Dishonored 2 Corvo Revealed
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2016/05/11/get-reacquainted-with-corvo-attano-from-dishonored-2.aspx
Thoughts?
Kinda shitty, though I wasn't a fan of his outfit in the first game either.
>>337308906
This looks like one of those "black mannequin" models
>>337308906
looks like some retarded thing people on /fa/ want to wear.
Hood looks a little wonky with the vest but its okay.
>>337308906
>Turned him into a DYEL
NO
>>337308906
Woah, his new costume is cool as hell! Dishonored 2 is probably my most anticipated game right now. The original was the best stealth game of last generation and possibly my favorite new IP of last gen.
>>337309667
Don't know what you're trying to pull copy and pasting comments from the article but ok I guess.
>>337309923
Not sure I'm completely on board with giving Corvo a voice. That said, if anyone's going to do it then Stephen Russell is the man for the job. An excellent casting call.
>>337309667
Why would you copy that?
>>337309427
Nah /fa/ hates yesstyle so they'd shit on it on principle
>>337308906
It looks pretty good but the hard angles everywhere give it a strangely futuristic look
>>337309667
I know you are memeing but it really bothers me that there are people who actually think this.
Any "stealth game" where stealth is totally optional is just shit.
>those fucking massive hands
>>337309923
He thinks he's le epic trollman for acting like a viral marketer
>>337310069
I don't think I will have a problem adjusting to a voiced character. Unlike most people I don't really think about what kind of response my cipher would give. I just accept it as a silent character and move on to focus on the rest of the game.
I want to fuck /fa/ Corvo.
Infinitely better than Hatred Columbine Corvo
>>337310075
>thief is shit
retard get out
>>337309427

hahaha, fucking koreans man
Do we have any pics of fat american weeaboos actually trying to wear this type of stuff?
>>337308906
>voiced protagonist
its what killed the Dead Space franchise (among other things)
>>337310073
the hood needs sleeves
I hope it's canon that he didn't die so that he can come back
>>337310283
Daud got a voice in the DLC.
Emily's gonna be voicing aswell, and chances are you're gonna somewhat interact with Corvo playing as her, it'd be downright retarded not to give Corvo a voice.
>>337310345
He'sAlive
>>337310283
So glad that silent protagonists are dying out. They only work when no one has spoken dialogue (like Zelda where they just grunt), otherwise they feel so damn awkward (looking at YOU Skyrim).
>>337310431
daud and emily had a voice in the original game though.
>>337310485

I want to fuck Michael Madsen's voice
1. The Royal Protector is a single role, who is not "essentially bodyguard," but rather literally bodyguard, hence the name. It is not an "order", though there have likely been various Royal Protectors throughout the ages.
2. While Corvo is considered an excellent fighter, I do not see proof that he is considered one of the best in the entire world. On top of that, he is not an assassin until the game begins, and when he becomes one, he is not known to be the masked man at any point by the public, until possibly after the game itself.
3. Corvo is not a spymaster. That role went to Hiram Burrows. He went on a diplomatic mission abroad to find an answer to the rat plague, but people in game acknowledged how weird it was that the Lord Protector was sent away, meaning he is far from commonly sent. If you're looking for a spymaster assassin, that would be Daud.
"Their romance was never “official,” but TOGETHER THEY HAD A DAUGHTER NAMED EMILY."
4. Unless something came up in The Dunwall Archives, there is no proof that Corvo is indeed her father. It is speculated, both in universe and out, and Emily did write him as her "daddy" on one of her drawings, but a) this is explicitly rumors in the world, and b) she is a young child at the time possibly with wishful thinking. This is not proof of anything.
I have to wonder, honestly speaking, if Ben Reeves has actually played the game of Dishonored 1, or if he skimmed articles about it elsewhere. I am not saying this out of insults, but out of genuine interest in if the author of an article about the game that is the cover story of this month's magazine played the prior game before writing an article ostensibly meant to reintroduce and remind people about one of the most important characters of the franchise.
I'm glad they ditched the silent protagonist crap, it should definitely make for a stronger narrative. That, and Stephen Russell is an incredible upgrade.
Really looking forward to it.
Once news starts picking up and when the game gets released I'm going to avoid /v/ for like 6 months though.
I don't have the patience for false flag marketing threads and a hoard of neckbeards crying that Emily isn't playable.
Voiceless protagonists are a lazy, lazy trope that's way out of date, you'll be okay.
Looks like shit, Corvo's suit in Dishonored 1 was way better and fit the environment better, even with all the enhancements his mask gave.
Isn't Corvo in his late forties by this point with a full beard and whatnot? Shouldn't he want to stick with what works, a little dusty but still able to get the job done?
>>337310941

