wait and See because he orders all his troops to hold their positions and do nothing, all in preparation for the bloodbath at the Dam

Hsu has to sit right outside the Fiend controlled portion of Vegas, I don't think he'd order his troops to sit around doing nothing unless he was told to. Likewise, Moore was a veteran of the BoS war and prefers you to just kill people rather than negotiate so I doubt she would be the type to willingly sit around with her thumb up her ass.

It's also Oliver's idea to have the Veteran Rangers dicking around in Baja and the Rangers on the Dam in an untenable position that's going to get them slaughtered if/when the troopers retreat.

To his credit:

He DID win the first battle of Hoover Dam pretty handily. He knew his enemy and played them like a fiddle. He sniped veterans kept at the back of the Legion's forces using snipers safely from a distance, pulled the superior numbered force into Boulder City when they couldn't hold the dam anymore, and blew them all up in one fell swoop.

I think Oliver has some skills as a general but, yeah, holding the Dam instead of pushing on to finish the Legion while it was weak was retarded, what was the reason for that?

Oliver is way too defensive, and Legion is way too aggressive
>Oliver ruses Legion into trapped Boulder City
>they get fucking destroyed
>Oliver doesn't even push back across the dam to take the other side, just keeping the same position
Fuck me oliver, grow some balls. They could have eradicated the Legion in the Mojave

Hanlon was responsible for that. The troopers were in full retreat and if it wasn't for the Rangers doing what they do best, they would have lost the battle altogether.

That's why he's so pig headed and makes all the retarded choices for the Second Battle. He wants a straight up meatgrinder where the troopers beat the Legion through sheer bloody determination because it would "outshine" Hanlon's genius. That's why he does nothing. He wants the Legion to come storming over the Dam so he can play Last Stand.

The Legion's problem at Boulder City was that they were led by Joshua Graham. His tactical expertise extended no further than "run at the enemy, kill them all, never die because I'm Joshua Motherfucking Graham"

Lanius might believe in fighting honourably, by throwing his troops into the grinder, but he's not a complete idiot and would've seen it coming

Oh, fucking, that's right. I almost forgot Hanlon's dialogue, was he the one behind that strategy?

No wonder he didn't give a shit about this war anymore. Poor guy had the right idea.

Hanlon has some choice things to say about Oliver's lack of critical thinking but it's House that spells it out for you

>General Oliver's strategy - or "tunnel vision," as I like to call it - has been to mass troops at Hoover Dam.
>He wants to out-fight the Legion in a straight-forward slugging match, and then, when they rout, pursue and destroy them in detail.
>A crushing, decisive victory of this sort would overshadow the tactical ingenuity of Chief Hanlon's defense four years ago, you see.

And from Hanlon when you've rumbled him
>Oliver can't stand that rangers got credit for victory at Hoover. Whatever I recommend, he does the opposite. I said I wanted them on the ridge.
>He put them right on the western part of the dam itself. We don't have enough firepower to hold that spot.
>If the troopers fall back, and they will, the rangers will advance to cover Oliver's retreat. We lose the dam, Oliver and the senate are ruined.
