I don't think that's a fair review at all desu OP. The dude bitched more so about how he wasn't attacked by the AI but then was attacked by the AI and never really fixed his point.
The dude missed a lot of mentions about how the game is played out. Paradox games are generally solid 90% of the time. It's kind of like endless legend where the base game is a bit meh but the ultimate expansion based game will have loads more to it. Just give it time OP, development takes time :V

It's bad because there's a lot of holes in the review compared to the rest. He complains about alot of facts like bad diplomacy yet if you go watch the live stream that's going on right now there is a fuck load of diplomacy going on and each race has unique diplomatic modifiers to them.
IGN reviews are always flawed, no matter how you look at them, this one is just one of the worse out there.

I feel like making a GS game based on history/reality makes it easier to come up with enjoyable mechanics, scenarios, etc.
So I was already expecting Stellaris to be mediocre. But I'll see for myself when it releases.
IGN also gave EUIV higher scores than EUIII, CK2 and HOI3, and didn't even bother reviewing Victoria 2. It's kinda clear they don't like the good ones.
Granted it's probably gonna be underwhelming shit since Paradox has really started to go downhill lately.

Literally the only game that was terrible at launch was HoI3, and that's because it was plagued with memory leaks and horrible bugs.
In fact I'd rather play vanilla CK2 and EU4 than the clusterfuck that some of it is now.

That is partly the big reason why I like them so much. There's just something extra special and enjoyable about say, conquering Japan as Korea or seeing the US become a communist dictatorship, restoring the Roman or Byzantine empires in a time when they were gone, or even just following history and liberating Iberia from the Muslims. Games like CIV and even Total War don't really come close to that.
Granted I would just like more real time GS/4x games period. I've been spoiled by them and now the turn based games all feel a bit boring in comparison.

I'm just saying. There comes a point, where every year after adding more and more little finicky things you have to keep track off, it starts to become a bit of a bloated mess and it keeps you from enjoying the overarching game since you are so focused on what you have to do in this second.
It's not bad to have a game be a bit simpler, otherwise what would be the point in playing it over something like HOI3 or Vicky 2? A nice bag of chips between meals.