>voiced protag in a stealth game
Let me just puke some more.
This is the worst "trend" in these new games. It's never done well and it's always a crutch for the developer to tell the player where to go. It's also always used in tangine with "I can do this, I'M EMOTING" or "witty comment"
Even with good writing it's going to sound corny as fuck because it's a video game. You can get inside a main characters head without them talking. If you need the main character to talk in a video game you missed the point of it being a video game.
>>337310814
there's a hidden easter egg in the level where you assassinate the Lord Regent that makes it fairly explicit that Emily is the child of the Empress and Corvo. In the form of an audiographn recoreded by the Empress for Emily, to quote:
"Emily, my daughter, I know that one day you’ll be grown up, and I wonder what you’ll remember of these years. Will you recall your time as a child with fondness? Or were there too many caretakers, formal dinners and lessons about boring old history? Maybe the precious hours we spent together will shine brighter - time captured now and then with your mother and with Corvo, who was always close to my heart. I hope the season of rats and plague will be nothing more than a passing shadow on your early memories. A crisis come and passed, weathered by your mother and her advisors. You’ll sit on the throne someday, and will do well I hope. It’s a tricky life, full of responsibility and peril. It was not your choice to be the daughter of an Empress, but I believe you’ll rise to the challenge. Stay good-hearted, Emily. Keep drawing and telling stories. And only share your power with those you truly trust."
>>337308906
>Hooded vest
>>337310094
Dishonored has always featured giant fucking hands.
>>337310345
Considering his DLC was all about regretting what he had done, regardless of how you played it, I figure he survived and ran off to some unknown place to start anew.
Daud was also their proof that a voiced protagonist could work really well within the game.
>>337311949
they're not... Though
>>337308906
Is that Geratt from THIEF
>>337312526
>He's never played Knife of Dunwall
He only spoke to narrate intermissions and some times when talking with story NPCs handing out missions. In the main game you had the Heart which could talk constantly if you wished it to.
>>337312526
But they have no choice but to add voice lines.
It's going to mainly be from the perspective of Emily, apparently. How on earth are they going to have it naturally flow in the context of the story that Corvo literally never speaks to the woman he's sworn to protect, and who he stays near pretty much constantly?
There will have to be dialogue, and that will lead to Corvo talking.
Now it's true it would be terrible if Corvo also spends most of his time during the mission quipping and shit, but since Daud doesn't do that and he got voice lines for the Bridgemore Witches, I think we can trust Arkane enough to leave the people silent except when they need to be during cutscenes.
You fags are making a mountain out a molehill, baselessly claiming that Corvo will be a quipmaster incarnate while talking, spoiling the whole game, when all evidence from Dishonored 1 points to the contrary.
>>337308906
Looks way too modern for the aesthetics of the stories universe.
Looks like something I would see in Human Revolution honestly.
>>337312526
the fuck you talkin' about; THE sneaking game of sneaking games (Thief series) had a voice protagonist, most if not all sneaky games have voided protag
>>337310073
The issue here was not the shirt. It's the fact that all these dudes were twinky as fuck.
It's like when a fat girl buys a dress to small for her. If you aren't in shape, you aren't going to look good in anything.
>>337313117
Garret only spoke during level intros.
>>337313000
Corvo did talk in the first game.
Just not voiced dialogue. There are conversation choices at a few points in the game.
>>337308906
Why are his hands so fucking huge
>>337310073
I'd fug the first dude's boipuss
>>337312687
If that is him, it kinda doesnt resemble him, maybe its the angle from what the photo was taken but who knows
>>337312948
Might as well be, Corvo is voiced by the same VA as old THIEF games.
Arkane made the last really good sandbox game. If you turn off all the HUD stuff in most games, you get lost because you weren't given instructions, directions or anything. They made the entire game based around these HUD elements. Dishonored wasn't. You have a mission at the very start, and learn other ways of doing it, side objectives and progressing through the stage via letters, NPC conversations and just exploring.
I hope that Prey 2 shit ends up being legit.
>>337313098
You've seen the design of the new area they're in, right? It's like 19th to 20th century British-occupied India, with a side of Steampunk.
That costume fits right in with that aesthetic. Only thing that seems off to me about it is that he still seems to look young in that profile. Older people carry themselves different from those younger, and that swagger makes him look like he's in his 20's or 30's, when he should be in his 50's or 60's by now.
Honestly, I hope that it's not like that on release, and it's just the artist's portrayal falling flat. Otherwise, that's going to suck me right out of the game--especially if a central plot point is that Corvo is old and feels the need to pass the torch on to Emily.
>>337313287
Knife of Dunwall was almost exactly the same. He had a bit of dialog during cut scenes or when picking up a quest but it was very light.
>>337313445
It's him, his hair's just short and he's older.
>>337313340
Everyone had giant hands in the first game, its just them tight ass cuffs make them stick out

