I remember reading a rumor that they were considering moving to a 2017 release because VR is going to be big this holiday, and this the NX isn't VR they were afraid it was going to get "drowned out" as the inferior gimmick.
I'm 100% convinced they were initially planning a holiday 2016 release for the NX. Zelda was ALWAYS going to be a cross title and why they said it was moved to 2016, it was because that's when they were initially projecting the NX launch for.
I'm still not half convinced this all doesn't end up being changed and we still get a NX in 2016 because of massive fan backlash.

E3 Guy Here. Some call me Observer. I usually create a Post E3 topic every year. Some of you might have seen it.
Here's why they're not launching at E3.
This might be the last year for the show.
E3 has already lost 4 major exhibitors and many smaller exhibitors. The biggest companies to drop out are EA, Activision, Disney and Wargaming. These four companies have a HUGE amount of floor space. Their absence is a devastating blow to the trade show.
Many companies have been wanting to drop out for the past several years, but none had the guts to do it, fearing that doing so would give their competitors all of the spot light. Now it looks like they simply don't care any more, and they're leaving the show in huge numbers.

Every bad thing that has happened in the game industry can be traced back to Nintendo and that Playstation deal.
