Shit is so cheap at certain times. I am great at soulsborne games. Seems like you have to lure many enemies back to fight them in an open area. If you get multiple enemies on you at once it is over. Would be better if you did not stop to catch your breath wen stanima low. Enemies run towards you with now penalty

That's not true, but don't feel bad you're not alone in spreading that lie. Use a spear in mid stance (you'll swing horizontally, hitting multiple targets) and don't lock on. Take a few steps back baiting them towards to you and into a tighter group before attacking.

I don't agree. Stop running and mismanaging your stamina bar. After a technique return to your stance (Press R1) to regain expended stamina. In other words: That white/Light Blue portion of the Green Ki bar you see filling up after each attack is the maximum potential Ki you can regain after an attack, press nothing and you lose all of that potential Ki and have to wait for the bar to fill back up on it's own like dark souls. If you press it too soon you only get back a portion, if you wait and press it at the last possible instant you'll gain almost all of that Ki back. It's like reloading in gears of war. Plus there's the Pulse Skill that allows you to regain Ki by switching stances mid combo.
This is mostly unconfirmed, I'm still only decapitating brigands and the summoned revenants of may fallen fellow gamers in the starting area. Haven't even seen my first demon yet.
Only had 30 minutes to play but this seems like a really good game.
I couldn't figure how to to parry and it seems really hard to make an enemy run out of Stamina, but it feels good to have to learn a game again.
I'm glad we have ~10 days to peck at this, as it just might win me over.

I forgot to mention that enemies need to stop and catch their breath too. This is fucking great. Try to instigate this by blocking and avoiding attacks, when that fucker does stop to catch his breath hit him hard with the mid stance triangle attack and you'll drive your sword/spear through their chest (with the appropriate skill unlocked) which is very satisfying.

The item system is the one thing where they really should've straight up ripped off Souls. 3 slots is way too few for all the different useful items and skill items available. Having ordered items like in Souls would've been much better.

I did not realize that. I need to stop being a little bitch and use that stance more. It does sound handy. Man, all these ways to maintain stamina and avoid damage, but they all require intentional input. Button mashing will get you fucked fast. Plus the way lock-ons work, it's weird at first coming from Souls. But once you kill the urge to pull back reflexively (and in doing so, turning and giving your back to the enemy's weapon) and find yourself staying in that pocket, using parries, counters, perfect guards, switching stances, making specific, intentional inputs and you think HOLY SHIT this game is simulating everything romanticized in samurai films/anime. A protracted confrontation of sidesteps and stance switching a whole fight can end in just one move when the better samurai seizes an opportunity to counter. And it's fun. And it's tough as shit. I'm loving this game. day one buy.I hope there's PvP, my god.

Medium gives you a ton of block/parry options with proper skill investment, High is just for murder in a few attacks as possible.

It reminds me a ton of Onimusha with a little bit of Bloodborne (I'd say Dark Souls, but really, more so BB than DaS), and that's cool with me. I've wanted a new Onimusha for years. The very least Capcom could do is put some of the characters in the Versus Capcom games, but no, not one character from them has appeared in any of em, and that's bullshit.

Parry is guarding, then pressing either Square or Triangle with good timing. The effect of the parry/the button used varies depending on the skill equipped.
For example: Spears can get a parry ability called Twirl. Need to be in Medium stance, and you press Triangle while guarding to activate it. If it works, it instantly grounds the enemy.
Summoning is done from the shrine, but I think it pulls in a random person. Haven't tried it myself because my internet is shit.

On the other hand Ni-Oh is a game literally about a whiteman who gets shipwrecked and proceeds to slaughter the peaceful natives of feudal Japan and steal their means of defending themselves. This game represents everything wrong with the modern world.

Played a while on account of "its a cheap Dark Souls clone" and what the fuck, it actually feels like its something great rather than a shameless clone, the groundwork looks teh same but the way it plays is just on another level, its faster and has much more complex combat.
Loving that stance stuff and the combos/moves you can do, Souls games have inspired aesthetics but this game has some fucking great combat. Also like the "bloodstains" where if you touch them you fight a clone of the player that died, thats something Ive always wanted to see in games, an NPC version of yourself slamming other players.