>How on earth are they going to have it naturally flow in the context of the story that Corvo literally never speaks to the woman he's sworn to protect
By not showing the scenes where they talk to each other.
I'm pretty sure that Corvo also "needs" to piss and shit and get a shower from time to time in the reality of the game, but you aren't show it because you don't really need to see it.
You can have a story that flows just fine without the main character talking explicitly, you just need to imply that conversations have been had at some point, or that no conversation was needed.
>>337321129

>>337308906
I know you never really see his face in game and all, and can't see it here, but for some reason it makes me feel like he's twenty years younger.
Why the actual fuck are they making Dishonored 2 about Corvo? He already had an ending, so did Emily, why can't they just make new characters? Hell even Daud would be better for the sequel.

Also the devs confirmed Emily is Corvo's daughter outright ages ago. As if it wasn't obvious enough in game.

It actually worked really well. In Dead Space 1 you're more or less playing as yourself, in an alternate universe where you happen to be a space engineer. It allows for greater immersion and it's a great introduction into the universe. In the second game, you're playing as a guy who went through the events of the first game. You personally did not, in reality, experience any of that so the effects it has on an in-universe character are far different than, obviously, the effects it had on you as a player.
>>337333935
> Arkane concept artists
They are photobashing trend-riding "artists". If they know how to actually paint, they do not know it in the design work.

Pic related is "concept art" to these guys. I don't think there is any painting in this at all.
I don't understand this image. It's too detailed to be "key art" and it's not detailed enough to be finished art. It makes no sense. Key art is suppose to be lose so you DON'T look at the details and take in the whole scene as an impression.

Well technically that means instant game-over for a player if he is detected by the enemy. Alot of games fall for that category like MGS or SC, Hitman too in his own way. Just make a check list and see for yourself. The only thing that differs is the fact that for many of these games detection of the player doesn't mean instant game over

Anon it's okay to admit you haven't played the games.
>>337339373
Yes you are able to do that, but not just like that. And in Thief you can't do it on the hardest difficulty because murder grants you a game over.
In Doom 1 you can kill a zombie in 2 shots from the pistol. But the zombie has to shoot you a dozen times to kill you. In stealth games, including Thief, it's the other way around. Garrett only has a tenth of the health that guards and monsters do, but more options and mobility. Stealth games are all about not engaging because you can't engage on the enemy's terms.

