I loved it when it came out too. I stayed off /v/ for a few weeks after release so I could do a few full playthroughs without anything getting spoiled. I was pretty fucking surprised when I eventually started reading /v/ again to see everyone shitting on it. I still feel like it's a very loud vocal minority that shits on the game here and the majority of souls fans and sane people like the game.
Playing it again after finishing DaS 3. DaS 2 is just so much more fun to play. The only thing I miss from 3 is the charged heavy attacks.

I had to rotate saves for the multiple novelty builds I did to keep invading low-level players. After PvPing at SL100-120 too much I'd start getting guys at obscene levels which made builds not matter at all and OP shit was fucking everywhere.

Adaptability is an important stat. I frames when you roll happen closer to the start of the roll rather than the middle or end. Higher agility (gained by leveling adp or atn) increases the number of i frames in your roll. 105 agility and <50% equip load gives you a roll identical to ds1 fast roll.
Or don't bother with any of that and tank everything with a tower shield, that's viable too.
Also don't autistically stick to one weapon, you have 3 weapon slots per hand and are expected to use them. Some areas of the game are absurdly difficult without a ranged weapon. If you don't want to level dex for a bow or int for sorceries at least bring throwing knives, they aren't useless like they were in ds1.
