No. You press the "summon a visitor" button at the shrines and then someone just joins your game. If you want to join other people's games you press the coop button at the mission select screen and then it randomly picks someone who's looking for a coop partner.

The high stance delivers powerful attacks that are good for guard breaks, but consumes lots of stamina, whereas the low one is quick short attacks that don't do much damage, but don't consume much stamina, with the middle one behind somewhere in between.
Each weapon-type has its own 3 stances, and moves for each stance are purchasable from the skill store to make your own custom combos, so you can spend quite a while fiddling around with what's best for you. Like the sneaking theaters in MGS 2 and 3, each technique has a little clip showing you how the technique works.

pushing enemies towards ledges has a huge payoff.
They go into a arm flailing animation so you can get an extra hit, they take extra fall damage from landing on their face and you can finish them off with a drop attack after they've fallen.

I'm amazed that more people don't remember it when it was revealed originally, since a game being based off an unfinished Kurosawa script was a pretty big deal (Although sadly it didn't come to fruition in the end).
This game plays nothing like souls, but it does takes thing from Souls and some of those things are shit and I don't appreciate it like:
1- no pause! fuck that
2- no check points and manual save!!

They're basically the game's equivalent of bloodstains. Touching one of those will summon a revenant of the player that died there, and killing them will make them drop some of the gear that the player died in.

Can anybody explain to me how stamina recovery works? I get that when you change your stance at the right time, that you recover the "white" stamina, but sometimes it also works on dodge. However, I can't figure out the timing for that.

I just beat the second boss with an increased health due to a useless summon. After dying a few times to it beforehand and doing it almost perfectly then, I can safely say that this combat is seriously great. Everything can be avoided, as it should be. I think this might be one of the better games of the year. I'm worried about the length though. On the map it says Kyushu region so I hope that it will change regions. I'd like to see some Hokkaido snow stuff. I'd love to see a large city as well.

It's a really weird combination of Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls that and I don't think it does either really well, although I liked it enough to play it for 12 hours and beat both bosses.
Also, maybe I missed something about how the combat works but I don't know why you would use low stance ever when switching between mid and high is all you need to get through the game.

There's a few ways around this, you can start a free PS+ trial if you haven't done it before on your account, or you can make a new German account on PC, log into it on your PS4 and start the 2-day free PS+ trial and activate that account as your primary. After you do that you have PS plus for all accounts on your PS4, so just log into your main account and download the demo.

I don't think you can get those cutscene impaling on them but you can stun them with attacks when their stamina is flashing red so you can wail on them until they're able to do the recharge move.

Square and triangle are light and heavy, respectively. Dodging/rolling and sprinting work like in Souls, but that's all mapped to X as opposed to circle. R1 in combination with the face buttons controls your stance (Basically your moveset). R3 is lock-on, as with Souls.

Combat is methodical, it has depth and its satisfying. The game is quite difficult. The level design is on point. The stat and skill building system is very solid. On-screen HUD needs some resizing. Character model and fashion looks great. Decent weapon variety. Nice levels of graphical fidelity, it's no Bloodborne but it gets a pass easily.
My only real complaints is on-screen HUD needs optimization and weapon degradation is a little too fast.
I thought the dlc was basically going to be a give away, but I like that they're really making you earn it.

Dodge under his arms, get a couple hits in his back, back off and wait for the spin move.
Also get in kicks or other stamina draining moves if you can, once his stamina is flashing you can stun lock him for a while. He gets a lot less annoying when you break the chains in phase 2.

Everytime you die you gotta fight through all the enemies to get to him again then you gotta fight the boss where half of it's attacks are one shot kills.