I think we can say with certainty the subhumans complaining about Corvio being voiced have been resoundingly BTFO. Like, what a stupid position to hold in the first place, the fact that Corvo was mute in the first game was widely agrees drawback to the game, especially with the way its presented in that you are playing as an already established character with a defined history and personality, rather than just a self-insert.
>"But when he turned 18, Corvo was assigned to serve the Emperor in Dunwall, where he was ultimately assigned to protect the young princess Jessamine Kaldwin. He was 19, and she was 12 – but when Jessamine was 18, they became lovers."

Okay, so I have good things to say about this article, and bad ones.
The good: I love his new outfit, and like the specs put out about his Vital Stats and Powers.
The bad: Pretty much everything else. Here I'll go into depth. For sake of "bold," I will instead capitalize. The "bolded" areas indicate that there is a serious discrepancy between game material and article material. For each paragraph I am analyzing, I will then number the things different in order that they appear.
"As fans of the original Dishonored already know, Corvo is an ex-soldier who joined THE ROYAL PROTECTORS, who are essentially bodyguards to the Emperor. Corvo quickly came to be known as THE MOST CAPABLE SOLDIER/ASSASSIN IN THE WORLD. Quiet and calculating, he is also a BRILLIANT SPYMASTER WHO TRAINED WITH THE BEST."
>>337341539
Yeah I was surprised to Corvo being that tall, I mean, is he taller than average in that universe then? Because he's as tall as anyone else. Seems like an asspulled number.
>>337339161
New Garrett looked like he was into goth BDSM scene. New Corvo looks like he's wearing futuristic clothing.
>>337341735
>next to nothing has been shown for the new game
>WHY CANT U GUYS TALK ABT PRODUCTIVE THINKGS STOP HAVING FUN
>>337341806
In short, I thank you for reacquainting me with Corvo Attano, for this version of him is definitely not the one I played in Dishonored 1, and goes against everything I saw.
>>337341730

I know it's actually Corvo you dullards. What's the 'official' explanation meant to be? That they tell the whole city? That the Empress got pumped and dumped??
But since so many people replied with the same thing I guess I phrased it really badly, so I am sorry.
>>337340903
Are they going to meet after shift for Cigars though?
>>337342336
They're french, they don't need to.

In a good way.

I just hope there's difficulty round the level of the ultimate difficulty mod, just with more leniency in regards to sprint sound distance.
That mod made the guards wonderfully alert, but in those situations where you needed to do A running jump everyone in the whole fucking level heard you.
I just don't get what's wrong with visibility gems nowadays, no dev wants to tell you how visible you are. I wouldn't even mind a vignette effect like in nuThief.
>daily reminder that the Thief fan mission community will never get ahold of the fox engine tools and add actually cool bases to sneak in MGS5
Seriously, MGS5 had 3 cool places, best of which was Code Talker's mansion.
>>337342394
Indeed, I believe so.

There's a reason Emily is out there killing dudes instead of ruling.

It's a shame you can't summon a swarm of piranhas as a water alternate.
I was disappointed there were no sharks in Dishonored's water. There are cooked sharks at Lady Boyle's, but none that can actually eat you. Would have been cool to have a few swimming around the flooded district.
If Corvo is such a great swordsman why was he always getting wrecked by random guards when I played Dishonored?
>>337342965
I couldn't remember but were there animals that you couldn't control in the game? I remember the dogs but I didn't control them in my playthrough.
>>337342596
>Styx
At least it's getting a sequel.
>>337343048
He spent his time in jail getting tortured. He got rusty and needs a little familiarization toget gud
>>337342376
I was wondering this. You'd think in a hereditary monarchy that kind of shit would be quite important.
>>337330159
>>337329795
Right? He killed my fucking Queen-sidepiece. Unforgivable.
Heart lines during that mission:
"Why have you brought me here? Am I meant to forgive this man for what he did?"
"No! There is no turning back from the path he has chosen!"
I hope they make sword combat a bit more responsive.
Stabbing people in D1 felt like stabbing air.
Shall we gather for whiskey and cigars tonight?
>>337343412
Indeed I believe so.

