Fucking hell this e3 show could be worse than the PC gaming show.
All I can remember them showing last year was Zelda and that Starfox game that ended up being mediocre.

It's not about the reveal. They talked about them at E3 after revealing them. Nintendo revealed the WiiU almost a year and a half before launch, and talked about it the next year. This is the biggest day Nintendo will have prior to the system's launch in terms of how many eyes they will have watching them, and they're just not going to talk about it. That's fucking stupid.
Not to mention the fact that Sony and Microsoft weren't coming off of failed consoles they badly needed to recover from.

No one said to put on a big stage show. Do a Digital Event like they've been doing, whatever. Don't have it playable to avoid that cost, whatever. BUT FUCKING TALK ABOUT IT.
However irrelevant you think E3 is becoming, the fact is that people have been waiting on Nintendo, waiting to see what this NX is all about, for probably a couple years now - these rumours of WiiU being abandonded early have been around for quite a while, after all. The anticipation has been building, and building, and E3 is STILL the biggest stage to do it at. Not a physical one, mind. But Nintendo will never have more eyes on them between now and launch than on the day of their Digital Event. If they do a Direct or their own event for the system later, sure lots of people will watch, but during E3, there will be a lot more people looking through the gaming news, specifically because it's E3, and ESPECIALLY because it's where everyone expected it to be. So people who don't hear about this, about the fact that the NX won't be at E3, are going to be confused, stop caring, and won't pay attention when Nintendo does finally lift the curtain.
Bottom line: E3 was - and still is, I'm hoping they face overwhelming pressure and change course - the place to do it. No matter what form it takes, there is no better place or time. And this decision is a huge mistake.

Honestly, I kind of understand why they're doing what they are.
No NX at E3 is to make sure that when they do talk about it, it'll be the only thing on the headlines. At E3 right now they'd be competing HARD with PSVR, PS4.5, Oculus, Vive, and anything MS shows off. Sure, NX would probably get the most attention individually, but not by much, and it would be a plurality of the coverage rather than a majority.
The reason for the March release is a 3DS like strategy. Christmas season this year will be $300 (possibly even $250) Xbones, PS4s, and probably a $350 PS4.5 or something. Meanwhile they'd have the NX with 1 or 2 games for $400. No way would it be the most popular item, and the lower christmas sales compared to other platforms would make it look bad in headlines. With the March 3DS style strategy, they release in March alone and get the dedicated fanbase sales, price cut sometime in September, with game bundles during black friday. If something has been out for less than 6 months, typically black friday sales for it are complete ass, but this way they could put themselves in a position (depending on game releases) to be the "hottest toy" for black friday 2017.
Basically, they're tiptoeing around the PS4.5 and VR stuff this year, and while it may be disappointing, it's smart on a business side of things.

i think the gamepad is the peak of Nintendo's controller eco-system. rather than come up with new shit for the sake of 'innovation', they should just refine that with every iteration. make it smaller, give it a better screen, better battery life, etc.; in an ideal world they'd bundle the future system with a gamepad and two pro controllers. (Or at least one.)