How do I fix?
This game seems awesome, but it might not be for me. I love the Ninja Gaiden and Souls games, but something about this one feels hard in a non rewarding way. Enemies do way too much damage and the controls are really awkward. The stamina system is a bit retarded too.

I can see what they are going for, but nothing in the demo actually makes me want to keep playing it, unlike Ninja Gaiden and the Souls games where it gives me a drive to want to improve myself.
I'm also not a fan of the skill system and the shortcut system is complete trash. You have useful items, including your means of healing, such as repairing your shit but you also have the ninja tools like kunai and the fucking spells too, all in three slots. Considering any sane man will want to have the heal equipped at all times, you only have two slots for a fuck huge pool of things.
And tying so many skills to weapons and their stances just feels like it punishes you for not knowing exactly what weapon you'll favor and what stance you'll use the most. I tried making use of the spear and it feels like shit especially when people just poise right through my blows. Now I'm stick with a spear where I invested a shit ton into already.
Had it not been a demo I would have made a new playthrough already.

I'm sick of ninja shit. I wanted a good samurai game that was either realistic or had oni and yokai and featured in a grotesque feudal Japan. I always hoped the Souls games would eventually have one that took place in the East since every fucking Souls game mentions the East, but it never happened.

All the ones I've fought from so far have been okay, but I had to adjust to what stance they were in, you could kinda tell the bullshit they were going to do, and they didn't adjust well to me not targeting them and using long distance pokes after a turn-around. I will say that I'm terrible at parrying them in comparison to the other enemies.

Stick with mid stance for now, axe/hammer and spear are good for crowds, i use katana for one vs one. Don't spam attack and dodge, take oyur time, hit enemies a few times and get stamina back. Also press R1 after a combo at the time when the particles almost hit your body to regain stamina, you can test it out by just doing a combo and looking at the staminda bar when the rad bar fills up again press at any time and you will regain that much stamina

Enemies die in a few hits. The thing is that so do you. Enemy HP doesn't seem to be an issue though.
I'm greatly enjoying the demo, but I do have a few complaints:
-Not-Geralt's movement has no sensation of weight to it. In Ninja Gaiden and even Dark Souls there's a sense of momentum to the basic movement that's lacking in this. I will say though that I love the way weapon impact feels in this. Reminds me a lot of Ninja Gaiden, which is always a good thing.
-I hate how the character turns away from enemies when you are locked-on to them. It makes dodging less important because you can just run backward whenever an enemy attacks. It also fucks up times when you want to dodge and he dodges into the wrong direction. They should have your character backstep, and only turn if you are holding the sprint button.
-The combat doesn't handle enemy mobs well at all. It's fantastic for 1v1 combat but as soon as a second enemy aggros on you are fucked. The game has the rocks that let you aggro only one enemy at a time, but it kills the flow of the game to have to stop and chuck rocks at every enemy that is in a group (of which there are quite a few). They need to either make it so mob control is easier or, preferably, alter enemy placement so that there are fewer enemies in groups. I'd much prefer more of the stronger single enemies rather than a handful of weaker mobs. The combat just doesn't work well with them.

You start backstepping if you only hold the stick lightly, which I think is what you're meant to do.

The stamina/ki bar almost seems a little laggy to me. Like it's a second or two behind the action. Learn to press R1 when the bar is recharging at the end of combos though. It helps.

Honestly for the first area of the game everything does too much damage, even with heavy armor on I still die in 3 hits. Its a bit silly when the enemies themselves are fairly dangerous, no real need to make them do 60% of your HP a hit.

I honestly don't blame him, its very rough around the edges. The concept is great, but simple things like how the lock on functions and stamina values really bog the game down. I am certainly entertained right now, but it certainly is an alpha.