>>337339354
Thanks. These look amazing.
>>337329795
There's literally none.
>he was only doing his job!
Yeah, which was throwing the kingdom into chaos and abducting a child - because he's literally a murderer for hire.
>b-but he chose not to kill Corvo!
Only because he wasn't paid to.
>b-but he's so cool!
Sure, still a murdering dickhead though.
>C-corvo should show mercy on low chaos playthroughs!
He's literally crueler to his main targets on low chaos than high, and has no reason to spare Daud eother way.
I'm pissed that him being spared is canon.
>>337343724
>I'm pissed that him being spared is canon.
Think of it! Now you can kill him twice!
>>337343681
Oh no I'm not arguing, just weirded out that being the good guy has you hardly using any of 70% of your gadgets while the power upgrades are mostly lethal at lvl 2. Not a lot of options for a fresher non-lethal things.
>all those Emily combos
Domino is going to be so fucking neat
I hope they have some ways to poison people. Something like NPCs occasionally eat food from cans or whatever around the map, the kinda you loot in Dishonored 1, and you can go around poisoning shit
>>337343532
It's well known that Dishonored was butchered by brain dead QA.
>>337344131
I feel like it wasn't as severe as people think. Lady Boyle is the only level I think they fully fucked up
Give a bitch a drink, she calls outs 2 of the 3 colors
Talk to a single guy, he is the nonlethal method and says who the target is
The 2nd floor of the building is pointless
Any gameplay leaks out there? I saw some screenshots, is that are all there is?
>>337344454
e3 probably
>>337344362
>Corvo so alpha he rejects rich slut to stay loyal to his dead waifu
>>337344454
Wait for Beth conference. I feel like they will show 2 ways to do the same part of the mission. One as Emily killing, and one as Corvo stealth.
>>337344813
They will also reveal the other Arkane new game
>>337344913
Interesting. Wonder what genre they'll be tackling.
>>337344982
>>337344913
Its Prey 2
Same sandbox style of Dishonored built around bounty hunting.
>>337345020
So Dishonored but with a dead or alive + thievery missions?
>>337345102
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfHCZAK7p-s
>>337345102
Not sure about thievery, but same concept as Dishonored. You can do it lethally, probably much easier or non-lethally by other means which usually requires getting the body somewhere. Lot of verticality in level design and gadgets to use
>>337342376
It says in the book excerpt about her that she inherited from her Father really young. Presumably before she got pregnant, so she was already Empress and had the power to tell anyone who asked to fuck off and the power as ruler to legitimize a bastard like Emily.
>>337344362
2nd floor has clues for who the Boyle is, the guy who just gives the answer happens on a variable timer (because playtesters were too dumb, nothing wrong with taking your time, but yeah)
>>337342596
The sequel just needs some proper marketing and it should do okay. Styx is one of the best sneeki games in recent years.
The only defining feature he had was his mask, and they ruined that. Just looks like a generic grunt now.
>>337315818
Combat is probably less viable in the newest hitman than in previous titles. You die really fast.
>>337344982
>>337344913pls be Dark Messiah 2 pls be Dark Messiah 2

>if you play as emily corvo is apparently dead
That seems like a missed opportunity. It would have been interesting to finally see them interact now that corvo is voiced.
>>337345852
I would rather just a game building on the gameplay style of it in a completely new setting than a straight up sequel.
>>337333292
>shitting on Viktor Antonov
End yourself
>>337328689
>>337345890
This is wrong.
Dishonored 2 goes off another ending, so none of the endings in the first game are canon. Corvo isn't dead if you play Emily. There is probably some ingame interaction regardless of who you pick, the other probably does reconnaissance and gives hints to help new players figure out ways to do the assassination.
Like how in Knife of Dunwall you had assassins at the start and during missions tell you shit
>>337308906
Nice and simple
>>337346197
Tons of citations needed in this retarded post
>>337341897
Pendleton says everyone knew Corvo was banging the empress so it's probably public knowledge at that point.
>>337343532
At least the DLC gives you a few more options for playing non-lethally.
It was fucking bullshit how the electric mines in the main game were a lethal weapon instead of just stunning.
>>337346197
Couldn't it just go off of the golden or neutral endings where Corvo's alive and Daud is spared? I don't think it breaks any of the sacred avowed rules of canon.
>>337346932
Gameinformer states its canon Daud is spared, and Emily is saved. So high/low chaos probably doesn't matter. Its probably some middle ground.
>>337328916
The missions are the same regardless of the character you pick, so its not in different points in time.
>>337343724
>this faggot doesn't like daud
>>337347096
So the low chaos good ending, where Daud is spared and Emily is saved?
I don't understand.
>>337346197
That's not what the guy was talking about. If you play as Emily Corvo is supposedly dead because their stories are not running parallel to one another, but at different points in time.
>>337332459
That would be great if they gave Corvo dialogue that made him seem like the daddest dad ever with horrible jokes.
>"Damn, I'm wounded..."
>"Hello Wounded, I'm dad."
>>337347936
Better than a deadpan mute or an over-protective father personality
>>337347182
He just fucking said that chaos level doesn't matter.
>>337347936

>>337348293
>he doesn't enjoy cheesy dad jokes
>>337314004
Strange how when I played Corvo I felt like he was pointless and honestly just a cuck to get jobs done.
But when playing as Daud I felt like the baddest mother fucker to walk the land, that and his power was way better than Corvo's power of rats.
>he was 19, she was 12
>when she was 18 they became lovers
This was 1800s, there's no fucking way he waited 6 years to start hitting that. Maybe when she was 14
>>337311662
your life is a meme you stupid fuck
>>337312526
>This is the worst "trend" in these new games
>when they had it in fucking Thief
>>337349947
Intercourse with a child was frowned upon in the 1800's.
Does it matter what he's supposed to look like when it's from first person perspective? You won't even see your guy.
And if they seriously are going to give him dialogue i hope it's as minimal as possible. It's really used to have some wise cracking and super quippy MC
>>337349947
Not everyone wants to bang someone that young.
>Dark vision now works more like a sonar and sends out three pulses to give you a sense of your surrounding area
Probably for the best, it was kind of broken last game
>>337351479
Corvo and Emily will have monologues like Daud does, kinda story introductions to characters and location of missions
>>337309667
> best stealth game
It aint got shit on Thief.
>>337349967NOW THERE'S A PRETTY MEME, EXQUSITE
>>337310345

>>337308906
He doesn't look older at all.
He looks like a fucking 20 year old in that outfit.
I would have expected someone dressed to look 40.

>of the last generation
Dishonored shit on Thi4f.
Will Corvo finally be able to move on and get a new waifu in this game?
>>337334156
I dont agree desu. Isaacs history is barely touched upon beyond his relationship with the girl, but its enough make you understand where hes coming from and also makes it interesting to his sanity crumble.
>>337335323
Have you...?
>>337349396
Me too. Corvos lacked character and it the quests feel like oddjobs for randoms.
>>337342376
It's left unexplained, but the rumor persists that it's Corvo. The reign of the late Emperor was actually really good, and Jasmine's reign had no major issues until the rat plague. So nobody really brought up too much issue with their being no official father for Emily. Emperors and Kings had illegitimate children all the time.
